Score from 418 reviews Good
Atmosphere. Close to good food.
Smell in the room
location decoration in the hostel is very original
the staff was always drunk and rude
The View , the other Guests .
They Cancelled my opportunity to extend, Unexpectedly and inconveniently, (due i guess to foul political play on the part of an organized crime syndicate, i perceive).
nice staff every night party three avenues form the bars and clubs away
location staff friendly environment
no air condition - means 86 °F in the room during the night, almost no possible to sleep
The hostel delivers the more important, a good san diego experience due to its location n its spirit with a good staff
Only two showers n toilets by stair, that means, two showers for 20 rooms +. So u got to wait to take shower or wake up early. Room very hot, no aircon neither good fan in my room
Staff, wifi, location
The rooms get very hot in the summer
It is on a good location. The bus stop is right there. The staff is okay no problem. Lock my key inside the locker was taken care of. Will stay at lucky D's again. The provided breakfast everyday. Dinner some days. I do have my organic food but use their milk which was provided every morning to put in my oakmeal or on my cereal.
Can be nosiy some times at night but other than that it is a good place for the price.
Staff and other hotel guests Great location
No place to hang or put your clothes in your private room A little bit dirty Not enough bathrooms per floor
Stuff were friendly. Rooms were very hot barely slept.but atmosphere was great.
Heat small rooms
Plenty of social evens organised by the staff here which would make this ideal for people travelling alone on a budget or looking to meet people. Accomodation similar to university halls. The location is great just a five minute walk to the gaslamp quarter and there is secure parking nearby on market st ($15 for 24hr)
I was satisfied that I got what I paid for with this hostel and I knew what to expect. However if you hate the idea of sharing a shower or bathroom and prefer a quiet nights sleep this is not the place for you.
somewhat wait for restroom
Young people, clean bedclothes, night party, free breakfast, nice place(Middle of downtown)
They didn't checked reserved name when they give a key to me, so I had to move the room. and I stayed private room and that room's air conditional was not working. (it was so hot)
They were really nice, it has a lot of style.Location is good for the comicon a few blocks from distance, meeting peopleand roomate its fun, you will have a lot of fun is you stay there, intertnet speed was fast. People get intrested to help you.
Staff and location were fantastic! The staff was so nice and actually genuinely cared about me and what my needs were. They also enjoyed having conversations with you and making sure you had a great time! The location was a HUGE plus for me. I stayed for Comic Con and Nerd HQ and was only a 7 minute walk away from the Convention Center in one direction and Petco Park in another. It's also super close to a bus stop as well and it's fairly easy to find (just look for The Bootlegger). Also. Free breakfast! Every day!
Noise Level: The Bootlegger is a bar so occasionally they would be playing their music super loud until 2 or 3 in the morning, but the staff was actually super great about getting me earplugs and stuff. Other things I wasn't too thrilled about: only two showers per floor, their cooling system is an overhead fan in each room, and the beds were slightly uncomfortable. However, I stayed in downtown San Diego for $60 a night during COMIC CON. Everywhere else was 2 or 3 times more expensive and way far away so I can deal with an uncomfortable bed and some sweat.
Nice place to stay on comicon days
No air flow in room. It was hot and humid. Had room to myself. Thought if I got really drunk I might have a chance at sleeping but didn't happen. Checked out at 6am to go sleep in my car, it was much more comfortable.
The beds, the room, the bathroom, the people.
+ beds were super comfy +rooms were great sizes and 4 to a room is perfect +bathrooms were generally great, clean, good size + kitchen was great, lots of space, lots of fridge space +extremely good location
- Common Room as a nightclub, it's perfect during the day but at night your options are either going out with everyone or staying in your room. It'd be good if there was a room for people who didn't want to go out. - wifi was pretty bad the whole time I was there, dunno if our room was in a blind spot?
Great location downtown close to everything and anything. Reasonable rates. Feels just like a college dormitiry.
The wifi was horrible and breakfast could be better. Our rooms weren't clean but at least the beds were.
I stayed for the comic con so didn't use many facilities, but the important ones - decent breakfast, clean showers, great location within walking distance of the convention centre, were all in this hostel's favour. Very helpful staff, too
Lockers could be a bit larger - it was hard to fit everything in them. Ceiling fan was too loud
The accessibility to the convention center
The hostile staff and atmosphere was great! It was almost as cozy as being at home. The location was amazingly convenient.
The room was too hot and stuffy at night . To the point it made it hard to get any sleep.
Location was spot on considering we were just staying for one night and flying out very early the next morning and didn't want to pay big money for a hotel for a few hours as we checked out at 4:30am. It suited us for close proximity to restaurants, bars and airport. In general hostels aren't our thing so we weren't impressed. However we did stay in many hostels in Australia last year so have a lot to compare to. Internet also very quick.
The rooms are old and worn. They do not have air-conditioning and it became extremely stuffy day and night. The fan in the room is pointless as it is not fast at all and the speed it does spin at is a waste as it doesn't provide any relief from the heat. To be honest we stayed out most of the night as we weren't looking forward to sleeping there.
Everyone was very helpful and friendly.
Awesome people, awesome fellow travelers, super friendly and helpful staff. Planned on just one night here, then 2 at a normal hotel... but here was so great, I kept adding another night!
