It was peaceful & relaxing.
It was a bit pricey.
Grounds were incredible - great views; warm, welcoming and peaceful interaction and feel; very tranquil, serene and balanced; provides with great options for working on yoga while experiencing good chi
rooms might be a little noisy but not unacceptable given the design and layout, this does not in any way take away from the zen of the resort!
As a true beginner I received outstanding instruction in meditation and yoga. The classes on the daily schedule were free for over night guests. The natural beauty and peaceful setting was very refreshing.
Great location if you want to get off the crowded beach for a minute while only being 20 minutes from the airport and 5 minutes to great restaurants in Paia. The cooler mountain climate and no need for air conditioning is a great respite.
We stayed one night here on a stopover to the Big Island of Hawaii. The room was beautiful, with a *super* comfy bed and a great shower! The staff were super friendly and helpful. I wish we'd had more time to try out the yoga classes and enjoy the facilities more!
Our stay was too short.
Hotel operations (back of house) are above average. I've stayed at hotels all over the world (often overstaffed with obsequious servants) yet this hotel was the best run operationally that I've ever experienced. Exceptional, genuinely friendly operations staff (maintenance, cleaners, chef) and very clean immaculate property on EVERY LEVEL (including the out of the way bathroom for the backup jacuzzi). Love all the touches: - Clean, clean, clean. - No air conditioning, no phones, no TV's. Leads to a special experience and the lavish grounds give you time to reflect and bathe in your good luck! -Visited in the off season, so it was sparsely populated. -Aveda products
Front of the house staff - pretty awful. Reception, waiter...ugh. Second rate and uncaring. Maybe the service is better for white, blonde yoginis with no body fat, but for me (not falling into any of those categories), interactions with front of house were rude and shallow. - Embarrassingly bad food. Not sure the story with that. Better they spent on the money on grounds than on ingredients, so although disappointing, not a mood killer. - Sound carries because it's practically an eco resort with a lot of open space. Really wonderful, except at night when people are talking late into the night and you can hear everything. Walls are thin and there's no background machinery humming and droning (like AC) to hide voices. Not a problem for me (although talking guests often woke me up from a deep sleep), but important to note.
This hotel is in the "country" and away from all the action. We loved the decor and the architectural finishes. The grounds were very beautiful and well maintained. The pool and spa are salt water, beautiful and clean and doesn't leave your skin itchy. I love that it's close to Paia Fish Market. You must eat there during your stay!
Our main complaint was that the (antique) bed frame squeaked every time time my wife and I moved. We went during a very hot period in the summer and found out that the rooms do not have air conditioning, which contributed to our uncomfortable sleep. Also, there roosters walking around that will wake you early in the morning. The breakfast that was included was just so-so.
Relaxing atmosphere of hotel with focus around meditation and relaxation
No air-con - just ceiling fans
No A/C, bugs and insects in the room. Terrible breakfast, poor wifi...
relaxed, somewhat spiritual atmosphere wonderful setting great yoga programme remote location but in short driving distance of all of central, northern maui's major sights
very limited breakfast
When reviewing Lumeria you have to remember it is a unique setup on Maui. If you a yoga devotee and into a total detox experience you will love it. But if you are like us heathens and want a beautiful tranquil oasis, with lovely fresh food and great massage etc you will also love it.
The design of the place is great, nice gardens, friendly staff. Very zen. Really a gem among Hawaii hotels. And their chef is marvelous.
Dinner atmosphere Yoga class Lobby staff
Need to have a phone in the room Need to have a security staff at night Need to fix water pressure in shower
Yoga class was amazing. Loved hammocks
A little far from town and no shuttle
This is truly a gem in Maui. I live on Oahu and have been looking for a place like this for over 10 years. The tranquility, peace and beauty of this property is hard to describe in words and in pictures. The classes they have to offer (and that my friend and i had a chance to experience) like the Guided Meditation, Yoga (with the amazing Skeeter) and the Aromatherapy class were all uplifting and very positive. I will be back!!
That i had to leave!
Serene oasis, attentiveness to detail from staff, environment, pool, great for recharging batteries
Add-on costs higher than can be found elsewhere on island (dinner, treatments, 'adventures') Event schedule incompatible with a typical holiday routine (eg. hot yoga only @ 12.30)
Very peaceful. Great staff
The grounds are beautiful with lots of lovely places to sit outside and relax. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable. The staff are friendly and went out of their way to help us. It's nice to have yoga and other classes included in the price as well as breakfast.
The walls between the rooms are not well insulated so you can hear other guests talking etc. Also, our friends stayed in a room facing the outside of the property (towards the road) and they found the road noises very loud. Our room facing the courtyard was fine.
Exceeded the expectation of what I expected for the rooms. The staff was really nice and the property was peaceful.
Location and atmosphere
Service and breakfast was poor
Rooms were clean and well decorated. Paid dinner was good.
We found it a bit frustrating that we were told that check-in was at noon but the room was not available for another 3.5 hours. We had a "garden suite" that was in fact facing the parking lot and quite noisy. Generally there was not the ocean/mountain views we were expecting. There was no air conditioning in our room(this was not mentioned anywhere on the website as far as I know). Poor wifi connection that could only be used in the dining area. The complimentary breakfast was the worst we've ever had. Overall, certainly not what one would expect for the high prices they are charging.
the serenity of the place. total peacefulness, just what we needed after our flight. Beds were super comfortable and the area beautiful.
All the "budha?" sculptures were a bit over the top. Also constant "musak" during the day and into the evening outside of our room left no space to hear the birds, etc. Became irritating after a couple of hours. The female chef was really impatient when we asked about the meals.
Loved the atmosphere, the decor, the setting, the quiet, no TV, the evening indoor and outdoor fireplaces, the other guests, the breakfast and good coffee, the comfy bed, the luxury shower - everything! We met the owner who explained a little about the history of Lumeria. Liked being away from the hubbub but close enough to Paiea to go into "town" for dinner.
