Liked our location of our room, the history of the place and enjoyed the music playing all night.
Cute hotel, nice pool, good restaurant, very accommodating staff
Bathroom has window but not a fan, had to carry luggage up 1/2 flight of stairs
Great value - especially the off-season prices, not a chain hotel, great history/special/unique, full-length pool, good restaurant/bar, convenient to airport, comfortable beds, spacious rooms, quiet inner rooms, quiet a-c, free parking, free morning coffee in the lobby.
Rooms facing El Cajon St. constantly have loud street noise - when the windows are closed it sounds like they're open. In-season there is often late-night pool or party noise (so it's best to get an inner room).
The lobby was okay.
Our room was literally 88 degrees when we walked in. The furniture and duvet was really old, not retro, old and dingy. The carpet was so dirty that we couldn't allow our 8 month old to touch it and so we cut our four night stay to one night to avoid the $100 penalty fee. The hotel is gross. Do not stay here if you want a clean experience.
We loved the location and the hotel is beautiful!
We were in the bungalows and the 2nd night a young family checked in next to us and we literally thought they were in our room. Walls are a little thin...
HD cable was out- or not working properly. Blurry tv
Location is perfect and the staff are always going above and beyond to make surr your stay is an amazing one!
Pool was great. Crowded due to non guests using the pool, but ok. The staff was awesome
The patio leading to the pool. People kept taking our table and chairs from our patio for their use.
The service, the staff, the facility. A unique place to stay with lots of history... very charming.
Bathroom needed some fixing up... the tub was not draining well, and the glass shelf above the sink was loose. We mentioned these to the staff and they said that they'd fix them.
the hotel atmosphere, the location, the restaurants near by
The Lafayette staff went out of their way to make our stay a cherished and memorable experience that we will relive every year at the Lafayette hotel
the party atmosphere at the pool
Nice place to stay
The staff was greater
We had a family room with 2 beds (seperate rooms). The rooms were large and it had a round table, a microwave, a coffee machine and a small fridge as well as two seperate air cons. The employees at the front desk were friendly and competent. Public transport (bus Station) is nearby. Free Internet available in enterence hall.
Hotel is located not so central. It takes about 15 Min. by car to go downtown (Harbor).
We, our wedding party, and guests stayed at the Lafayette. We were delighted in all aspects of the stay - the staff (particularly Aimee, MeMe, and Steve) was outstanding in meeting our needs and checking in our family (even upgrading two rooms for our adult children!). The history and ambiance of the hotel was delightful. We even used the lobby as the backdrop for some of our photos. We will definitely stay at the Lafayette again when in SD.
This was such a fun, unique place. Loved our little balcony overlooking the pool, the swing/jazz music, super friendly staff, and neighborhood location.
The room was clean and well maintained of an adequate size and we were situated in a quiet corner on the second floor. The location was within three blocks of our main destination, the North Park Vaudeville and Candy Shoppe. Everything else was an easy cab ride away.
There was no chair in the room that I was able to sit in comfortably. The one chair leaned back and you couldn't sit up straight. I cannot be comfortable sitting up in bed so when possible I went to the lobby to sit. When we went down for drinks there were no chips or peanuts to nibble with the drink.
Helpful staff, good location, love the two restaurants, clean remodeled rooms.

nice swimming pool and the hotel is close to many restaurants
no complementary water , parking not free
-Easy to find -Wonderful staff who go beyond the call....with a smile. Thank you Megan! -Retro style- if Dean Martin or Bob Hope or Jimmy Dean walked in while I was lazing by the pool, I mightn't have even flinched! - the pool -the retro music by the pool - the pool :) - the poolside room I had - comfortable beds - the food- great variety with some (wait for it) healthier options
The only downside was the lack of ventilation in my room. There's only the front door and door to the pool and one unprotected window. Made it hard to sleep the first night I was there but then I just kept the air con on the remaining nights and it became much better.
No microwave or refrigerator
Room was spacious and comfortable. Cleaning staff were friendly and accommodating. We requested a small refrigerator and it was brought to the room promptly. Area is close to bars, restaurants and a short trip to the beach. Will definitely stay again!
We had requested a balcony poolside room when booking the reservation far in advance but were given a ground floor room. Since it was poolside, we still had a great time-just not what I booked.
Value for money Close to attractions I want to visit
Garage door can easily hit car Difficult to locate initially especially the parking area
Super friendly helpful staff. The Art Deco persona of the Lafayette is genuine not contrived. The pool and surroundings are clean and well maintained. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. I will always look to stay at the Lafayette with my next visit to San Diego.
There is a certain amount of road noise that comes from El Cajon Blvd. especially with emergency vehicles. To be expected along a major route.
The pool and location was excellent
We had 3 problems within the first night of stay. 1. Given a room which smelled like urine as the ac unit was directly by the outside stairs. 2. On Thursday night's thy hotel has an Improv show and its very noisy. 3. Guest in other rooms were slamming doors, super noisy at 2 am until 3:30 am, didn't rest much afte a long day at zoo with kids...
