For the money, it's perfect! It was a girlfriend shopping and foodie trip. The interior look is updated and modern/very pretty bedding, coffeemaker, nice Philip Roth toiletries, wall TV, all plumbing, bedding great, towels big, lots of pillows to support my preferred sleeping position, parking right outside room. We even pulled in very late after show on a Friday night with no problem parking, although I could see this may change if all rooms were full. Location is the best for multi- night stays because it is right at the start of the Chestnut street shopping on one side, and a few blocks up, the start of the Union street shopping on the other side, both walkable in their entirety from motel. Short drive to Fillmore shopping, and rest of city of course so close and accessible. You are not far from the water and wharf, Golden Gate, Fort mason with its craft fairs, so the feel of SF so present everywhere. We took car everywhere, but I bet public transport is easy from this spot. I thought Lombard would be busy and huge, but it's not! We enjoyed the homey, SF city vibe without the concrete jungle and chain store, vegas-feel of Union Square downtown, a real San Francisco letdown. We were going to stay at a glitzy downtown hotel because prices were discounted....until surprise you find your parking will cost sixty dollars per day! So if you choose other lodging a half mile towards wharf, ask about this you'll get sticker shock and what you thought was a discount disappears. Here, it's free and you come and go as you please. This motel was a real find and surprise for our SF adventure. We actually high-fived each other upon entering the room.
Exterior is really not as bad as photo, and who really cares for a safe, comfy night, you're in San Francisco! We got two queen beds, asked for non smoking room, but when we arrived asked for ground floor room instead of the one we were assigned on second floor. Smelled like a smoking room, of which we should have been warned. But within seconds of course you no longer notice it! I'm being picky, this place is really solid for the price, and I bet the nice lady at front desk would have accommodated in some way if I complained. Full length mirror installed would be a cheap, very useful and much-needed improvement. No ventilation in bathroom to dry out shower overnight. They did install shower shelves, some reviewers complained, so these are owners who do listen to suggestions. There are small things, we didn't come for the lodging, we came for the city.
Location is good only.
The room was smelly, coach was very dirty.
We liked the convenient location, no frills, room was newly remodeled, and towels were clean. The toilettries were surprisingly really nice.
Noise from Lombard St. Noise from other tenants (1st night there were a couple literally screaming SO loud) Parking is limited and space is small
Friendly service, comfortable room. I was in san fran to see the sights not stay at the hotel all day. Internet worked ok.
Door was not flush with floor, had to stuff hand towel to seal it.
This motel is almost completely renovated. Even if is 1 star, I think it will be better than others 2 or 3 stars options... It is simple but clean.
Rooms seemed to be remodeled and were definitely a plus after seeing the outside maintenance.
Outside in very poor repair. Including room numbers written on post its then taped to the doors. Also there was a 2 inch gap under the door big enough for light and or rat or mice or other pests to enter. The blinds were also broken allowing sun to come in. They also started construction at 7am and were cutting wood flooring directly outside my room.
Inside looked nice. A refrigerator and microwave were nice to have in the room.
The cracks around the door allowed for smoke to come in from outside, and noise. It was very noisy, people outside having a good time. We could hear everything the people upstairs were doing. Including moving furniture late at night (I assume this isn't common).
Free parking! Great position for tourists near lots of restaurants in chestnut street and not far from fisherman's warf and golden gate. Also less homeless people in this area than union square and soma.
wi-fi not always working
My wife ended up in the hospital in San Francisco so I needed a room cheap and close to the hospital. This fit the bill and I was surprised how nice the room was for the price.
Parking was cramped and a little hard to get out of. Not a big deal
The front desk girl was rude and not very friendly.
Basic accommodation that met all our needs at a good price. Will stay there again next time we visit San Francisco.
Can be a bit noisy.
We have stayed here on a few occasions and it has always been pleasant. While there were renovations going on for our last stay it certainly was not a problem. The position of this motel is a big plus.
Can be a bit noisy.
the motel was within walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf and easy access to public transportation. It is on a very busy street, but we asked for a rm. in the back and couldn't hear the traffic noise. Free parking was a plus. We will definitely stay there again!
you could hear the guests in the rm. above ours.
Free parking, however with limited space. The rooms were clean and looked like recently renovated. Many restaurants were close by. A bus stop was around the corner.
Nice bathroom fixtures and comfortable beds/bedding. good city location was close to bus transportation.
No continental breakfast, lots of late noise outside our room&noisy neighbors in room next to us, no elevator, difficult parking access.(Two sisters, both senior citizens,)
Everything was brand new and clean
The noise from the busy road and pub next door at the weekend.
Value, Location and Management
Noisy at night, and slow internet speed.
Spotlessly clean.15 minute walk to fishermans wharf and attractions
The beds were comfortable.
The parking lot was tiny. Upon return I had to park in a handicapped spot. We asked to have something mailed back almost a month ago and it hasn't been. They keep saying they'll call back (and they dont) but now they can't find the item left behind. This place isn't AWFUL but it isn't worth more than $60 a night. The rooms are tiny and the front desk gives you the run around.
Very clean and comfortable. The remodeled room was really nice. The staff were very friendly and check-in was quick.
Parking was a little tight, but even though we arrived late there were still spots available.
Excellent location, great value for money. We stayed in a suite which was two adjoining rooms, one king in one, two doubles in another, one bathroom to share. Perfect.
Could use a mirror in the double bedroom. The outside needs work but didn't affect our stay.
Parking was included but the space was extremely tight and I managed to scrape the bumper of a monster truck(that was allowed to park in a parking lot barely capable of accommodating a normal sized car) while having to back out of the entire parking area...no way to turn around and drive out...difficult, since you are backing out onto Lombard.
Parking situation No place to put soap in shower Carpet felt disgusting on bare feet! No tissues Strange odor in room..wet dog smell
rooms beds locations free parking nearby food, drinks
No wi fi, Only one coffee, milk etc. I think there should more option to have more than one drink. The price of $300+ tax is a rip off. I have stay at the Luna motel nearly opposite For half the price and the comfort was far better. The blinds did not work. I would like some form of compensation for a dreadful place to stay
Room was clean and comfortable with flat screen, refrigerator, and microwave. Bathroom was spotless both days with fresh clean towels.
The bathroom was small.
