Hotel Lanai  

Beautifully kept, older hotel with wood floors, solid wood furniture, large ceiling fans, huge windows, beautiful Hawaiian bedspreads and modern, clean bathroom; lovely, well furnished lobby, excellent gourmet restaurant, good breakfast included, friendly and helpful staff, great service, lushly landscaped grounds

Didn't bother us, but some people might not like the lack of a TV, phone, pool, or similar hotel amenities

This is a great little hotel, with a great mix of the old with the new. The building takes you back into a past era, but there are all the modern comforts you need. When on duty, the staff could not have been more helpful. Extras like the ability to borrow beach equipment including snorkelling gear make that extra difference. We ate really well, both at the hotel but also in the range of nearby eateries.

Just beware, on the two nights a week that the hotel restaurant is shut there are no staff around so you can't get ice, coffee... and the village shops and restaurants are mainly shut by eight. Its not a major problem, but you do have to ensure you have what you need before this.

I loved everything about Hotel Lanai, the breakfast was great, the staff was excellent and treated as if we were the only guest (they were booked full) I am going back for sure...

The mattress was completely worn out, sagged very badly and should have been replaced years ago. When I asked about switching to another room (or butting a board under the mattress), my request was ignored.

Quaintness and history and excellent restaurant with friendly, efficient staff.

Another towel rack and shelf in bathroom to put things on.

The staff were absolutely fantastic. Warm, friendly and accommodating. Will definitely be back!

Only that the restaurant isn't open for lunch.

Given there aren't many resorts on Lana'i (only 4), three being in Lana'i city, and this being our first trip... It did well to provide handiness to everything. The best part about staying here was Sarah for a) organizing all our days for us - rental jeep, golf, tour etc; b) being so efficient as well as friendly and c) with a smile!

Nothing.... However, this isn't for everyone. The walls are thin given the age of the building. I had been unwell and couldn't stop coughing one night ... We were in room 8. Room 6 which shares a wall with us had a person staying who was either a light sleeper or something else was mimicking my cough...

Very helpful staff. Also, the building and rooms are "quaint."

The room was very quaint and reminded me of old Hawaii

Other than the rude man manager, we did not like the fact there was no coffee, tea making in the room. The staff left early so you could not get a cuppa after 5pm. We only got 1 tiny bottle of shampoo and 1 cake of soap supplied. The breakfast supplied was poor and had many faults about it. The hotel and the room had wooden floorboards so you could hear everything everyone said in the hotel and beyond. It was noisey from 6am. Our room window opened out to the foyer of the verandah and was in full view of other people. Awful, and we would never stay there again. It was very expensive but being on Lanai it was the cheapest form of accomodation available under $300 a night.

Relax and unwind with no connection to city life

Bart at the front desk was very personable and helpful. The Hotel Lanai was exactly what we hoped it would be.

Extremely friendly and helpful staff; very relaxed atmosphere; quiet; clean; old-time Hawaii atmosphere.

Bed was way too soft for a bad back; no one informed us that the Lanai Grill wasn't open on the night we were there. I was looking forward to dinner there! I am not recommending Lanai City to other travellers because I am a HI resident and want it to stay the way it is...no more resorts! But for those who want Hawaii flavor without the hype, Hotel Lanai is perfect.

Excellent quiet get away for someone who has few needs and just wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of a commercial tourist venue.

Sometimes evenings were noisy with guests from the restaurant especially with rowdy kids playing in the front of the hotel while they were waiting for the shuttle.
