We totally love old historic hotels. The Menger is rich in history and intrigue.
A/C in the room did not cool well, we never could get the room to cool off. Despite having it turned down to 65, room never got cooler than 74. The bed was very "squeaky" and not at all comfortable.
We liked the valet parking. Being able to come and go. We also liked how they let Sisters Grimm post tours. Gave us something to do one evening. We also enjoyed looking at the antiques and historical pictures.
The Reception and common areas. The main desk. The historical photographs in the lobby.
The ice making machine next to our room
The bed was super comfortable, the pillows too. That's something I always value wherever I go.
For the price, you'd expect it includes breakfast, it doesn't. I didn't like the pipes in the ceiling, also, hated hearing the neighbor's toilet every time they flushed. They must have heard ours as well. The squeaky floors were creepy (guess that's part of staying at a historic hotel). Wouldn't stay there again, it wasn't a bad hotel, but I prefer modern places.
Your valet staff is incredible. Probably the most helpful people in your hotel.
The location was a short block away from Riverwalk. Beauty and history of hotel and grounds was wonderful. The room and bed were comfortable and clean. Staff was knowledgable and helpful.
Slight musty odor when the fan was turned on; bathroom could use slight touch ups on grout.
My wife an I were able to see so many sights within walking distance, We will stay at the Menger again!!!
The bathroom was a little dirty, the shower and the toilet, but that is all, the staff was wonderful!!!
Could not be closer to the Alamo. They need to mark the entrance to the parking garage as it will be where you come in at. The river walk is so close. The tour bus is across the street. Traffic around the hotel was very calm and courteous. Very quiet hotel.
Price to park the vehicle. Small bathroom in our room.
Location, excellent restaurant
Shower head needed work
great location, has a lot of character and history - an old hotel well maintained
Since it is an old hotel some amenities are not available. The bath was small and lacked towel racks, older fixtures, etc.
Cost was high
I loved the charming atmosphere and great location. Hotel is renovating rooms, so improvements may be coming
Inadequate air conditioning. Bugs in bathroom. Terrible wi-fi.
The old fashion air and excellent location
The full size bed. And the bed squeaked
Location, gardens and swimming pool
We were very disappointed with our room. The picture of the standard room on Booking is NOT what you get. The room was small and the bed was not a double. To be fair, the measurements are on Booking but I wouldn't expect a 4 star hotel to give you a bed of that size. Upgrade if you have the extra cash, if not look elsewhere. The room is more 3 star than 4 star.
Nice historical nature of the building. Great location.
Lack of supplies to make some coffee in the morning, and only one pot for guests in the lobby area. Rooms were overpriced for the size and comfort. Beds not comfortable. Windows inadequate to the street noise. One male assigned to the Front Desk staff was rude, had to be corrected by a supervisor.
Atmosphere, music, friendly staff, room was nice.
Our showers water pressure was so high it hurt. I feel weird complaining the opposite because of course most hotels its too low! But wow it was too much.
Beautiful architecture & great location.
Awful beds, bathrooms, and valet/parking.
WHEN WE GOT READY TO LEAVE THEY HELP US WITH OUR CAR AND LUGGAGE MOST HOTEL DO NOT DO WHAT THESE PEOPLE DID TO HELP US.
The location and the hotel.
Lack of microwave and refrigerator.
Close to the major viewing areas. Reasonable price for area location. Walking distance to some major attractions.
Rooms little small.
Service was great
Pillows and linen had pilling Pillows were lumpy Didn't have the cowboy game showing onNBC. Had gymnastics instead
Had a wonderful stay here! Enjoyed most all the staff immensely. Sunday brunch was both wonderful and highly affordable for a luxurious brunch. The pool was amazing and of course the historical quality and presentation of the place were every bit what a grand historical hotel should be. They market their history very well. They are still the jewel of San Antonio's hotels.
I was unable to find the place from the side of town I came in from. My phone help was not knowledgeable of the area and after I realized she did not know her way around asked several times to be transferred. She could hear that I was becoming irritated and kept saying, "I'm only trying to help you. Why are you angry with me." I was in Friday night traffic being given both "no directions" in a proper amount of time and the "wrong directions". She was trying to use a map and could give me no instruction without...and she had to go locate the map while I'm driving around. I drove for thirty minutes. When I finally yelled to her to put another person on the line she immediately did. I told the staff person on the line what had happened but I don't think they realized the severity of the circumstances before she finally transferred. I had to yell to get what I needed. I hope this does not impact your decision. This is a genuinely grand hotel but they should know that this new...er person on staff is without common sense and causing them poor public relations at a place what otherwise is devoid of common issues.
Loves the original. Pieces.the bar was great. Had a great time just sitting and talking Its so close to river walk and Alamo .
Not seeing a ghost.
