Score from 82 reviews Excellent
In downtown Providence, this hotel is across from the Rhode Island Convention Center and the WaterPlace Park. It features an indoor pool, a fitness center and an outdoor patio.
Score from 60 reviews Good
clean, comfortable, walking distance to downtown, free parking
bit expensive and I would not say it was 5 stars (4 stars at most)
SLOW ON MY MICROWAVE REQUEST, MISSED 1ST CLEANING, HAD TO WAIT UNTIL ALMOST 3 FOR THE NEXT CLEANING ROUND
The cleanliness of the hotel, pool and patio beautiful , hotel amenities above and beyond, so close to the city but very easy to travel to
Staff was very friendly. Room was clean and comfortable.
No indication of where to park to check in to avoid the $22 valet charge upon arrival. Was not aware that I had to make reservations for the shuttle service in advance. Very pricey and not very close to downtown.
Too much noise because of AC and the location is very close to main road.
Unlike its competition downtown, the hotel offers free parking and wi-fi, plus a shuttle to compensate for its greater distance from the city center (we didn't try it). The room was comfortable and attractive (but a long and confusing walk from the front desk). As another reviewer noted, the hotel could absorb the crowd and noise of a large wedding without affecting the other guests at all. Very snazzy indoor-outdoor pool with adjacent bar, larger than usual fitness center.
The layout of the building was confusing and required quite a hike from the front desk to hard-to-find elevators. The hotel was an odd mix of up-to-date decorating and room doors that looked like salvage from an old college dorm (other signs of age, too). As other reviewers have noted, the room a/c unit was fairly loud, but it did have the effect of drowning out any noise from the parking lot and drive outside our window. Finally, I am not a fan of breakfast buffets that encourage overspending and overeating. Without including breakfast, the room rate seemed high to me.
Courteousness of the staff
We enjoyed the front desk clerks that checked us in and out (Friday 8/19 11pm - Sunday 8/21 10am). They were very pleasant. Plenty of parking also. The pool looked nice but we didn't use it.
The restaurant/bar isn't separated from lobby. We walked into a bar scene after a long drive. We also had out king bed room taken from us and were given two small DOUBLES. No breakfast except the buffet. Nothing special. Better deals out there for the money.
The pool and gym area had no proper changing room. There were no light on in the shower room when I got out of swimming pool. So that I had to go back to my room to take a shower.
This hotel is very near the location of water fire. In addition it is easily within walking distance of a number of great bars in downtown Providence. Also, it is right off the ramp from I-95, but there is no noise from traffic. Lastly, the parking is more than adequate. Although the hotel was full and was hosting a wedding, there was still plenty of different parking spaces to choose from.
I do not have many negative thoughts about the Marriott in Providence. My only complaint was that no type of a continental breakfast was offered for free. Last month I stayed in a moderately priced hotel in Manhattan and there was a nice breakfast featuring cereals, eggs, muffins, etc. I come to expect this when I stay in a hotel as opposed to a motel.
I like the pool and that u can order you're good at the pool and eat and chill. I also love that there was a shuttle bus there to take you wherever you need to go
Very comfortable bed and bedding in a well appointed room.
Comfort does not make up for loud hvac system. Awoke every time the system went on approximately every 30 minutes. This was with ear plugs. Also disturbed by a party outside in the courtyard at 3;30 am. Over all would not choose to return due to noise.
Nice outdoor pool, courtyard and gas fire pit.
Bathroom was a bit small for 3 people.
Not within the center
Awesome breakfast, nice hotel
Breakfast should be included with room rate, pay enough for room no need to pay an extra $30 for breakfast as well.
Pool area and location in Providence. Very nice people at front desk.
Hotel was tired. They need to clean their pool area...dirt in the pool, brown stains on hot tub tiles. Massive number of bugs in overhead lights in pool area (thats what I had to stare at doing laps/backstrokes. Also, some mildew stains in bathroom shower.
We always have a great time, its our second visit and we will be back ! Made my birthday celebration great! Love the pool are, Aqua :)
Location is good, parking is easy. Out door fire pits are awesome. Beds and bedding are very nice. Great staff, mostly students or grads of JWU hospitality program.
Expensive nightly room fee and some what limited dinner menu at the hotel restaurant.
Very convenient to downtown shopping. Love that there were parking on site.
Expected more for a 5 star hotel. Staff were very pleasant and went way and beyond. However the bed could have been more comfortable
The pool was very nice and the staff was friendly.
1. We booked a double bed room because it was for a Cheerleading competition. I got a king bed handicap room with no microwave. I've stayed at cheaper hotels that all rooms have microwaves. The food at the bluefin grill was disgusting. French fries were cold and chicken was rubbery. The only thing that was good was the broccoli and mashed potatoes. On the upside they did have a good breakfast omelette bar. My daughter fell in the bathroom because it was a handicap shower in which all the water would come out onto the bathroom floor. We had to put towels on the floor. And she had a cheering competition . You have to order dinner at the front desk instead if through the restaurant which I find very stupid.
Free shuttle to downtown.
They let me check-in several hours before posted check-in time. Room was comfortable. Bed was comfortable.
No hot water one night or the following morning. No apology even. Rather slow service in the uncrowded restaurant.
Shower in room was cold! No hot water throught the stay I called the front desk they did adjust my bill down
Nice hotel standard hotel set up nothing unusual about the rooms- toucan hear noise in the halls and above- but often happens in many hotels the workout room is good but not big enough for the size of the hotel peak hours you could not get on a machine- hotel restaurant and bar very good
