This is a budget hotel. Parking was easy.
Facility is outdated, and breakfast had nothing without sugar...
Close to Safeway and Stanford Shopping Center, otherwise not much.
The offered "upgrade" when overbooked had no bedside table, lamp, clock radio or coffee maker. People were noisy at poolside past 1:00 a.m. and no one did anything about it. Seemed as if it might be overflow Stanford Univ. student housing that happened to be vacant during the summer. Some El Camino Real and CalTrain noise. We needed a place on short notice and it saved us from having to sleep in the car...
Staff was helpful and friendly. Good customer service. Excellent location. Room was clean.
Facility needs a lot of work.
Proximity to Stanford Hospital very good. Walking distance to nice shopping area and restaurants. Check in clerk was nice.
Very noisy as it is on a busy street and the windows are old and not very sound proofed. Very noisy air conditioning unit. Thin sheets and towels. No washcloths and no body lotion. Tissue box practically empty. Room was very old and depressing. We would not stay here again. With tax our room was $151. for the night. Definitely a poor value!
It was a dump. I moved.
It was dirty and uncomfortable
I did enjoy swimming in the pool, and the guys who work at the front desk are friendly enough.
This place is a bit run down. The furnishings are old and shabby. The sheets are scratchy. Walking on the carpets turned my feet black they were so dirty. This place is a bit cheaper than other hotels in the area, but spend the extra $20 a night and get a decent room.
We loved the proximity to Stanford Hospital and the wonderful staff. The bed was comfortable and, while the room in need of remodeling, it was very clean.
We understood that the property would be closed on July 17th and that the wonderful staff would not be retained for the new hotel when finished. That's too bad. The hotel was very much in need of repair and remodel. But the location and price were definitely right.
Great location, pleasant staff, pool, really clean bathroom!
A little dated, renovation debris left on site.
Motel and room were in very poor condition.
Room was nice, one staff member very nice as well. The man who checked us in.
Price was way out of line
Staff were very courteous and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable.
Location was good.
The hotel looked very little like the pictures. Everything was worn out and dirty. The furniture was mismatched and the mattress was the worst I've ever slept on. The price was double what it should have been. The manager was rude to the staff.
Don't let the somewhat rundown outer appearance deter you. The room was spacious (I had booked one with a kitchenette) and especially: Very clean. As other reviews already mentioned: This hotel spends its money on cleaning, less on its outside appearance. Besides, the staff was very friendly and the hotel is within walking distance from the Menlo Park Caltrain station and a Stanford shuttle stop and Safeway are closeby.
The pool is located right next to the parking lot and doesn't really make you feel like going for a swim.
It's like a motel 6 with a fancier name.
The couple next door made quite a bit of noise.
everything appeared clean, but old and worn. the breakfast was lacking in options.
Could walk to market next door.
No elevator. No room on ground floor. No way to get out of 2nd night's stay. Small hard pillows. Advertised as a KiNG, but had a double bed. No one cares about landscaping or upkeep. Ver skimpy breakfast. Coffee not made until 7:30 am on first morning but sign says 7:am.
Very good customer service (front desk gentleman is very nice and responsible)
The staff was very friendly; went out of the way to meet my wishes. The location was good, and so was wifi access
The price was way too high. The furniture, electric outlets, etc. were substandard. I could not keep the computer plugged without having the light on as well, and had to bend on hands and knees to plug the computer into the only available outlet. The breakfast was not so good; even the meager options were sometimes missing.
Both people I encountered at the front desk were friendly. The location was excellent, a short walk from the Menlo Park CalTrain station as well as a Safeway supermarket and the Stanford Shopping Mall. One of the free Stanford shuttle bus lines has a stop in front of the Safeway.
The room seemed clean overall but the towels were a bit worn with frayed edges and the chairs had stains on the upholstery. There is wifi but it didn't work well from the room.
1-During our stay they were renovating the neighboring room(s). They started working -with literally hammers- very early in the morning. They didn't even notify us about this. 2-As well as the other facilities, furniture etc.. the shower faucet was also pretty old. It broke in the middle of the night!
The price, the pool and the water pressure. The bed was comfortable too.
The room smelled funny.
It is a motel and very basic. They spend their money on keeping it clean, not decorating. Location is downtown Menlo Park two miles from center of Stanford campus. Staff is friendly. Has a pool but did not try it
no door on the bathroom. Train blaring all night. Kept waking me up. Won't stay again.
Very friendly staff
Nothing in particular, Mermaid Inn is good for the price and location. The look could use an upgrade, but that costs money to do.
