The setting is quaint, up on the hillside of Oahu, and commands a beautiful view of the area. Yard plants were beautiful. Ferrel chickens, a nice touch. I grew up on a farm, and liked that. Our hostess was nice, she manages the place for her parents, and lives in the front house. Ours was a bedroom with access to the living room and kitchen. We were only a few minutes from the town area, and well into residential. The shared bath was adequate, and no problem.
The cleanliness was an issue. The home, and rooms within are a bit rundown. The furniture, in our room was broken, and quite dusty. The floor was gritty and there was no broom we could find. The linens were clean but old, stained, and torn. The bed comfortable enough, but we slept on beach towels, and the fan was a help to keep cool. The coffee pot wasn't usable as the grounds basket wasn't cleanable. A disappointment. The clorox wipes we were requested to use in the bath was empty and had been for a while. we replaced them with a new container.
I like Marie. The fee is incredible low and the area is good.
The bed could have been better .It was clean.
Staff was helpful with suggestions of restaurants and activities nearby Convenient location for one night
Bugs,spiderwebs Worn towels
Location was close to downtown
Noisy roosters and feral cat noises during the night Room was not clean Noisy fan Hostel style setting
The location, 2 min walking from a 2.5 hiking loop. 15 min by car to Waikiki/Honolulu Harbor. Marie is great & helpful.
just the location
Room was dirty, with potato chips on the floor, broken woods in the closet, smelly bed.....
I liked having access to a kitchen and laundry facility during my 9 day stay. Made life much easier. The staff was very nice. Marie was accommodating to us during our stay.
Not a fan of the constant bug bites I received from local wildlife while staying there. Many a bug found around the place.
They cancelled my booking the day before I was due to check in saying they had over booked, leaving me to take what ever was available in Honolulu which proved to be more expensive. These people should not be allowed to run a B+B as it is not teh first time they have done this according to the reviews. I only hope they have not taken any funds out of my account as well
Good friendly staff
I swear is was a sperm stain on the sheets......I got there late and just left the top sheet to cover what looked like a sex stain (like the sheets weren't washed!)
like the location .and owner was so helpful.
It was not a clean room at all...some old towel and so many cockroaches bugs ....horrible night .....and no proper wall below of it made by mesh so wind was coming in night .........carpet yukk so called mirror nasty..........if u just want to spend night and want something cheap and free parking ......stranger came ask for sugar .....i would say give 20$ more and stay in hotel not in this stay ........
If you want a real experience of Hawaiian life in a residential setting for a reasonable price, then this is for you. I wished I had more than my one night to explore Oahu from this comfortable and friendly lodging. The last thing I wanted during my stay was a 5-star, expensive, high rise hotel, and at Makiki Heights Drive I felt I had an authentic experience. I felt so connected to local nature and animal life right outside the window. Will definitely stay there again next time I'm in the area. I am very grateful to Marie for offering this comfortable and convenient lodging for such a fair price.
beautiful area at edge of mountain slopes a few blocks from city. Chickens in yard. Very Hawaiian country style. Green, scenic.
the place needs total overhaul. Dirty, rundown, repairs needed everywhere. I am a rough camper type, traveled all over. This is in third world condition now, but could be great with a lot of money and effort
Honestly, for $60 per night to get a bed, a full kitchen, and a clean bathroom is fantastic for Honolulu! My partner are big walkers and hikers so the proximity to the state park was ideal. Waikiki beach and ala moana park are only about 2 miles away as well, so we didn't have a need to rent a car or take a bus even. Bottom line is that there were minimal bugs, it was close to everything, the location was quite pretty, and it was so cheap!
The negatives of this place include a resident gang of 25 roosters who enjoyed making noise starting at 3 am- so bring earplugs! Also the furnishings, sheets, carpeting, and everything was old and worn out. This is not a normal hotel experience so don't expect it. There was a minor bug problem, kept in check by 6 geckos- which were friendly and cute.
Friendly attitude of staff.
The facilities are substandard, poorly maintained, messy and dirty. Poultry running in the yard, Roosters crowing throughout the early morn. Too may people for one communal bathroom. These people need to up their act big time.
The bed was soft.
The entire place was filthy. The floors were disgusting, the bathroom was gross - the shower curtain was horrible. I cannot use enough negative adjectives to describe the conditions. It was gross and I have stayed in some cheap places - this was by far one of the worst EVER!
this place should be condemned by the fire marshal and health department.Letting cats and dogs running in the house.Boxes stacked in the hall hard to get to the room.So if you are reading this your probably wanting to save money like I was,DON'T DO IT HERE, worst place you can imagine.
filthy surroundings tired building, vermin
To wake up with all the sounds of the rainforrest and to sit on the porch and watch the birds. Being able to cook and BBQ , it was all together a nice stay, we will return to Maria if we ever go back to Hawaii
It is near to the hike trail !
I think they didn't clean up sience the place opend !
- was easy to access from wikiki - front of the entrance of the trails in state park
- make sure it need to clean - didn't sleep well because chickens made noisy from dawn
