The room was totally re-done with bare floors and tiles. The bed was very comfortable and everything was super clean. The room heat/AC unit was loud, but we just turned it off. The staff was super nice and they told us they were re-doing the whole building. They haven't gotten to the outside yet or the hall carpets, but the newly done room met our needs and smelled clean and fresh. This owner is trying to improve things and doing a great job so far. It was also very quiet at night even though the place was full.

It was an old hotel with a lot of the original woodwork etc. Very cool. Slightly modernized-WiFi, USB, door lock-that was helpful. Room was clean and beds comfortable. It had a very good and simple continental breakfast- fruit, yogurt(excellent), muffins. Good location in downtown Brandon. Walking distance to a breakfast spot(eggs, pancakes, etc) and a good pub. Also nearby was a supermarket and drugstore. I could easily stay here a few days to explore the area. Also close to to Middlebury, Killington, Rutland, state parks, hiking. We enjoyed our stay.

The daytime gentleman at the front desk of the property was very helpful and very friendly. He answered my questions on the telephone before my arrival and patiently offered his assistance during the check-in procedure. He explained the $150 deposit and assured me that it would be "released" by Thursday of the next week following the weekend stay. This has not transpired yet (as this review was requested on Monday), and I am going on faith that this promise will be kept. I left the property in immaculate condition and provided the staff with a reasonable tip in the provided envelope in the room. Crossing my fingers that the required deposit in addition to the accommodation fee will be released and that my card will not be charged in addition to the prepaid room fee. The people in the main office were also very accommodating - returning an email and a telephone call prior to the stay.

Lovely rural area with some interesting history, but ruined by our lousy accommodations that were outrageously priced for the value -- and by a Vermont highway patrolman who gave us a $144 ticket, claiming we were doing 65 mph in a 50 mph zone in our Canadian licensed SUV, which was completely fabricated.
