Score from 306 reviews Excellent
I have given this good rather than excellent only to counter my own enthusiasm at getting an upgrade to a suite. It was delightful but I did not know about the upgrade until I arrived at the room itself. Apparently there had been a wedding function that evening. I arrived late, just after midnight. Not sure why this resulted in the upgrade but I am NOT complaining. I loved the location in hip downtown LA. I loved the old world charm and 1930s belle epoque architecture. Room was wonderful, incredibly comfy bed. Staff very helpful. Sunday brunch was excellent.
Missed opportunity to put me in picture. If you are upgrading somebody tell them.
The location is great for downtown accessibility. The complimentary breakfast is wonderful. The rooms were very comfortable and the Wi-Fi was great.
The club is a private club, so on the weekends the time available for the exercise club is not conducive to getting up and working out before starting your day early.
Very well appointed old world hotel. You know you are in a place full of history around you. Very nice place, but unfortunately not the best area of downtown Los Angeles. It is a one time stay for us, but do not regret it all all, and still will recommend it for the experience.
Fantastic swimming pool.
Noise from weddings etc and the bars being closed for private events.
The room was specious. The breakfast was especially good for the price.
Excellent staff complimented this "step back in time" character hotel. Good central location with easy access to the Metro and an array of restaurants. Great room + complimentary breakfast. Great package!
There was no full length mirror in the room, just a tiny vanity mirror in the bathroom which I thought was odd. Kind of strange to have to haul luggage to and from garage up and down from steps. Everything else was really good!
Staff was friendly Room was clean Bed was cozy Blackout curtains were a good touch
No fitness classes Saturday evening No massages offered on Sunday Breakfast didn't start until 8 so we were unable to eat since we had to be gone for the day much earlier We could hear our neighbors through the adjoining door. I could hear them zipping their suitcases and could even make out their conversation.
-dark rooms design -poor meals choice for breakfast
Traditional ambience, athletic facilities, breakfast
Everything from location to decor was awesome!
Buffet breakfast could use some work
The room and hotel is well styled, comfortable; staff is extremely nice and knowledgeable and it's very fun to explore the different floors. Included breakfast was excellent. Will definitely be back to take advantage of this historic club!
I will say the bathroom was a bit of a let-down considering the rest of the room was styled so well! It was clean and tidy but not as fun as the rest of the room.
Staff was wonderful and helpful. Ernie checked me in, and made my day with his wit: he is charming Complimentary breakfast was good with variety of healthy foods and gracious staff Location worked well in the heart of dowtown
A bit pricey
Everything - great room and one of the best value for money hotel bars we've ever been in. great range of TV channels and superb gym facilities.
We come to LA with low expectations from the city; the great location of the hotel in Downtown was the best in this city. The hotel is amazing designed, with attention to the last detail. We ordered the standard room, but due to our wedding anniversary the very king stuff upgrade our room to a suit, with double room. The bed was big and comfortable. The room was clean and with great view to the downtown. 10 minute walk from the metro, and close to the local super and great restaurants.
The bathroom is great, but little bit Obsolete relative to the high standard of the room. But also very clean.
Everything was beyond expectation!! Food, room, facilities and...downtown!! Room service awesome and all the stuff was more than friendly!! For sure i will visit them again!!
The room, the facilities and the breakfast.
I was not there long enough!
Swimming every morning, club members very friendly and interesting to talk to. Nice quiet bar. Roof top oasis. Matresses high quality, good sleeps. Unlike most other hotels in LA, you can just walk out your front door and spend the whole day in the 'hood.
Need to plan for traffic when you are going out in the car, but that is the usual LA experience
Rooms were spacious Hotel was very elegant and traditional. Found excellent sports coverage channel on bedroom TV which suited my husband, Delicious complimentary breakfast with lots of fresh fruit. Staff very helpful.
Rooms were quite dark. Hotel was an oasis in area which although convenient as base for sightseeing was a little uncomfortable to be in at night.
Nice staff members, good breakfast, spa, swimming pool, sport training sessions and big library. The them of the hotel is sport with old English design woody and stuff. Old hotel but really clean and have maintenance regularly so no worries.
At evening in the athletic club floor you can't wear shorts since it's a club meeting they wanna make it bit classy
Absolutely everything - just a fantastic hotel with fantastic facilities and outstanding staff.
A suite! Really more than we needed for an overnight stay between Amtrak trains. Breakfast was delicious and well done, much variety. The club is full of history and ambiance.
No hot water in shower. Engineer came quickly to check on it, but we already had taken our quick showers. No shuttle service to Amtrak. Took subway to club...not recommended...took taxis back to Amtrak $10..much easier. Remember the $30 hotel tax for LA when booking.
Excellent gym and spa facilities. I also got upgraded to a suite. Good breakfast.
Newly remodeled. Classy interior design, and COMFORTABLE bed. Loved using the exercise bike in our room. Incredible pool. (Workout areas and shops still under remodel.) Beautiful banquet room. Free breakfast with good selections. Very nice staff. In-Out privileges for parking garage (only $20 for parking). Close to Dodger, Lakers/Clippers, music/theater venues. Across the street from Jewelry Marts, close to financial district, garment district and more. Close to freeways. GREAT for sports fans - lots of photos, statues, banners, cool sports memorabilia. Definitely will return.
Location. Downtown L.A. is dirty and needs a concerted effort to clean it up. They're trying to make the redevelopment happen, with a few more LIVE/WORK/PLAY areas, but progress is slow. The hotel is in Central L.A., but dirty streets, empty buildings all around it. This part of L.A. is old and tired - THE HOTEL IS OLD, BUT REFRESHED AND BEAUTIFUL. Don't be afraid when you drive up to the Hotel, because inside, it's lovely. Staff uniforms could be updated to match the new decor, too.
Nobody to help with the luggage from the garage Dark, rather old, no minibar Cleanness not fantastic Lift and some common areas very old The definition of the rooms is only for advertising
