Score from 45 reviews Very good
The location was great. Within walking distance to all the great restraunts. Rooms were very clean. The hotel as a great continental breakfast and sitting area on the roof top with a gorgeous of la jolla beach. The front desk was also great at providing good restraunt recommendations.
There is no air conditioning just a small fan. If your going in the summer be prepared to toss and turn through the night from the heat. You must leave the window open because you need air flow and may wake up from the smell of the seal in the air. The queen bed rooms are more like a full size mattress. It's worth it to upgrade.
most rooms without AC
excelant staff and Wi Fi
barkfast not that value
I like the staff in the reception, they were helpful and respectful. I like the breakfast. I like the location as the cove and snorkeling area are just across the street. Plenty of space in the suite.
I did not like our stay on our first day, the room was so hot as there was no air conditioner. I have never seen a hotel suite without air conditioner. Besides it is small, there are cab webs in the bathroom. The suite has old fixtures.
Spacious room. Great view. Staff very helpful.
Kitchen was only minimally equipped.
The fact that we were opposite the beach and had an ocean view.
Place needed updating. Felt like it was basic accommodation, and felt old.
Great view of the ocean from the balcony.
Poor ventilation, exhaust fan was only on a few hours each day. You can hear everyone's door opening and closing. No air conditioning in the room, gets very warm during the day and wil not cool off at night. Exhaust ventilation grates were dirty, one in the bathroom was falling off and full of mold and dust. I will not go back. Bathroom is very small.
This hotel is not upscale. That is fine. It is affordable. I've stayed in the suites which are good for families.
My room, a basic queen, seems to have been chopped out of a suite. There is no ventilation. You have a fan. In the winter there is a space heater. I'm only getting one of these rooms in a pinch again.
Elevators need updatind
I loved the location, the room, roof and continental breakfast.
I like the location.
friendly staff roof top breakfast location
very limited parking outdated rooms no a/c
Excellent room comfort Pool spa
This hotel was fabulous. The building is circa 1970's but the interior of the room was clean and new. King size bed, flat screen TV, dorm size fridge, full microwave, dishes, etc, balcony overlooking the park/ocean. Beautiful view, great simple free breakfast on the rooftop, centrally located. You could walk to everywhere in La Jolla. Staff friendly and very knowledgeable of the area. Cannot beat the location for the price. Would definitely stay there again.
Bathroom on the small size.
The view. Location was unbeatable.
Rooms were a little dated but otherwise comfortable.
Terrible rooms- Dirty, outdated & not worth $50 a night!!!
What a location..can not be beat
Little too much noise for sleeping
The balcony and the view.
The bathroom was very small. The balcony should have some kind of divider between decks as it would be easy to climb from one deck to the adjacent decks.
Great beach view; comfortable room; reasonably priced for being a beachfront property.
There seemed to be a convention of folks from the Middle East who constantly yelled and screamed as they passed through the parking garages and common areas.
Amazing views, and very spacious. We had a one bedroom suite overlooking the Ocean, I would highly recommend this, there were 6 in our party. Pool and hot tub were great as we're the 3 BBQ available to use (Gas powered). We also used the boogie boards that were available to loan for free!! Jennifer was the best person in any of the 6 hotels we stayed in.
Cooling utensils were provided once requested from the front desk The cleaning staff were always very pleasant and helpful The scenic view from the balcony is incredible!!! Well located within walking distance to many restaurants and interesting shops
Noisy construction was going on across the street and started at 7am The carpeting edges were tattered The main door into the suite appeared to be ajar because it didn't close without having to slam it to ensure it was secure The television in the bedroom was vastly older than the flat screen in the living room area.
The view from our balcony The facilities in the apartment The swimming pool Convenient secure parking although it costs $20 per night Free breakfast with plenty of choice and 24 hours coffee machine (free) in reception Proximity to plenty of eating places and shops
The sofa bed but they gave us a rollaway bed instead which was better but not wonderful The noise from the seals can be offputting but when all windows and doors to balcony closed, you hardly hear them The smell from the seabird guano depending on wind direction is not nice
Location is perfect! Girlfriend and I took a short walk to Karl Strauss for dinner and the Coffee Cup for an amazing Breakfast!! We loved the view and the staff were amazing and super polite! We'll be back!
Bathrooms were a little small but what can you do. I'm not there to sit in the bathroom the entire time. The room itself was very clean and very comfortable.
Best location in La Jolla, phenomenal ocean and coast line view, exceptional front desk staff (very friendly and attentive, I had a flat tire and they had it changed momentarily). Free breakfast on the roof deck was fine although a bit too carb intensive in my taste. For my small tip to cleaning staff I got a hand written thank you note daily.
I have stayed 3 times here this year. The interior in the room I got last time felt my age. Clean but completely run down. They need to renovate. And, get some good coffee. This could be easier and faster than renovation.
View was fantastic and room was updated. We had a built in a/c unit in our room that kept my husband happy...the room would get so cold we had to turn the temp up at times, which was very refreshing considering the heat wave outside. Continental breakfast was nice with the usual offerings but the view from the terrace where they serve the complimentary breakfast was the best of any hotel I've ever stayed in. The location is also fantastic for strolling up to the village and having meals. We ate at some wonderful restaurants. The pool and hot tub were both quite large and it was great that we could swim with our little ones at one end and older kids still had plenty of room to play around without splashing us. We had a fantastic two night stay.
The only complaint I had with the hotel itself is that the draperies in the room were almost insufficient for covering the windows. I had to do a lot of creative manipulating of the panels to keep it dark so our young children would stay asleep after dawn. A couple of other things to be aware of...the ocean front rooms have amazing views but are also right upon a pretty busy street. People can't drive fast on this street so it's not like being near a freeway, but all day long there's lots of cars coming and going in and out of the few parking spaces that are there for beach-goers. I found the terrace on the top floor to be large enough that you could sit and look at the ocean and not see the street chaos or hear the traffic noise as much as on our balcony. Also, beware if you sit outside at the continental breakfast to never leave your food unattended...I saw a few people loose their belgian waffles to packs of seagulls and pigeons that swoop in en masse.
