We are both history buffs. We knew that the charm of the Menger was it's historical value, and not it's appeal as far as a "modern" hotel. It was everything we had hoped for and more... We even had some "unexplainable" experiences. ;)

That we had to leave.
Great value! Right next to the Alamo and in the midst of downtown. We had a two room suite - large sitting area and very large bedroom with king bed. Very spacious and comfortable but also historical charm. Would definitely stay here again!

Walls are not insulated; could hear the guests in the next room like they were in our room, pool was dirty on the surface. It
The history and central location to everything.

Great food, wonderful location and romantic setting. Almost everything within the hotel is historical. The interior garden was a pleasant surprise.

After midnight, I heard young men making loud noises in the park in front of the hotel. I was on the second floor and could clearly see the men and one particularly stood out who was apparently the ringleader. I turned away from the window and was trying to go online (which I was not able to do, incidentally), when the noise outside increased. I went back to the window and believe it or not, the ringleader managed to get on my balcony outside of my room (#2066). I was so flabergasted, I could do nothing. I moved away from the window, making sure it was locked. I regret that I did not call the police. I didn't believe that the hotel would respond. I had already been receiving a lukewarm response from the staff, and prayed that I would be delivered from this experience unharmed. I shall never stay at the Menger again!
The Menger Bar: after the staff began to warm up to me (I was the only black men in the bar) they showed that they could tolerate me.

No free breakfast, but that's to be expected out of an old luxury hotel.
The History of the Hotel speaks for itself. It was awesome to see all the artifacts the hotel has from days past. Very comfortable beds, the room is small yes, but you have to remember how old the hotel is.

Wouldn't say bad experience, however, there was no refrigerator in our room, this is a must for a large hotel of this type, plus the car parking fees were considered to be expensive adding a further $168 to the bill. & $8 for a bottle of water!!!! Come on. Vos , so what, it's water whats so special??

Lack of sound proofing between bedrooms and intermittent wifi.
Proximity to the conference centre and the River Walk area. Faded glory.

Wifi was horriable! In and out all 2 days. Found roaches in the bathroom. Door wouldn't lock. Staff was very loud in the hall way! Staff did not obey the do not disturb sign on the door. They knock to ask if I needed towels!
Great location and price! Loved the pool and the hotel's history!
