The location was pretty easy to get to from Bart Civic Center Seems like even though rooms are available, they wont give your room to you until 3p which is just bad business when you run a hotel. I arrived at 1:30p. Considering checkout is 11a.......

Location Lounge and reception counter not tiddy, need renovation. Elevator outdated and dirty. Non professional staff (not knowledgeable about San Francisco) and management not friendly with unecessary agressive behavior. Rooms too cold: thermostat (if any) set too low by management. Wi-Fi not free contrary to practice in other hotels at similar prices nationwide.

I was able to check in after midnight. Doors were secure so had to ring a bell to get in. Staff escorted us to or room and instructed us on how to use the heaters. Our beds were made up for us upon returning to rooms. Strong curry smell (it makes me nauseous), very outdated building and rooms, breakfast, according to my roommates, consisted of glazed donuts only, many homeless people outside.

This is an old building and has its charm. The place is family owned and one should realize that this means offering them a certain amount of respect if you desire respect. The staff was very nice, the room was clean, and this is a great value for your money. Sharing a bathroom and shower can be awkward. Also, they don't allow you to bring guests to your room.

Location fantastic, friendly, lots of character. Nothing fancy. Not for you if you measure a place by modern amenities. Walking distance to everything, union square, street car, Marc to airport for $8.15, muni to Castro, noe, mission, walk to nob hill . Easy access to lots of restaurants less expensive and pricey.parking garage within half a block. I felt as lone female perfectly safe but 1-2 blocks in wrong direction could be dicey, no reason to goin that direction. I would stay there again. My husband, who joined me later and is used to travel for work and higher priced hotels did not agree with me.

It was walking distance from the conference center (Moscone) I attended. It had a mini fridge and a microwave. If I ever write a novel, the stay at the Layne will provide very good material. The room was dirty and the furniture was very shabby. The web site did not make it clear that the tiny toilet and shower facilities were both in separate rooms down the hall. Worse than a hostel, but slightly better than camping. (I only wished I had brought a sleeping bag.) By far my worst hotel experience.

The room smelt that I had to buy my own deodorizer, the room wasn't vacuumed properly that there was dust in between the bedside table and bed, the blanket had holes worn through as did the towels. Very dated and in need of a refresh including new linen. Staff were friendly but I wouldn't chose to stay there again.

For the event it was close by. For $300 bucks, I feel the quality wasn't matching the price. The location was in a bad area. The worst part was I had to pay an additional $30 dollars for parking. I could have spent another $100 and get a 10x better Hotel that had their own parking and better location. Will never stay there again.

I was so worried abt the hotel because I saw a lot of bad reviews in other websites, but surprisingly the hotel was really ok. The location was great, and considering the location the price was great too. I stayed in a single room with one double bed with shared bathroom. Bathroom was clean, and the room was quite large and it had a fridge, tv, microwave, and a sink so it was very convenient. The bed was pretty bad... It was cheap and old so it didn't really help me get a good night's sleep. And the other facilities were pretty old too.

I am a travel journalist. This is without doubt the worst hotel u have ever stayed in for my seventeen years in the business. The room was smelly dirty.. We felt unsafe despite the lock door policy. Breakfast was poor coffee with packaged Danish. They take 250 dollars from your account and it's gone for four days before being returned as drposit. In a poor area of San Francisco. I will be writing about the experience at the gitel for quite a few publications. Bookin.com do a deservice to their clients by including it on their books.
