I liked the price and location relative to China Town and the Financial District; both within walking distance. The room was small but very quiet. The bed was like sleeping on a brick, and the towels were worn, even to the point of being ripped. The toilet paper was like sandpaper quality.

It's near to the downtown, you can everything reach by walk, friendly staff, tasty breakfast. He had always problems with the heating, the rooms are a little bit dark, but when you want to just sleep in it, than it isn't a problem :)

Very bad hotel. The room was dirty and stinky! Rough and dangerous neigbourhood. For the breakfast, hotel offers coffee/tea and cookies.

All the basics were well covered in an old, but updated hotel at 1/4th or less of the cost of neighboring hotels in a prime location 6 blocks from Union Square.

Milthia is a boutique hotel in an older building. The room was basic but very clean and the daily maid service kept it that way. The bathroom was modernized and the whole room freshly painted. It is in a mixed neighborhood, with fancy boutique hotels on the same street but a scruffy bar there as well. The neighborhood seemed safe (and I walked back after midnight a couple of times). My room was on the 4th floor and in the back. It was one of the quietest rooms I've ever had in a big city. The location is about 2/3 mile from Union Square, so reasonably convenient, and also near city bus routes. Wifi was free and usually very fast. The price of the room was amazingly good considering the location. There is no view of the city. My window overlooked an alley between buildings, but they is why is was quiet. The entrance is 8 steps up from the street, so not accessible for someone with a handicap. The elevator was about 100 years old! It is a steel 'birdcage' with a manually operated, sliding inner door. It was actually quite a conversation piece. The TV was just a little newer, but I wasn't there to sit and watch it. Breakfast was coffee with mini-muffins and danishes if you got there before they were gone. You had to take it back to your room or eat it standing by the office. The danishes were good.

For the price of staying in such good location, is a very nice alternative for a low-budget trip. Just two blocks from Union Square. I didn't expect too much comfort at this hotel. Is fair for the price. But the room is too small even for a couple with some luggage. But if you need a low-budget hotel in a very good location, is an awesome alternative.

The location and price were the only pluses I would give this hotel. The receptionist was a complete nightmare. He actually yelled at me when I asked him to make me another key because we lost ours. He also scolded my other friend for coming back to the hotel "too drunk". Totally unacceptable. He is obviously related to the owners in some way.

This was a lot cheaper to stay in than many hotels in the area, yet the room was comfortable enough. It was conveniently located, Buses 2, 3 and 29 going right past, saving the climb up the steep hill. Excellent local stores and coffee shops nearby. The manager was helpful and arranged transportation to the airport. Handy for Nob Hill, Chinatown and downtown. 'Breakfast' was very minimal - and some days nothing there at all.

Staff are really helpful and friendly. It has a great location to city center and fine neighborhood. Cleaning lady has a little bit hurry, she can actually bump in your room, but she only want to do her work and make your room clean. I had a private bath, it was new and clean definitely best thing in the hotel. And don't walk to hotel other then Sutter Street. First go up to Sutter than start walking. Well, the room is bad decorated and very old stuff in it. Room (carpet) smells a little bit but all the corridors (carpets) smell really bad and smell starts from the entrance. The walls are very very tin, you can actually hear people are walking on top of you or on your next room. Bed was old and blanket had a several hole on it. If i come to city next time, i will definitely NOT stay on that hotel. But if you don't care about the room or people walk on top of you is not a problem. Then you can stay there, really cheap hotel and staff are very friendly. But they have to redecorate rooms, corridors and buy new stuff. (bed, carpet, tv, lamp, door, desk, chairs etc.)
