The location was great and we wanted to stay in the historic hotel.
We only had one wash cloth when we arrived and the next morning all of the used towels and washcloths were left in the bathroom after cleaning. There were two of us in the room a!d we both drink regular coffee, but there was only one, so we ask for another. When we got the bill we had been charged for it! Then $100 for something and $28 a day for parking the car and we never moved it.
room is small bathroom door wouldn't open from the inside, stuck in there for 20 minutes..should have broke the door down! AC didn't cool worth a damn...hot night.
Had a fabulous stay at the Menger Hotel. The hotel is well located and in walking distance to everything. Staff amazing facilities amazing.
The room and bed was a little small but did not effect our stay at all.
Loved the ambiance of the hotel and especially the location. The staff were very friendly and helpful and always had a smile on their face.
I loved how the staff knew so much about San antonio and the history of the menger. They were very accommodating from when we checked in until we left. The decor was so beautiful and the bar was great!
I guess the walls are pretty thin and the room kind of small but I mean it is a very old hotel so that just kind of ads to the experience!
We were hoping to see ghosts and were happily surprised that they were in our room. Our stay was even better than we expected!
There was nothing that we didn't like!
Everyone was very nice and we felt welcome. Strong water flow in shower!
Loud toilet at night.
Next to the Alamo, room looked over the Alamo site, the 43 ghosts the hotel is said to have, the history of the hotel, Menger bar, the King suit and Mae West suit are worth a visit if they are unoccupied, The Menger Hotel is the centre of San Antonio. Also talk to the hotel historian who has his own desk in the lobby, his name is Ernesto Malacara.
We did not meet any of the ghosts during our four night stay, but this pleased my wife.
I liked that there was a restaurant on the property along with a bar and pool. This hotel is centrally located to everything. The staff was very nice. The room was good. I would stay here again no questions. Loved that we could walk everywhere. The hotel had some great history. Restaurant was very reasonable and had good selections.
The bathroom needed to be updated. Especially the shower. The night staff forgot to give us a wake up call and call a taxi for us. It could of been an issue if I hadn't woken up on my own. We had to rush out to catch an early flight home. I wanted to pay cash for our room when we checked out, but the computers were down so we were forced to put it on our card. We actually couldn't check out at all in the morning and we're told it would process later. I had asked the night before if we could check out then (11:30pm) but was told no. I reiterated that we would be leaving the hotel at 4:45am in the morning but that didn't seem to matter.
Rooms were comfortable and large. Finishes were kinda 60s, but the place was clean and neat. The location was great for walking about. Loved the history of the hotel
Valet parking was a bit hectic. It was Labor Day weekend, so I'll give them that.
I thought continental breakfast was enclosed in the room prize! But plain coffee was in am! It was probably my misunderstanding...earlier visits we had breakfast in room prize.
A truly beautiful hotel and landmark. Location was fabulous. Easy walk to Riverwalk and Alamo. Great view, right in front of Alamo. Staff was very accommodating.
Very expensive valet parking.
smell, old mattresses/ pillows, poor draining shower, loud ghost tours.
While the staff is friendly there really isnt anything exceptional about this hotel. As a historical hotel in SA I expected an experience that really showed off the history of the landmark and intrigued you more about the "rumors".
It was just a boring stay...
Location, staff are good
Price of parking lot, didn't expect
Loved it's history and central location.
Excellent location. Quick access to Riverwalk and to the mall. Quiet.
The room was dirty. Found a used earbud from the bed and a dead cricket on the floor. After showing them at the reception, the room was thoroughly cleaned - felt much better. The old bed headboard was loose and noisy: all the 4 attachment screws were an inch off the wall - not caused by us:)
Accessibility to everything, friendly staff, comfort
We totally love old historic hotels. The Menger is rich in history and intrigue.
A/C in the room did not cool well, we never could get the room to cool off. Despite having it turned down to 65, room never got cooler than 74. The bed was very "squeaky" and not at all comfortable.
We liked the valet parking. Being able to come and go. We also liked how they let Sisters Grimm post tours. Gave us something to do one evening. We also enjoyed looking at the antiques and historical pictures.
Interesting building, historical Proximity to the Alamo Near several parking sites Staff responsive to my request to change room
No breakfast even if highly night rate Had to change room as there was noise coming from pipes and aircon units outsider Bad service at the bar - there was no waitress but 2 people behind the counter could not manage a couple of guests at the table - felt like i was bothering them when i called from the table Was not even asked how was my stay before leaving
The Reception and common areas. The main desk. The historical photographs in the lobby.
The ice making machine next to our room
The bed was super comfortable, the pillows too. That's something I always value wherever I go.
For the price, you'd expect it includes breakfast, it doesn't. I didn't like the pipes in the ceiling, also, hated hearing the neighbor's toilet every time they flushed. They must have heard ours as well. The squeaky floors were creepy (guess that's part of staying at a historic hotel). Wouldn't stay there again, it wasn't a bad hotel, but I prefer modern places.
Your valet staff is incredible. Probably the most helpful people in your hotel.
The location was a short block away from Riverwalk. Beauty and history of hotel and grounds was wonderful. The room and bed were comfortable and clean. Staff was knowledgable and helpful.
Slight musty odor when the fan was turned on; bathroom could use slight touch ups on grout.
