Our spacious room was very quiet and faced the garden. The staff were friendly and helpful. We loved the fact that we were not in a big anonymous hotel. Our friends concern about the neighbourhood were unjustified.
The immediate neighbourhood looks a little scruffy. The safe was not mounted to the wall which rendered it pretty useless if there had been a theft.
Wonderful room and service. Amazing Baptist Church practically next door. Also no problem leaving our bags until dinner time after check out.
Being 4 women, a 10 minute walk from the subway at night coming home from the theater made my daughters nervous. But a $17 taxi ride solved that. Had to park in a lot a block away at a cost of $36.
What immediately attracted my husband and me to this guest house was its location in a nice neigbhorhood in Harlem. The home was convenient to a multitude of restaurants, shops, and the train. The decor was tastefully done, the room and bathroom was spotless, and the bed was comfortable. The hosts were very gracious and my three year old journeyed down the steps daily to greet them in their office. I would stay here again and would also recommend this place to others.
No creamer for the coffee.
I loved everything Sophie was an amazing hostess clean facilities wonderful staff top quality customer service I loved everything and will definitely stay again!
Nothing to hate or dislike about this wonderful spot in Harlem
Amazingly comfortable bed! Sophie was so helpful when we arrived. Very nicely decorated with everything you need. Lovely quiet street. Would definitely recommend to those looking to stay in Harlem.
Sophie was extremely warm and welcoming. The room, a Master Suite, had ample space for our young family and the compact kitchen area was helpful. We all enjoyed the jacuzzi tub as well!
The owner and staff in this guesthouse were very accomodating, and all our questions were answered promptly by e-mail in advance. The master suite was ok for four people - no privacy though, maybe better for 2 persons. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. Little kitchenette in the corner had all the things we needed, like fridge, coffeemaker & microwave. Bathroom clean and quite spacious. AC worked fine. Very good Wi-fi! All in all, we really enjoyed our stay and would go back in a heartbeat!
The only thing worth mentioning is the location of the guesthouse. The street is quiet, but the nearby bigger streets were a bit restless in late evenings. I would be very cautious about walking alone in the evening.
The way we where treated by owner and there attention to all
great service, very, very quiet, fine accommodations, very comfortable, very accommodating policies and staff, great value.
We got an amazing welcome and all the information we could possibly need from our host Sophie. She was very accommodating and although we didn't require anything further during our stay it was clear that nothing would have been too much trouble for her at all. The room was clean and well equipped. The bed was superb, so comfortable. Wi-Fi was great and free phone calls an added bonus. Merci beaucoup La Maison d'Art.
The staff were really friendly and loved that it was in an art gallery. Made it more unique! The location allowed us to go to an area we wouldn't usually.
When we arrived in the middle of the night we was welcommed by a lovely girl. She show us everyting and even if it was late she took her time to let us know about the buses/subways and everyting we asked about. Next day we met Sofhie and Stephanie. Stephanie is the owner and a wonderful kindly woman. To live at the hotel could not be better. Friendly, clean-yes everthing perfect. A fantastic art exhibition by Al J in the gallery. It was the best start we could have in NYC. We will come back to this wonderful place. Tack you Stephanie and Sofhie. Tommy Kloefver from Sweden.
This is a charming, welcoming place with really nice hosts/staff that I can warmly recommend. Travel to downtown NY with a walk to the subway stop takes about 30 minutes. One food store is down the street and there are restaurants in the area.
Very friendly, hospitable staff. Comfortable accommodation. Fairly close to subway. Quiet street. I'd definitely take my family there.
We stayed in the top floor family suite, it was very spacious and full of characters. Stuff were excellent. Will stay there again for sure.
This was a fabulous place to stay! We had such a wonderful time here. Harlem was so friendly and full of awesome vibes-lots of people stopping to chat and wish us happy holidays. Sophie could not not have been more helpful or friendly. She really made our stay! It's easy to get in and out of the centre of the city and it's so safe with lots of fab places to eat. Felt like we were at home! The apartment is amazing with art work every where you turn. We would stay here if and when we return to New York. Thank you Sophie you were amazing!
We have nothing negative to say
I don't like this hotel location at all. This area very dirty and hotel don't clean room when I was stay there Hotel even charged $40 for clean fee when I arrived But for whole 6 nights stay they didn't clean my room Very disappoint with this hotel Would def not go back to stay that hotel again
The personal attention and the room are perfect. Near access to the subway make it very easy to move around Manathan.
simply amazing !! flawless !!
We stayed here for 9 nights in the Victoria Room. The room is small but quirky and cosy with a lovely en suite bathroom. The staff are very friendly and were always willing to help us from printing out tickets for us to giving us a fantastic overview of the area and NYC when we arrived. We didn't want to leave! I highly recommend this place to others. We felt safe walking around Harlem even when we returned late in the evening. La Maison d' Art really does feel like you are staying in "real" New York rather than just a hotel.
I wouldn't say this is something I didn't like as this didn't really bother us but as the Victoria room is small be prepared to live out of your suitcase as there is limited hanging/closet space. The subway station is about a 10 min walk away and then it takes about 10 mins on the subway to get to midtown which was fine for us but some may want to consider this if they want to be closer to the centre of everything.
Personel is perfect. Room is well designed and comfortable. It is not far from metro station. Wifi was very fast. Bathroom was very well designed and very comfortable. There is a safe case at the room.
1-Location is a litle bit far from city center. 2-Refregirator at the room was very noisy. 3-Room air condition must be fixed. (Heating problem)
Hosts were lovely and very helpful with local information, transport, etc, though still had privacy. Kitchenette facility and ensuite very convenient. Bed was amazing. Courtyard out the back downstairs - nice if you want some downtime. Pleasant walk (approx. 5-10 min) to restaurants, shops, subway station, etc. It was also a very unique location in Harlem - despite being nervous initially as a single woman travelling solo, I soon felt at ease (even when walking at night). A great option to visit NYC without the huge price tag.
Needed a bottle opener and some body wash or basic small toiletries which would have been helpful. There is no lift; only stairs - if you have light luggage or don't mind the exertion, it's fine.
Very nice rooms, personal touches, engaging staff
Sophie is sooo nice and helpful. Very cosy hotel, downstairs is their gallery.
Bed is a bit way too soft...not good for spine though,..
Sophie, Stefanie and ? were very friendly and helpfull. Rooms were beautifully designed, love it! Perfect for people who want to explore the city. Subway is nearby, friendly neigbourhood. We first had our doubts with Harlem but as the taxidriver told us this was 'good Harlem'
Nothing, maybe we mist a closet or a place to put your clothes and luggage. We had the Victorian room and noticed that the other rooms were taller.
