The staff at the Lafayette Hotel was very friendly and helpful. We ordered room service a couple nights because the weather was too bad to leave and the Gun Room Restaurant was excellent. The prices were very affordable and everything we ordered was phenomenal. The location was excellent because we could walk to the stores on the street with ease. The last night that we stayed was a last minute decision because of the weather so we asked for a bigger room. The room had a king size bed and a sleeper sofa and it was really nice.
The hallway of the hotel was so cold and sometimes the heat didn't seem to be working. One of the last nights we were there we had the heat turned all the way up and it was still very chilly. The shower in the first room we stayed in was very cramped as we had to squeeze by the sink to get into it. The walls seemed paper thin because we could hear every time someone went down the hallway or used the ice machine. Also there were two separate charges on my bank account that were way more than what my stay was even though it was fixed when I checked out, if I didn't have the money on the card it would have resulted in an overdraft fee.
The Lafayette is a character piece. Old, elegant, comfortable, steeped in its riverboat history. It lived up to expectations as a destination, not just a place to sleep.
I liked the historical feel of the rooms.
No coffeemakers in the room and we only had a shower instead of a bathtub.
The hotel was easy to find and very victorian in style- the room was small but clean, and there are several dining options on-site. Should I ever be in Marietta, OH again, I'd stay again.
Great location, very cool nastalgic hotel. Staff was great.
Bed too hard but I think that about most hotels.
Right in downtown Marietta; easy to find location; close to a lot of things; historic building
Staff not that friendly; food and service in the Gun Room was poor at best; didn't feel overly clean
Friendly and helpful staff. Great atmosphere. Takes me back to riverboat era.
Parking can be challenging if any special events going on.
The location was perfect. And very friendly staff.
Nothing it has everything what you need
Atmosphere History of the hotel and the area Location, Location, Location Small town feel Room decor
Beds were not the best, too stiff mainly
Tiny room, hotel smells terrible, immediately returned to front desk & then left. Very bad hotel.
The staff is top notch, facilities are as expected with the history (I love the architecture and they keep it authentic) I will keep coming back.
Parking could be better, sometimes with events going on it is a challenge.
The two staff members I met at the front desk were very polite.
Rips in carpet, mold in ceiling in bathroom, hair on the faucet, filth on the blinds, boxed in mattresses leaving one no idea what lies beneath. Needs major renovations. I was booked for three nights and left after the first night. Yuck
I got what I expected. Friendly staff, historic building (though thoroughly modern), with meals available (room service) and restaurants within the structure. Come, enjoy! Both The Lafayette Hotel and beautiful Marietta on the Ohio and Muskingum Rivers.
Bedroom lighting was poor.
I went to high school down the river from historic Marietta, so on a trip from SC to Northwest OH I purposely chose the Lafayette Hotel for its river front location and historic old hotel charm. It did not disappoint. It rained during my short stay, but it is well located as a hub for historic sight seeing. It had convenient free parking and a decent restaurant. The room was small, as warned by other reviewers, but was laid out much like the small cabin my wife and I once shared on The Delta Queen sternwheeler. I was traveling alone so the full-size bed was adequate. The bath was pretty large and very updated.
The room appeared to have baseboard heating and the A/C was an old, noisy, but effective window unit. The bed was not comfortable, not uncomfortable. It was passable for one night, too stiff for my taste. Dinner was like heated-up leftovers, but tasty. Breakfast was freshly prepared and pretty good (and free if you selected the Traditional Breakfast option).
Historic aspects of building Night desk person Restaurant - the Gun Room was neat and staff was friendly
Smell in the elevator Air Conditioner and heat going full blast in room and no ability to control the temp Rude front desk person on daytime
The historical look and location by the river
Mildew smell in lobby drinks are entirely too high 9.50 for a shot of patron ridiculous
the detail from the decore / design of the rooms & woordwork & decorations
room on the street side was very loud. lots of hillbillies and rednecks driving around with NO mufflers late into the evening
The staff and the history was awesome!
This place is amazing. You feel like you've stepped back in time as soon a you enter the front door. Other than a few modern updates, you feel like it looks the same as the day it opened in 1918. Great room value, views of the river, and historical charm make this our favorite weekend getaway location.
Other family members were staying at the hotel and e enjoyed the use of the lobby. Also it was nice to have a beautiful lounge and excellent breakfast.
I like that it was on the Ohio River and staff was very friendly. We liked the nostalgia of the hotel. Very nice.
Our room was a bit small. Didn't expect it to be as small as it was for a room with a double bed. Picture was a little deceiving on line but we liked it just the same.
Wonderful themed rooms, old world charm, fantastic situation.
Nothing, loved the place
Unique older hotel--excellent room and value
The fact that it was an old hotel and had old world features. Sleeping on a steamboat was a thrill
our room had no view
