The house and the rooms are very nice. Personnel and atmosphere was very friendly, familiar and attentive.
WLAN quit slow. Not easy to find.
Outstanding breakfast in a peaceful and wonderful location
irene was a wonderful!! It was our first stay in Hawaii. We stayed at the lava tree for 10 days and traveled around the island. Breakfasts were great! She helped us by pointing us in the right direction for "must dos". It was great meeting people passing through the B&B and talking with them over breakfast about things they have done or seen. The island is full of hidden treasures, many not on a map so word of mouth is the only way to get to see them.
the short dirt road to the B&B is tough and could use some work after the storms washed some of the road away. But if you drive slow, it's ok.
The Innkeeper, Irene, was a wonderful host, and provided a series of very nice breakfasts, but they are quite drawn out, so guests need to be on "island time". The quiet of the location and her advice about how to get to various local spots and restaurants as well as offers of snorkeling gear and maps and guides was much appreciated. For us the late conversations (after breakfast and evenings) were great.
The flip side of being isolated is that it is not close to the sites you may want to see, so substantial driving is required for everything, and the approach road to the guest house is very rugged. Some guests brought small children, which does not really work well at this guest house. Having a set time for all to have breakfast together may not fit some guests, but we enjoyed it.
nature's nightly concert!
It is like a muséum not good for kids .
The Lava Tree Inn is arranged to make you feel at home, with the owner making every effort to make your stay comfortable. Breakfasts are a delight, with home made yoghurt, fresh eggs from the free range hens, fresh warm bread and a selection of fruits. One of the best B&B we have stayed in.
No bad experiences.
Loved the cats, chickens and frogs. Was a beautiful place to stay and I have no complaints. Irene is lovely and food was great.
Marvelous host and comfortable accommodation
Terrible access road and incorrect location on Garmin GPS made getting there unpleasant. Be sure to use directions on Booking.com or follow GPS to Lava Tree State Park
The house is very comfortable and clean, the owner is very hospitable and caring. In the morning were very tasty breakfasts, fruit, yogurt, fresh coffee, scrambled eggs. All the conditions for a comfortable stay.
a little bit far from the center of the island
It was very relaxing, and enjoyable.
Irene is a wonderful host and the Inn is just beautiful!
It might be tricky to find it at the first time, especially at night
the breakfast that gives the opportunity to meet the other guests. The location of this B&B is awesome.
This bed and breakfast is ideal to enjoy Puna and explore the South of The Big Island: hot pools, snorkeling (5min away), volcano park, Paho'a, etc. Very cute house with beautiful garden, rooms are clean with full private bathroom. Irene is a great host, she had lots of advices and provided a good breakfast.
Irene is a really nice host and very helpful. Best breakfast ever, all home made. The location is really great and you will feel like Tarzan and Jane :). The Volcano eruption does not impact the location or traffic at all. You must like animals if you stay at Irenes place.
The road to the B&B has been a little bumpy, but you can do it with every car.
The place is in a perfect location if you want to visit the Volcano National park, black sand beach, and you'd like to hike and discover the nature around there. The house is beautiful and Irene is a great host: her breakfasts are memorable!! The atmosphere is real family style, and makes you feel at ease from the very first moment. Great place, we would definitely recommend it.
Beautifully secluded in a tropical park with aimable host Irene; excellent breakfast; Irene really is trying to adapt to her customer's requirements. If you look for a place away from the typical hotel style, this is the place for you !
My one week stay at Lava Tree Tropic Inn couldn't have been more excellent. A beautiful host and an idyllic setup made it easy for me to explore The Big Island while staying in a rain forest paradise. The host was more than helpful with providing me with tips for exploring Hawaiʻi (even snorkeling gear can be borrowed to explore the nearby tide pools of Kapoho). The freshly arranged breakfast each morning definitively was another highlight you probably won't find anywhere else. I would loved to stay at Lava Tree Tropic for any of my future visits!
Felt just like home
Irene, our hostess maintains a beautiful home in a somewhat remote location near Lava Tree Park. It is so peaceful and beautiful. Irene is a very special woman who prepares a wonderful breakfast with fresh fruit and other daily surprises. The coffee is great! The vegetation on the property is plush and there are even chickens roaming around. It is a real oasis!!!
We loved it all. Traveling the distance was well worth it.
The breakfast is amazing and the location of the house is beautiful. I would certainly recommend staying here.
location, nice room
Irene, has an infectious smile; which invites you into her B&B. The Inn is immaculate with quiet breezes and periodic gentle rain drops. I LOVED her desire to accommodate different cultural needs. Her home made bread, jams & breakfast cheese spread are reason to wake up. Lastly, she has varied suggestions to those who want to venture out of the immediate area. So if your family wants to venture off the main highway (2.5miles), I assure you will find a peaceful, welcoming home away from home....
The distance from Hilo is about 20 miles. But ALL the hotels were full & much more expensive. I feel blessed to have been accommodated by Irene since I made last minuet reservations during the Merrie Monarch week.
A beautiful b &b surrounded by a tropical rain forest, Irene is a considerate and talented hostess. Fresh fruit for breakfast, mostly from the surrounding garden, close to Hilo and Pahoa and the local black sand beach.
There is a rooster who makes entirely too much noise too early!
the absolutely quiet location, the cats and of course Irene and her breakfast - we'll go back
well, the mosquitos were a pain but there's little one can do about those...
