View was good Breakfast was nice
Room we booked wasn't ready when we arrived at 7.30pm after a long day travelling. Had to wait an hour before it was ready with no complimentary drinks.
A hotel with a stunning view. We were upgraded on arrival to a corner rooms on floors 38 and 39. Both had fantastic views. Breakfast was included which was a real bonus for a New York hotel, with a good selection of hot dishes. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Hotel is approx a 10 min walk from Grand Central Station.
Just to be aware if there is a big gathering at the United Nations building close by you may encounter increased security in and around the hotel as well as possible road closures. hotel. As was the case during our stay.
The room was great, great views and very clean. Breakfast in the Skyline bar great staff. The night receptionist who we met as we left was the only one who wasn't rude, he was great!
90% of the staff were really rude and looked down their noses especially reception. We only booked for the pool which looks fab but was closed, wifi is $12 per item per day and on the 2 occasions we tried the bar it was closed but we could pay down the road! This hotel has a lot of potential but the staff made us miserable and we couldn't wait to leave.
Breakfast in restaurant
Pool was closed, first because UN Assembly and then because of leak. Just a notice on the door of the pool, no excuse from hotel.
Initial communication at reception not so good but resolved with persistance by a manager. Problem with pool being closed for repairs. Disappointed in lack of pool facilities but compensated with an upgraded room with fantastic views. Restaurant staff at Ambassador Grill excellent and breakfast excellent
Standard room didn't have robes. Communication at check in could have been better butt fortunately a shift manager called melvita listened to me and saved the day. Snacks in skyline lounge mostly unsatisfactory and advertised cocktails from 5pm to 7 pm did not exist
- the view from the 40th floor is astounding - good bed
- staff extremely cold when you do not present yourself as a diplomat ready to tip lavishly - noisy aircon - swimming pool closed - poor and expensive breakfast - skeletal minibar
My 2nd time here..beautiful, clean, BEST VIEW EVER!!! Very big room compared to other NYC hotels i have stayed.
Complimentary breakfast too basic.
Managers at the hotel did not honer actual confirmed booking as hotel was hosting a late conference. Changed our room (with four weeks prior notice) to an inferior and outdated room with less facilities (eg wi fi) from the original East tower. Manager on duty and general manager were wholly unhelpful or interested in our complaints and these will be escalated to the company by way of separate letter from us. We would not recommend this hotel.
Room, views location
With the UN in town we were excluded from the Skyline and its facilities as they were taken over by the Indonesian delegation, Ok at breakfast , as we were directed to the ambassador Grill but there was NO aLternative in the evening for snacks and drinks which was VERY DISSAPOINTING.
- access to Club room at 30th floor where we could eat breakfast with a panoramatic view of the city - In the same room, light snacks and drinks were served as of 5 pm - for NY, good size of a room - good location
- for the price we paid, I expected a room with a view over Manhattan (which I specifically asked for), we were looking at Queens - nice, but very expensive
Staff is very friendly and nice view from the room. Also I like Skyline Club for evening cocktail - we could very relax
the fact that I could not even get on the one and only elevator that they had working. There was a UN convention while I was staying. There was wall to wall security guards and sniffer dogs. The delegates had top priority on the elevators. No one else could get on. At one point I had to use the service elevator. The one and only time I could get on the elevator, I had to squeeze on with the delegates. It was very uncomfortable to say the least. When I checked out, they gave me some else's bill that totaled 654 dollars. My bill was only 384 dollars. The buffet was a rip off. The food was terrible and it cost 32 dollars per person. My 7 year old only had a tiny bagel and orange juice. They charged me 32 dollars. I told them what she ate and then they charged me 6.50 for the tiny bagel and 6.50 for a glass of orange juice. I will never ever stay there again. What a rip off!!
Nice modern rooms in the west tower. Very clean rooms and beautiful view of the empire state. Nespresso machine is life saving too.
Concierge was useless - asked her a few things which she basically dismissed or gave us the wrong information. Not at all helpful. On arrival we checked in and were told to drop our bags at the storage area. We stood for a while and no one came near us to help although staff were in the vicinity. Bar does not open until 5pm but to be honest our only visit to the bar made us not want to go again. Dated, lifeless, total lack of ambiance / atmosphere. Total bill not worth it.
Our room had post cards views, and the location was within walking distance of most midtown/central park touristic sites.
The view & the fitness center.
A little far from the center. Except, of course, for UN creatures ;-)
Walking distance of Empire State Building and Grand Central Station
The hotel is too dark Not a bad location, but not the best
Very helpful staff provided my father with a wheelchair accessible room and shower.
The hotel was very clean and up to date. All of the staff was courteous and professional. Our room had a great view of the river. It was extremely clean and the bed was very comfortable. I feel that this hotel deserves it's 5 star rating. We will stay here again when visiting the cuty
THE CLEANING DEPT WERE AMAZING. COMFORTABLE ROOMS.
FRONT DOOR MEN / VALEGUYS. ALSO POOR SERVICE FROM THE LUGGAGE PEOPLE.
location and views from the room
a bug in the room at night, and swimming pool not accessible because always closed when needed.
Rooms in renovated West wing very nice and comfortable
Pool needs renovation
Only the people at the entrance, handling luggage and the cleaners have shown courtaisie and professionalism. The location is the hotel's main asset
The long time spend at the front desk even for minor request. There is a need to have more people. Found bad the way they interact with clients sometimes without courtesy
Clean room with very comfortable beds and great city views.
Poor sound insulation between rooms as a result of a door in the adjoining wall resulting in disturbed sleep every night. Although room rate was including breakfast this was limited in variety... any hot breakfast was extra. The level of staffing was not good: our swipe card for the skyline lounge did not work and despite knocking on the door and then returning to our room to phone through no-one answered so had to contact the duty manager. The "complementary cocktails and au d'oeuvres" were cheese and wine. There was no-one on reception at the health club so had no padlocks for the lockers and had to search for towels. Poor security would allow easy access to these from the street. The cups and tea making facilitates in the room were only replenished once in 5 days The hotel did not allow us back to use facilities of the complementary skyline lounge after we had checked out although our departure was not until the evening. The hotel did not feel like a 5 star experience and did not live up to the expectations from the great marketing photos on the website.
The room as newly refurbished and clean.
The staff at reception were short tempered. There were sparse amenities for a five star hotel. Room service was not available 24 hours. No concierge. No Security - anyone could access the hotel. Decor in entrance and hallways was dismal.
