Perfect and beautiful

Mohonk Mountain House is a favorite destination for my family. We have come here many happy times, and also during stressful periods, such as a few days before a scheduled heart surgery for one of my sons (a young adult). Many holiday locations don't actually facilitate family interaction. Sometimes one sees parents screaming at children (such as at many theme parks I have visited). We have been coming to MMH regularly for twenty years, since my kids were toddlers, and now two of them are in college, and we have always enjoyed our visits there no matter my sons' ages. The lake swims, hikes, snow shoe adventures, etc. all facilitate stress free family interaction and enjoyment - no screaming parents, and absolutely everyone seems happy there. There are no TVs in bedrooms. I don't know how the wifi is there because I enjoy getting away from screens while at Mohonk. I find it a wonderful, almost magical place, and I hope it never changes.
Sometimes it is full and we can't find the number of rooms needed for my fairly large family group. We usually need to book quite far in advance.

Setting, hotel stature from the outside
Rooms desperately need updating. They claim they are trying to keep it authentic, but they'd be better served to incorporate some new and/or more tasteful choices. The physical property is decaying and needs paint - the bathrooms are awful, the "formal dining room" is a joke. Approached via a cheap dropped ceiling and the. Seated in metal and vin chairs . . Such potential and the owners scrimping and question taste makes the guest experience really suffer.
I always enjoy coming to Mohonk. True, it's disappointing to come in the spring or fall from NYC when your location is usually more wintry than ours--I always forget this. I love the lack of tv, etc. in the rooms
So very expensive. The end of the "kids free"period in our kids' lives made our visits fewer and shorter. My daughter was upset about the new system for buffet service, with staff serving rather than self-service. I think it's good, a way to prevent waste, but there weren't quite enough staff when we ate lunch yesterday so long lines formed for ordinary foods like salad. We had a room in the spa wing and it was the smallest we've ever had.
Location and spa facilities are terrific. The buildings are lovely and architecturally intriguing, The staff is first class.
The food is very uneven. Room service breakfast was cold. Coffee is poor. The meals are OK, but nowhere near what they should be. Which leads me to our biggest beef--the price of everything is way too high. With just a few spa extras, we dropped $2100 for just two nights. That's a lot of coin.
The staff was very friendly and the spa was great
Our room had door to balcony and the wind came through so bad I took toilet paper and credit card to seal door , they charge 18 % on everything including room I think 80 per day tip on room is over the top ,I also think that having to pay 25 per person to use jacuzzi is not right .
It was perfect. Who knew a place like this was so close to home! We will be back.
location many activities
price beverages should be all inclusive
The staff were superb. Attentive, helpful, and knowledgable. The food was excellent. The activities were diverse and outdoorsy. The setting is beyond compare.
We've been to Mohonk Mountain house twice. It's a magical place full of beauty and history. The setting is relaxed yet so elegant and the staff is friendly and attentive. The meals are included and the food is amazing. The hiking trails and grounds are beautiful and well kept.
Its a bit pricey, but it does include excellent meals. Other than that, no complaints about anything.
