Very cute guest house in a wonderful area of Manhattan! If you want a place that's not too touristy but still close enough to the main tourist attractions, La maison d'art is the place to be. Harlem is definitely worth visiting!
Area is interesting in a positive sense Close to Subway Nice staff Good Soulfood nearby very Close to Central Park vibe
It was a very cosy place, nicely done up. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Great place to stay to experience life in Harlem. Felt really welcomed into the community. Lovely B&B, staff very nice and there to help with anything you needed. Room lovely and bed extremely comfortable. Close to Subway and convenience stores.
We have got wonderful help with everything we needed. The hotel and the room very cosy, we had a home feeling. Thank you Sophie!
Friendly and welcoming staff, close proximity to various bus/metro lines, good amenities (fast wireless, cable TV, free calls to Europe, small but well-equipped kitchen, free coffee, etc.), garden.
I did not notice any shortcomings.
Liked the decor. Lots of art which made surroundings bright and interesting. Staff especially Sofie very helpful and friendly. Very comfy beds.
A very friendly welcome, every thing explained but not easy to take in when you have struggled to get there from the airport etc. So the next day it was start from the beginning and we couldn't find anyone to ask. There were not instructions in a book to read. The room was great and having the kitchen a bonus. Good walking distance to the underground transport, and grocer shop over the road.
The stairs, you need to ask how are we on stairs, at the end of the day they were a struggle for pensioners to climb. The area was a little daunting at the time, after we said was a privilege to be in that part of town and experience another culture. Going out at night was not an option for us. Were surprised to find a large deposit paid at booking.
Design of room/suite Comfortable bed Facilities for making breakfast Whirlpool bath Sophie and eveyone else who looked after us
Vector, the intern, is nice n cute. its more like a b&b apartment. kitchin stuff are good. free call to many countries.
saw more Black people around d place...
We liked the interior of the house and room. As this is a guesthouse, you can get contact as much or as less as you want. Everything you want is there and otherwise just ask.
The area took some getting used to and we found it quite dirty. But safe.
Our spacious room was very quiet and faced the garden. The staff were friendly and helpful. We loved the fact that we were not in a big anonymous hotel. Our friends concern about the neighbourhood were unjustified.
The immediate neighbourhood looks a little scruffy. The safe was not mounted to the wall which rendered it pretty useless if there had been a theft.
Wonderful room and service. Amazing Baptist Church practically next door. Also no problem leaving our bags until dinner time after check out.
Being 4 women, a 10 minute walk from the subway at night coming home from the theater made my daughters nervous. But a $17 taxi ride solved that. Had to park in a lot a block away at a cost of $36.
What immediately attracted my husband and me to this guest house was its location in a nice neigbhorhood in Harlem. The home was convenient to a multitude of restaurants, shops, and the train. The decor was tastefully done, the room and bathroom was spotless, and the bed was comfortable. The hosts were very gracious and my three year old journeyed down the steps daily to greet them in their office. I would stay here again and would also recommend this place to others.
No creamer for the coffee.
I loved everything Sophie was an amazing hostess clean facilities wonderful staff top quality customer service I loved everything and will definitely stay again!
Nothing to hate or dislike about this wonderful spot in Harlem
Amazingly comfortable bed! Sophie was so helpful when we arrived. Very nicely decorated with everything you need. Lovely quiet street. Would definitely recommend to those looking to stay in Harlem.
Sophie was extremely warm and welcoming. The room, a Master Suite, had ample space for our young family and the compact kitchen area was helpful. We all enjoyed the jacuzzi tub as well!
The owner and staff in this guesthouse were very accomodating, and all our questions were answered promptly by e-mail in advance. The master suite was ok for four people - no privacy though, maybe better for 2 persons. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. Little kitchenette in the corner had all the things we needed, like fridge, coffeemaker & microwave. Bathroom clean and quite spacious. AC worked fine. Very good Wi-fi! All in all, we really enjoyed our stay and would go back in a heartbeat!
The only thing worth mentioning is the location of the guesthouse. The street is quiet, but the nearby bigger streets were a bit restless in late evenings. I would be very cautious about walking alone in the evening.
The way we where treated by owner and there attention to all
great service, very, very quiet, fine accommodations, very comfortable, very accommodating policies and staff, great value.
We got an amazing welcome and all the information we could possibly need from our host Sophie. She was very accommodating and although we didn't require anything further during our stay it was clear that nothing would have been too much trouble for her at all. The room was clean and well equipped. The bed was superb, so comfortable. Wi-Fi was great and free phone calls an added bonus. Merci beaucoup La Maison d'Art.
The staff were really friendly and loved that it was in an art gallery. Made it more unique! The location allowed us to go to an area we wouldn't usually.
When we arrived in the middle of the night we was welcommed by a lovely girl. She show us everyting and even if it was late she took her time to let us know about the buses/subways and everyting we asked about. Next day we met Sofhie and Stephanie. Stephanie is the owner and a wonderful kindly woman. To live at the hotel could not be better. Friendly, clean-yes everthing perfect. A fantastic art exhibition by Al J in the gallery. It was the best start we could have in NYC. We will come back to this wonderful place. Tack you Stephanie and Sofhie. Tommy Kloefver from Sweden.
This is a charming, welcoming place with really nice hosts/staff that I can warmly recommend. Travel to downtown NY with a walk to the subway stop takes about 30 minutes. One food store is down the street and there are restaurants in the area.
Very friendly, hospitable staff. Comfortable accommodation. Fairly close to subway. Quiet street. I'd definitely take my family there.
