Me and my husband loved the location considering there were a good amount of great restaurants near and we love to walk the city so we were pleased with the location, our room (especially the cleanliness) was great we would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends
Some of the staff was a little rude but compared to the good staff we encountered it didn't affect our stay in any way.
The staff were so friendly and helpful. Its a great location. Its got character.
No a/c so I wouldn't like to stay here in the Summer.
Good quality hotel with friendly, helpful staff. Clean bright room. Bar and restaurant on site if you're feeling lazy. Short walk to Powell Street for cable car, BART, Muni.
There was no up side to this experience . The bed was rock hard and the walls paper thin . I could hear the neighbors crystal clear and the pipes made noise all night . No sleep and the manager never called me after I asked to have her call me . I would have to say this was the worst hotel I have stayed in . It looked great in the pictures but I can't say enough about how bad this was !
Location of the hotel.
Wish the hotel had coffee ready first thing in the morning (6:00am), but used the coffee maker in the room instead. Our floor and room had a mild musty order, but other than that it was fine.
comfy bed, had doubts at first regarding the room temperature because their was no air conditioning unit in the room but the overhead fan worked very well, kept the room nice and cool without a noise. room was facing the busy street but to our surprise wasn't loud or bothersome at all.. the clerk at the desk had even asked our preference which was a nice gesture. friendly staff.
the shower head was awkwardly in a corner of wall and the water temp would change constantly. the surrounding neighborhood didn't appear to be the best but the hotel is placed higher up on the hill so you could retreat back feeling a little safer than the surrounding areas.
The briefly garden is a very peaceful place in the middle of the city. Good location to start walks up to Nob Hill, to wander around Union Square area and lower Powell Street, or really anywhere east to the financial district if you like to walk. Aside from these things, the staff was consistently helpful as I needed to get business done, including receiving and shipping some big parcels and picking up some supplies. They gave great suggestions and helped much.
The cleanliness and friendly staff. Got safety box in room. Ironn ironboard inroom...big room. Worth for my money
I need kettle in my room. Difficult to adjust the water heater.
Great location for theater and restaurants. Room was very comfortable and surprisingly spacious for SF. Loved the new decor. This is our 4th time at The Mark Twain.
The location was great! Our room was clean, updated décor was nice. I like fresh air and it was nice that I was able to open our window. The staff was nice and professional.
The decor was charming and the location unbeatable for price.
The staff were unhelpful and generally not so knowledgeable about information that should be obvious. During a down pour at 9am I asked about the closest place to get an umbrella and the staff literally said "the only place to get one is at Macy's". I checked my phone and Macy's was not only 4 blocks away - it didn't open for an hour and a half. I walked outside and 2 doors away was a general store that had an abundance of umbrellas.
The bed was great and a choice of pillows. Good house keeping service The restaurant attached had wonderful food. The most amazing big soaking bath tub ever.
The elevator is very small No control for the heat in the rooms, runs on a radiator system. Make sure you get a room not facing the street.
Cleanliness, staff attitude. Quite a good price for the central location.
The bathroom is very small and has close to no shelves or hooks, almost nowhere to put your things or clothes. Mixed location - very close to the very city centre, but at the same time quite close to the center of Tenderloin district, whose section should rather be avoided
Rattling pipes when some one flushed a toilet!
The hotel is really confortable and clean and all the staff (a part from one person at the reception) is very very kind, they helped me in everything I needed!
The location, while it is very convenient because you can reach everything easily, on the other hand, however, is on the edge of a very degraded area. But actually it was not a real problem, even if I was a woman travelling alone, it was more a feeling of be unsafe.
The decor and theme was fantastic. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. The facilities were all in tip-top shape. You also can't beat the location.
The walls were incredibly thin. I could hear neighbors' conversations. There was also perpetual running water throughout the night either outside of the building or within the walls. The bed and pillows are not comfortable-- the bed was very hard and the pillows had no structure.
The room was comfortable and the staff was acomodating. The location was good for us to walk to shopping and restaurants. All in all we had a great stay!!
Location and free wi-fi worked good for us. Comfortable room.
Our room had almost zero daylight. Bathtub was not cleaned well. The location can be eerie at night and sometimes daytime too. Use the Geary or O'Farrell way for a safer day. While having a rest at the bar around 9pm, even before finishing up our drinks we were told that the bar was getting closed.
Location: ease of access to main attractions.
Bathroom door in my hotel room did not close easily and would jam unless forced closed. Also valet parking was a a bit pricey per night.
1. Location convenient, right of Union square with all the shopping, eateries everywhere, close to Powell station and BART to airport and cablecars (though area not quiet, and are of a lot of homeless/beggars, etc.). 2.Very clean - bathroom outdated, do not expect glamour as in the photos. But everything was extremely clean in bedroom and bathroom. Good value for money. 3. Daytime staff was very helpful. 4. Cute hummingbird garden; details of Mark Twain theme.
1. Very noisy all night (even on 8th floor!), garbage trucks noise all night long, windows provide no sound isolation. Do not stay here if you are not a sound sleeper (really!). Also no curtains, the wooden blinds let light come in. 2. Do NOT come with kids/family - the hotel is on the back of Hilton, so many "accompanying ladies" and other stay at the hotel or stand at the door at night. You are also near a church that feeds people in need/homeless, not dangerous but do expect a lot of homeless, beggars, etc. 3. Paid bottled water. 4. Laptop doesn't fit laptop safe. 5. A lot older than photos show, not so glamorous, just ok.
The staff was very friendly and welcoming felt very comfortable and at home here in this beautiful and quaint hotel terrific location
Location: close to city center, public transport, shopping. Clean, comfortable, unique style.
Location: some neighbouring streets to avoid at night.
Kemal at the front desk is incredibly friendly and helpful.
room too small.
