Score from 1332 reviews Very good
The staff were amazingly friendly and there was free lemonade in the lobby! Great location.
The room (particularly the bathroom) looked a little shabby, but it was minor.
When turning on faucet, water pipe vibrates and generates big noise. Poor soundproof between rooms, hotel is noisy.
Location is convenient to Union Square Staff helpful and generous Continental breakfast items for sale in lobby Nicely appointed including robes
Parking is too expensive
Lobby was small nice - good bar stocked nicely
Small old rooms. Felt claustrophobic
Cleanliness and comfort. Free-of-charge WiFi. Free lemonade in the lobby for the customers. A good alternative to expensive business hotels in the same area.
Late check out was not possible. My flight was at 8:50pm thus I would have appreciated the possibility of a late check out at 5pm.
Close to downtown, Union Square, Hilton - We stay here frequently
Rooms a little small, elevator is small, but its a classic hotel thats worth it!!
Very friendly staff, good bar and food, convenient location. Charming and private Hummingbird Garden is delightful.
Difficult to control room temp and I wish the lovely garden opened before 10am
-Location near union square -Friendly staff
-NOISY -No A/C but didn't miss it
within walking distance to shops and restaurants, clean, comfortable bed, rooms very small but adequate
front rooms extremely noisy due to heavy road traffic, unfriendly, unhelpful and rude staff members
Location, room - be sure you ask for a street view, not patio. Make sure you try breakfast next door at Tylors. Sightseeing bus tour stops right across the street.
Lack of breakfast.
Location right across street from more expensive Hilton conference site, so saved some money with no loss of convenience. Flat screen panel tv, good cleaning staff.
Room a little Spartan, with cardboard chest of drawers hidden in closet, limited desk space, no tissue supplied, small bathroom with no towel rack, and non-functioning radiator heat. Didn't need heat anyway, and none of this was a deal breaker for me - I wasn't in town to lounge in my room.
My next door ended up to be an irresponsible person. He had sex with his company until 3am in the morning and didn't let me sleep. The next day when I complained at the front desk, the woman who worked there said she cannot do anything (I gave a front desk a call at 3am as well) about it and doesn't want to hear any more complain. She was very rude! The day after my next door had couple of people over and started smoking and. My room and the whole hallway both were filled with smoke! I really couldn't take it any more and decided to leave in the morning. This was the worst place I have ever stayed!
price, location, spacious room
strange smell when you enter the room
very nice, clean and comfortable hotel for the money, very convenient and excellant location.
couple of small things , not very important
Interesting Theme about Mark Twain. Large safe with a light in it.
Was met with a difficult staff member (Baji) with 'attitude' - an unhelpful attitude & not there for the customer. Room cramped and air-conditioning did not work. Door did not close properly required hefty pull to latch it - could have gone out with entire room open. Elevator was clunky. Lack of shelving in bathroom. No water supplied - unlike other hotels in the region. Needs a general upgrade of facilities and staff training.
I liked the hummingbird garden, water & lemonade available in the lobby, fitness center, close proximity to restaurants and stores, sleep music available on alarm clocks and friendliness of staff
I did not like listening to noisy neighbors and sirens throughout the night.
Location was good, across from Hilton. Smaller but less expensive rooms, comfortable for a couple not spending much time in room. The Thai Cafe right outside the front door is better than Starbuck's in the Hilton for morning coffee. Free wifi in rooms.
Smaller rooms, some homeless folks but they are everywhere now in San Francisco
Everything else was fine with the hotel.. besides the stuff that I didn't like..
Right around corner from a homeless shelter with numerous bums sleeping in the street.. a lot sketchy things going on in the tenderloin and Taylor street.. Also NO Air Conditioning...
The staff were superb, aside from one darker woman upon checkout. Rather ignorant and overly not that cheerful. The room was clean, the shower was ok, the bathroom itself was clean. The furniture and style was interesting and different. The vallet parking was quite good (though I only used it on check in and out). The bed was comfortable Location was close to Union Square, and easy to figure out how to avoid the homeless areas (despite it being on the border of the homeless district).
The single elevator was slow and tiny. I only used it when carrying heavy bags. The stairs were much quicker. The darker woman upon checkout. It was quite expensive for what you got (although it is San Francisco).
good location - easy walking to Moscone center and many local attractions
windows don't shut completely and you can hear street level conversations - old hotel has its limitations even when updated
facilities were great for the price
room faced the street, and was a bit noisy
The staff were very helpful and friendly . The room was comfortable and clean.
The location was central, surrounded by great restaurants and shops.Unfortunately being harrassed by the homeless people made me nervous when coming and going to and from the hotel. Spoilt our stay.
Sounds carried - i could hear the plumbing, doors slamming, people walking in hallways, etc.
Quiet and clean
Needs brighter lights in the room
An older boutique hotel with charm close to Union Square.
You need to be able to overlook the proximity to a few welfare facilities nearby.
