One of the employees was very nice and welcoming
Very old hotel (1903), good for people who like vintage, not so good for who don't appreciate it so much like me...
Absolutely beautiful and the staff were so helpful with our tour of San Francisco. I wod definitely stay there anytime I visit!!!
Nice room, bathrobes, clawfoot tub was delightful and excellent bed
A bit noisy from staff outside in the alley talking and hanging out with my windows open because the room was warm...plus they smoked and the smell came right up into my room
Bed, Bathroom, housekeeping, The goodie basket for convenience.
1. The smell of the wood. 2. The thermostat did not work properly and old. 3. carpet had stains from the past. 4. No microwave - even in a hotel at a remote Kansas they have that- even in cheap hotels. 5. The staff members did not explain what is complimentary and what not. 6. The goodie basket was placed convenience thats good but they mentioned to go ahead and enjoy and would be replaced everyday. But never mentioned that it was not complimentary. If it was not complimentary it should be specified clearly.
The Majestic is a beautiful old San Francisco Victorian yet it had all of the modern amenities that I enjoy. It is a little off the beaten path, but downtown and the Civic Center are walkable. Breakfast in the restaurant was perfection...gorgeous dining room, good food and friendly staff.
Near California street cable car, gets you anywhere Near Japan city, van ness, eating facilities Nice, clean and spacious room and bathroom, safe
Shower water could have been more warm.
It had character
Unfortunately, the food was horrible. You know the kind of dry tasteless chicken you get from a caterer. This was worst. The Salmon Benedict the following morning was overly salty. The food was of such poor quality and service that it over shined the character of the hotel.
I liked the bed. The ammenidities in the bathroom were nice.
The room looked run down slightly. The tv was off to the side so a pole was in view. The a.c. didn't work.
Room decor grew on me. Good location. Barman Mike - excellent at his job & very entertaining. Staff great.
Some renovations on arrival
Beautiful historic building. Very helpful staff. They recommended the restaurant Tommy's Joynt for our dinner. Was a terrific recommendation within walking distance. Very comfy bed with draperies above headboard. Loved well used antique furniture in room. Asked for clawfoot tub and enjoyed a bubble bath. They were doing renovations in the lobby and staff apologized for dust. We enjoyed staying in a hotel with so much history. Don't find buildings with such character too often. If there had not been a discount through hotels.com, we would have not chosen to stay there. If you love old buildings, antique furniture, and can look past renovations and worn cabinets , then this is the place for you. Amazing architecture. Because of the age of the hotel there is no parking at hotel. However for a $35.00 fee , a valet will park your car in a secured garage within a block . We felt relatively safe walking within a few blocks of hotel. We only walked where others were on the streets. We knew we had gone too far when noone was around except for homeless people in alleys. We did not have a chance to explore around hotel during the day due to our traveling timeline. But lots of cool buildings in the area that would have fun to check out.
Good value for the price paid but they didn't honor the booking.com rate for the room i stayed in.
They charged me the wrong rate and when I tried to correct it before I left they said they couldn't do it. So now having to fight that after the fact
Holes in bedding and walls.
Great service, complimentary drinks like coffee in the morning and cool drinks in afternoon and night perfect after a day sightseeing to come back into the hotel with that. Comfortable bed, free wifi.
My wife did not like the fact that the hotel is supposabely haunted and it scared her a lot. The 4th floor is meant to be haunted and especially 407. She insisted we stay on any other floor so we stayed on the 5th. One day we pressed the lift button to go down to the lobby and for some reason it stopped and the doors opened on the 4th with nobody there and right in front of room 407. She went white with fear. Spooky huh. There are many other ghost stories related to room 407 on the internet. Stories from guests and maids of the hotel. This hotel did have a spooky feel to it. The lighting, the decor, the hallways, the elevator. But you can just ignore it and most people will not be worried unless they strongly believe in ghosts. Overall i did like this hotel.
The wifi didn't involve annoying splash screens and repeated logins. And the room windows actually opened as the receptionist told me they would, when I asked him how to turn down the heat in the room. Oh, and the wallpaper in the dining room was really great.
The hotel was undergoing renovation, which was not indicated when I booked. The whole ground floor was a dusty and noisy construction site. The reception was moved to a lectern in the bar, continuously blaring some ball games. This noise penetrated the otherwise very, uhm, Majestic dining room, and made breakfast rather unpleasant, courteous though the service was. The bedroom had two comfortable arm chairs but no desk, and since there was no lobby or other facitlity where one could work, we spent as little as possible time here.
Rude staff at checkout - dragging out to 10 min process as she was watching tv and making rude, passive agressive comments toward me when I explained I was in a hurry.
Good staff and location. Very nice historical building.
Parking service could be improved, leaving the car in the parking a couple of hours after check out should not be a big problem.
My car got broken into in the neighborhood... Valet was $32 for one night! Boo!!!
Dining room was lovely, server exceptional. Food good, too. Old San Francisco charm.
Renovation in progress - will provide needed updates.
The bartender was absolutely amazing and one of a kind!!
pay for parking
Just about everything was great. Location was great. Incredible value for the mini suite.
While the location is where I like to hang out in the city, this time the hotel seemed to have gone downhill.
To list a few, the hotel seemed less clean then the other times I had been, the staff was not very attentive or helpful although the bell boy at the end of my stay was very kind and did help us with our bags. First of all, we upgraded to a room mostly because we saw there was a fire place in the room, when we called the front desk to figure out how to turn it on they told us it was fake and the city law doesn't allow them to use it...a detail that would have been appreciated before we paid for it. Along with this there was a huge box structure around the bed, making the room uncomfortable and my mother broke her pinky toe when she stubbed it there. On our last day as we headed out and they seemed pushy for us to check out (it was a few hours before check out) we came back to find the elevator out of order on all floors for construction they had started shortly in the hotel (how about letting us know that we won't be able to bring our 5 bags down by elevator? That way we actually DO check out early). Also, the stairs among walking in aren't practical for a hotel where people come with bags, especially because no one is really there eager to help. It was over-all not the best experience and I don't think I'll be going back. Too bad.
Excellent service friendly bar with great bartender beautiful old rooms in a great location near the Fillmore district.
Small rooms with hard beds and limited hours for bar and restaurant. It was worth the discounted price but I wouldn't pay full price.
Price affordable, although better options turned out to be available near the Moscone Centre
No way to make coffee/tea in room. Somewhat noisy
They called the room a jr. Suite but it was a small room with a love seat. The batjroom was very small. No air conditioning! 5th floor was very warm.
