We were a bit surprised at how small our room was, by Hawaii standards. It was adequate, but didn't feel spacious, and for the price we were paying, I expected spaciousness. I would have preferred to have had the option of opting out on the services included in the resort fee and not having to pay it, but in these big resort hotels, the mandatory resort fee seems to be standard these days.
We were very comfortable and reasonably well taken care of by the friendly staff. Spectacular beachfront location, and the traditional Hawaiian fishponds between the hotel and the beach make it really unique. The location is within easy walking distance of 2 shopping malls with lots of restaurants, which is unusual for resorts on the Kona coast, where you often have to drive some distance to get to any restaurant or service outside of your hotel. Liked the 1 hour of free snorkle/fins use per day from the kiosk on the beach. The hotel's own Hawaii Calls restaurant is very good, and is fairly reasonably priced compared to many other similar resort restaurants in the area, which is not to say it's cheap, but it isn't outrageous, and you will spend just as much eating at many of the places in the nearby shopping mall.
