The staff (Tim) were great. Location was impossible to beat, centrally located to EVERYTHING. Very quiet in our room. One of the only places in San Francisco that had enough beds for my family without breaking the bank. It is an older hotel, but maintained. It was safe and clean and very comfortable. Rooms are not huge, but we didn't go there to stay in our room, so if you plan on actually venturing out into the city it is PERFECT.
Weird smell, but that could be because it was rainy and damp outside. It wasn't horrible. Nothing a little Febreze couldn't handle. :-)
location and service
Great bathroom, clean room though a bit shabby. I loved having a fridge and microwave in my room, used both. Great wifi, very quiet. I love old houses and hotels, especially the old elevator with the gate, reminded me of the building I grew up in.
Hard to sleep when you hear your neibors entire conversations. Hot even w fan on and windows open. Location and price okay based on area
THEY HAVE A COZY ROOM, A CLEAN BATHROOM, AND HAVE A MICROWAVE, AND FRIDGE, THE CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST IS GOOD AND FRESH, AND THE SERVICE THE TIMES I CONTACT THEM WERE REALLY NICE AND HELPFUL. THE WI-FI IS ALSO A PLUS FRO THIS HOTEL
THE WINDOWS BEHIND THE CURTAINS WERE DUSTY, AND THE TV ONLY HAVE LIKE 7 CHANNELS YOU CAN WATCH.
I paid more because of the "available" parking and because of the breakfast. The first thing that the receptionist said me when I was doing the check in was "we don't have breakfast, but we offer to our clients some coffee and tea for free". Excuse me, I paid it you are not giving me anything for free. The installations are TOO old. We were three, and we didn't have enough space in the room. Sincerely, I wouldn't pay more than $80 per night for sleep there, and I paid more than $200. In Union Square there are motels of that price with the same conditions.
Dirty windows, toilet seat needs replacing, for 170 usd, not acceptable. If this was free accommodation whilst doing voluntary work in a third world country, okay
Three floors, more than thirty rooms and just ONE BATHROOM, with almost no maintenance and no paper, and just ONE SHOWER ROOM. The shower was unreasonably small, too. We are quite experienced travelers, and this place was the worst experience ever
Staff weren't very helpful when we had complaints about noise. They advised we call them every time it got noisey. We had no phone in the room. Hotel very unclean. Shower room is tiny. If you are on the larger size you will struggle. Shower room is also very unclean. Not value for money at all. Location not safe as full of homeless people.
Clean rooms, nice shower/bathroom, good wifi, very friendly and helpful staff and very well located. All in all I'd recommend it as a great budget hotel
Hallway had a very bad smell (I'm being fussy here though).
The minimum was there.
Few efforts required to improve breakfast a bit more; cleanliness could have been better as well as other facilities (elevator, receptionist's help, etc).
It's quite close to city center, and well served by public transportation. In 30 minutes you can go to everywhere in San Francisco. It's very basic, but safe and clean. One star is the right classification
Breakfast must be consumed standing up at reception and only consists of Tea, Coffee and muffins.
Location was central to activities. It was possible to walk most places or take cabs for a reasonable price.
Room size was small - just a bed and bathroom with limited walking space around the bed, no real room for luggage. Price - for the accommodations provided, it is overpriced Local area is dirty and smells bad
The window of the room overlooked a vacant lot.
The Hotel is walking distance from most sites.
According to the booking we should have received a room for four. Because they overbooked, we got a room with a double bed and two matresses were laid on the floor, which was not very clean!
Fast internet. Good location
Very worn furniture. Unclean and moldy room.
I had a very positive experience. Of course you have to relate the comfort to the low price. Room Nr. 401: Big room (no problem with storing two large suitcases) with a small table perfect for working, large closet and equiped for ironing. Staff was extremly helpful. The location is good as on Sutter, where there are no homeless people lying around, it's also very close to the art university buildings with nice restaurants and coffeeshops. Only 7 min walk to the BART (Civic) (if you prefer to stay right next to the BART station you would have to deal with the homeless). Not too noisy if you are used to the usual city noise. If not, you shouldn't stay in the area.
More or less safe area, sometimes some drunks shout around (I'm a girl travelling alone). Internet was at times veeeeeery slow.
Reasonable price. Nice staff.
Danegerous neigborhood, poor brekfast, only sweet cakes. I wouldn't come back there again
Ok for price.
breakfast to go
We got rooms with private bathrooms, which also included a huge piece of furniture blocking the window, just to say the room has a TV (as old as the building). It also included breakfast, which consisted of burnt coffee and mini muffins, all "served" on a tiny table next to the elevator. There is no place to stand at the reception, and no option for two beds. They wanted to charge us for a rollout bed if we did not want to share a full sized bed.... This hotel is overpriced and needs to be updated.
Ok if you look for a fair place to sleep in excellent location, but hotel offers no comfort and is kind if shabby
laundry and supermarket next door. close to cable car in California St. obviously have upgraded in the last year. breakfast was just served at a cart near reception but was ok rooms were serviced daily old fashioned lift
was not worth the money however.
We arrived early, way before check in and the hotel was able to get us into a room. Quiet neighborhood. Convenient market a couple doors down.
I think there was blood on the shower curtain. They seemed a bit bothered by me asking for a 30 min late check out.
