At the time of our stay this Inn was a gem nestling down in between all the big hotels and felt homey. - friendly personnel - clean and tidy - quiet - no A/C (environmentally friendly and no humming all day and night long)

    - drinking water contained to much chlorine which made water, coffee, etc taste not so well - no A/C (in our case not important as it wasn't too hot)

Reception staff very helpful in switching us to the ground floor when told we might have trouble getting our luggage up the stairs. Continental breakfast had a good variety. The area is small so tables are shared, encouraging talk & interaction amongst the guests. We got excellent advice on dinner choices from our table companions.

The first staff member on reception was welcoming and helpful. We had an early start whale-watching so would miss the inclusive breakfast and he let us raid supplies early. The second member of staff was a little less friendly. Our room was massive and well equipped.

We had asked for non-feather bedding as I am seriously allergic. Sadly this didn't happen so my asthma made me uncomfortable in the night. There wasn't enough seating space for the inclusive breakfast. People had to share or queue in order to eat.

We were in room 23, a quiet room in the upstairs corner. The owner had decorated the room, and it was indeed unique and tasteful. And huge! Added fridge & coffee-maker an added bonus. Location is very close to the harbour, and a short walk to Cannery Row. Loved every minute of our 3-night stay in Aug 2014.

Neighbours slamming their doors every morning. It's loud! Perhaps some dampening possible?

Location was fantastic. Room spacious, clean and well presented with small shared balcony. Supermarket next door for provisions. Reception staff very helpful and informative on arrival. We had a great stay and would go back.

Breakfast.... Room very small and had to wait for a table. Staff not helpful on the first morning at all and didn't even acknowledge our arrival despite looking confused at what to do. Quality of breakfast also poor... Limited muffins, yoghurt and toast. Could have done better although it wouldn't put us off going back.

We liked the location, the staff, and the size of the room. It is right in the heart of Monterey; close enough to walk to Cannery Row.

They need to update the rooms and add some tables/room to the breakfast area.

Merritt House is ideally located downtown, 2 blocks from Alvarado St. with outstanding restaurants. The wharf is within walking distance and Cannery Row is a 1.2 mile trail. It is on the Path of History. Housekeepers spruced up rooms every day. A fan was provided because it was unseasonally warm, but no windows in rooms with balconies.

We went to the breakfast twice and there were no seats available. There were no plates provided to those who could not find a seat. There were some "to go" paper products to take outside. The bed was comfortable, but squeaked.

Location, staff, continental breakfast all fab!

We liked most things, but needed alternative fans---loud at night. Parking expensive on top of room cost---made it $175 instead of $160---a little steep for this property.

The Merritt was what we were looking for. It was close to the restaurants aquarium, shopping and free transportation. We were on the back rooms above the parking garage and it was quiet. Someone who has bad knees like myself mad it hard to carry luggage upstairs. The rooms were clean and cute but could use a little updating. Overall it worked perfect for all of our group. We wouldn't really recommend going to kitchen for continental breakfast because it was so crowded. Send your husband Dow to bring a tray of food back to room.

Crowded breakfast, one staff member was unprepared . Need a few more items for continental breakfast. Not too many things to complain about.

We left the car parked in your lot, took the Trolley transport to the Aquarium or walked to the Wharf. It was wonderful not having to drive or worry about parking. I enjoyed the common Room in the morning for breakfast and met 2 interesting couples.

The bathroom was in need of updating. Also- when we lit the log in the fireplace, it created so much smoky smell that we opened the balcony door and turned on the fan.
