Hotel looks a bit tired but the hotel was very clean and the staff very helpful. Good free wifi.
Inability to control the temperature in the room
I was really pleased with the location, service, cleanliness, and quiet (which is important to me since I'm a light sleeper). The entire staff, including the desk clerks, bellmen, and housekeepers were friendly and helpful. The room and bathroom were immaculate. And while small, they were well-equipped with amenities. As a solo traveler this was perfect for me (it might feel a bit snug for a couple, depending on what you're used to; I live in Europe, so it wasn't a big deal). There's also a subway entrance just a block away so it was super convenient to get around the city. I feel like I got a great deal for the money. I would definitely stay there again.
The positives definitely outweigh the negatives. The only two things I didn't like were that my room was quite cold (there are no individual heating units in the guest rooms; I just got a cheap space heater at the corner Rite Aid) and that the decor in the public areas, particularly the carpet, was a bit shabby. This is an old, historic hotel though with lots of intimate warmth and charm. So it all felt like part of the experience.
Rooms were frigid (but, to be fair, the weather outside was really cold).
Dirty. Everything is falling apart. The bed is a mattress on a metal frame. Thermostat didn't work. the room was too hot, so we had to open the window and turn on the wall AC (on advise from the front desk ) to keep it down to 70 degrees. The restaurant wasn't open for breakfast on Monday morning.
Very Poor Hospitality, Staff were Rude and not quite friendly nor helpful
Staff is super-friendly and helpful. The rooms are very small but very quaint and very functional and comfortable. Food in the adjacent Bar/Restaurant (Ciello's) is outstanding! Location on 49th Street just off of 8th Avenue is ideal to Times Square and the rest of manhattan via the A C E subway.
Carpet on the stairs is old and treadbare. Bathroom sink cold water faucet leaked. Door latch to bathroom was broken.
Hotel location is very good. The room was not noisy.
Extremely small room, super old furniture. The hotel hall should definitely be renovated.
Staff always polite and ready to help 24/7. Quiet comfortable room. Central to a variety of places to eat, Broadway shows, subways and well positioned for easy access to galleries, the Lincoln Centre, Times Square, Grand Central, Uptown and Downtown centres of interest. I had a problem that required medical attention, Daniel was fantastic in getting me a cab and into a great hospital nearby. Toni, Brisbane, Australia.
Comfortable bed. Its really close to time square.
location and staff is perfect. they are really helpful.
there are only double beds and rooms are too small. But beside these location , staff everything is nearly perfect.
They are more professional and friendly than 5 stars hotel.
Rooms are really tiny
Room got flooded out by ac and was very close to getting electrocuted. Had 2 move roo.s twice because of faulty ac units. They never even offered a discount after having to move e at 2 am in the morning. Terrible
Location is PERFECT!!! Restaurant is AWESOME!!!
Wifi was available; however NO internet connection. The staff only could say "sorry about this" and "this cannot be solved". Not even their 'business' corner worked that time. Room were super hot constantly, a/c should be used all the time which was extremely loud
I once was a frequent guest at this hotel, but management hasn't invested a dime in upkeep: threadbare carpets; broken bathroom fixtures; dingy elevator, all of which made for a depressing stay. I'm afraid this was my last time at the Mayfair.
-excellent location -staff generally friendly -room clean/decor nice
-lobby carpet needs replacement -elevator should be renovated -too hot in the room
The location is excellent. It is on 49th street, next to the theatre housing The Book of Mormon. Bars, restaurants, theatres and main attractions are next doors, if you are a theatre goer and Times Square is where you would like to hang around, this is one of the best choices for you.
It is a little bit overpriced for the quality of room. I actually stayed in a single room and then moved to a double room because my friend joined me later and I found that the sizes of the beds in each type of the room are the same! However, space in the double room is a bit larger and comes with a bathtub in the bathroom.
Small hotel means shorter check in and out time Nice staff We saw Book of Mormon and it is right next store! Great location
Tiny elevator very slow
The location of the hotel was brilliant for access to anywhere in New York. It has a metro stop very close, Times Square is literally at the end of the road and turn right, perhaps 5 minutes walking, and it's very central among restaurants, bars, all the Times Square shops etc. It's a safe area, with lots going on. The free wi-fi worked well all the time, and I never had any problems with it. We were on the 5th floor. The heating was good, but it was too hot. It was constantly hotter than what the air conditioning could cool. But, we couldn't complain of the cold, that's for sure. The hotel called a taxi for us which was good and the hotel's taxi affiliate service is great. Very grateful for this. Overall it's a nice place, with a quaint feel and a great location. It isn't posh or chic, and it isn't top of the range, but you pay for the location in this part of NY. It's strange to think that hotels that were 3 minutes away from this one were asking for double the price!
Hotel staff are not particularly friendly. We approached them on several occasions, and whilst they answered our questions, they didn't seem too keen to be disturbed. The issue with staffing is that they change staff TOO frequently - my friend and I never saw the first guy after the first night; he was changed for somebody else and then we had different people every day, so we couldn't build up any rapport with the staff. Every time you entered the hotel it's as if you were entering for the first time. The hotel's central heating is controlled by one thermostat at the desk. It isn't specific to each room - so if room 101 wants it hotter, they ask at reception, and then the temperature of EVERY room is increased. The air conditioning unit was so old that it didn't cool very well, and when it did, it was making a huge racket which we had to put up with. When we spoke to hotel staff, they seemed keen to help but wanted our key when we were out, so we refused and put up with the issue. They wanted to go to the room when we weren't there, which seemed a bit shifty to us.
Location was fantastic
room was small , elevator insane and fairly expensive
Friendly staff and very accommodating
Shower broke, no shower, elevator got stuck, took the stairs, tv remote broken too.
Amazing location less than five minutes and your in the centre of time square
Hotel decor is awful and very dated and the heating was on full blast the whole time so had to keep the window open which seems completely pointless
Low price, good location for theaters and museums.
Room was overly heated, with no separate control in room. Air conditioner barely worked. Had to leave window open all night and cover radiator with blanket.
The position is perfect because the hotel is very close to time square and the subway
The television didn't work for one day. The bed and the room were very small! There wasn't any wifi signal in the room
