I stayed here about thirty five years ago and remembered it as a good place when I was deciding where to stay in San Antonio last week. It's friendly, clean, well appointed, and not stuffed with cliche Holiday Inn-y things.
Nothing bad. Nothin.
Where it is located
Close to every thing! Love the history of the hotel and surrounding area! Good staff, and beautiful hotel!
It was 30 deg out side and we had our window open in room and it was still 84 deg in the room and no way to cool off room in winter! Toilet flushed poorly!
Loved the balcony
The location was awesome and just the beauty and history of the hotel itself was great.
If you are looking for a unique place to stay, this is the place. Artistic and infused with over a century and a half of history. A fine restaurant with very reasonable pricing.
Location and breakfast
Wifi and shabby corridors
I loved everything OUTSIDE my hotel room. Very beautiful and historic hotel conveniently located next to everything.
My room, it was sub-par for a standard room at 220 a night. The headboard was loose and not attached, the shower too powerful and old, the bathroom like a hospital bathroom rather than a hotel bathroom. Standard room is not worth it.
The valet people were very friendly and accommodating. Front desk was nice and I loved how the history of the era is displayed with information and everything was really taken care of. They actually have a really nice cleaning staff that does a good job.
The ac could have been a little more efficient. Room service very reasonable but the wait was an hour. That's prob only person we talked to that seemed a bit non accommodating, but it was probably just her busyness.
Hotel had a great atmosphere and location.
Room sevice slow and food was cold.
Cold coffee in the large stainless pot
Room was a little dated but they were in the process of renovations
We lived the location, it's right in the center of the action. The staff were nice and friendly.
Couldn't get our room cool enough, I broke out all over my body I guess I was allergic to whatever you washed your sheets with.
Nice size room but bed was a little small (full bed, but I was only one sleeping in it). Shower was excellent, other than the showerhead being a little too tall. Bathroom was clean and towels were nice.
Wifi was horrible. Cut out every 10 seconds. A/C didn't work either. Tried to cool down the room and it only made it warmer. Had to keep the windows open all the time.
I liked the courtyard and old world charm..
My only complaint was that I couldn't get our room warm enough..
The hotel is a beautful, historic, building. The room was beautiful and the furnishings were lovely. it was very romantic, quiet and relaxing.
Waiting a long time for my car (valet) at checkout. I arrived at 3 P.M. and my room was not ready so I had to leave my belongings with the valet. It took over 30 minutes for the valet to bring my luggage to my room when asked to do so.
The location for the money was amazing! Hotel is just across the street from the Alamo and only a block from from the River Walk. Four different tour buses begin their root at this location. Cabs available.
The hotel is historic and could use some refurbishment. The Menger Bar is a local site of interest and it is understaffed. And the dining room had trouble keeping the coffee hot. But location and price more than compensated.

Great, historical location near the River Walk
We liked everything about The Menger Hotel. The staff is wonderful and helps in any way they can. The hotel is located only steps away from the Alamo and the Riverwalk. If you are there on a Sunday, treat yourself to the Sunday Brunch at the hotel; you will not regret it!
Location good , the room is clean.
The hotel was beautiful and the staff was friendly and helpful. I love the historical pictures and antiques. The beds were very comfortable.
The first room we checked into was really bad. The windows and a/c vent were covered with black mold. The closet also had mold and a very powerful smell of mildew. We had to change rooms. In the new room the shower did not work properly. It was either scalding hot or ice cold. The room was small but comfortable. The table that the coffee pot was set up on was not close enough to an outlet so it had to be moved to be used.
Close to (not on) the water walk. There's a kind of museum exhibit in the lobby
The rooms have an institutional, stale look with small beds with weird lumpy comforters. Bathroom with water stains on fixtures old 70s shower curtains no guard on the drain. Its a beat up old hotel and it does not deserve a 4 star rating. Not up to my standards. And it was misleading to offer our room as a double room with two queen beds. There was no extra room for me to work or do calls. It was just one room with two full beds that were rather small. I hate that sinking feeling when you open a Hotel room door and you realize you've just sunk your hard earned $ on a tourist trap.we passed up on a much larger suite with a sleeper sofa and free parking because we wanted to stay somewhere a little more "upscale." This place was a huge let down. Who wants to deal with that on vacay? Wanted to run out and sleep in the car but everyone would have followed my lead and i wouldn't have had room to stretch my legs. There must be robots on mushrooms writing the great reviews that led us to choose this place.
