Looking over San Francisco's SoMa area, moments from top downtown sights including Union Square, this hotel has on-site spa services and modern in-room amenities.
Score from 400 reviews Excellent
Located a 2-minute walk from Union Square and a classic Cable Car stop, this San Francisco hotel is in the heart of downtown San Francisco's shops, galleries and restaurants.
Score from 524 reviews Very good
Fabulous room, attention to detail and spotless. Great front of house staff and the fantastic evening wine hour, which as a solo traveller was a time when you could chat and meet fellow travellers/tourists. The location couldn't be better, I got the BART from the airport and was able to easily walk to the hotel. I would strongly recommend this hotel.
Construction noise from remodel of restaurant next door.
The hotel was good and The location exelent they have complementar y bikes that we enjoyed a lot.
We were overwhelmed by the kindness of all the staff at the Kimpton in SF, particularly Jonathan at the front desk. A fantastic hotel and I look forward to returning in the near future! This boutique hotel ticks ALL the boxes. Thank you!!
Location of the hotel is about a block away from the tenderloin district, which is considered a dangerous area of the city. The hostess at one of the restaurants warned us to stay away from the area.
Hotel staff was friendly and helpful!
Construction in the restaurant was loud during the day.
Complimentary bikes Spacious room Location
No restaurant No bar No warning about either of the above. Mean portion control on complimentary breakfast.
The Staff! Friendly and efficient. The location, the room, everything.
Wine hour was nice
Windows dirty Bathroom had mold on shower tile
We liked the facilities and the location
We have arrived to hotel late due to flight delay for 6 hours. We expected to have a proper rest. However, when we arrived, they told us that there is a problem with a room. I booked hotel in May, and only for two nights, but they still had to move us to a nearby hotel for one night and then come back the next morning. Who wants to do that? We couldnt unpack, or relax. The other hotel was not nice and felt damp... The next moring we returned to hotel, but our experience there was already ruined. It was obvious they overbooked and gave our room to someone else... They have returned the money for that night stay at the other hotel, however it was not the point. We were travelling a lot and were looking forward to have couple of nights in one hotel. Also breakfast - you get one pastry per person? That was it! No healthy option, except an apple... If you want a hotel for the price you pay, this is not the hotel... And we have travelled the world.
I loved the whimsical decoration the hotel offered. It made you feel like you were in a grown up and sophisticated version of Alice in wonderland. It just made you feel happy. Loved it and I'd definitely come back again!!
From the reception to the concierge, the valet to the room the stay was both very pleasant and comfortable. Highly rate this location as a stay close to the wharf or Union
What's not to like? Terrific location, attentive staff, stylish, clean, beautiful.
The restaurant and bar were closed for renovations. Breakfast was a paltry coffee and pastry. San Francisco prices were off the hook - but the Monaco came in below the going rates.
When we arrived they had put a bottle of fizz in our room on ice with a lovely handwritten note congratulating us on our marriage. Nothing was too much trouble.
Very close to Union Square, convenient to take the city tour.
Parking fee is very expensive. Our SUV (Chev Suburban) was charged 67 USD plus 9 USD tax. Worse thing is we got the car, and found out tire was punched at side. We had to change to spare tire that day, and later buy a new tire to replace it.
Great location to stores, union sq, theatre district.
The ongoing building work. My room would literally shake from 9am until evening. No rest if like me you had jet lag.
Good deals Location Excellent staff
Was quite noisy because of street work
The accommodations were roomy, the location was perfect (close to Union Square, trolley stops, MUNI etc. Coffee and juice in the morning. Continental breakfast. Décor was cute. Staff was very helpful.
When we booked we did not know that the restaurant would be closed due to remodeling. So when we checked in it was noisy. Noise was kept to day time hours 9-5. Continental breakfast, was pastries and fruit, you were provided ticket and you were able to select 1 pastry and 1 fruit.
We had the pleasure of staying at the Hotel Monaco the last week of July. It was our first visit to San Francisco and we were there to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. This was our second stay at a Kimpton Hotel this summer (The Angler's Miami Beach is the other) and once again we could not have been happier with our choice. The hotel itself is a beautiful older building that is being very well maintained and has some really stunning details, especially the living room, main staircase and central lobby ceiling. The hotel is in a great location just two blocks from Union Square and within walking distance of Chinatown. What really sets the Monaco, and apparently Kimpton Hotels in general, apart is the staff. Everyone, without exception, and regardless of position, was so incredibly welcoming, friendly and professional that virtually every other hotel we've stayed at pales in comparison. Once we'd checked-in we were escorted to our room by Jackson Best who gave us a great overview of the hotel and the general area around Union Square. In the room we were surprised, and so pleased, to see a very thoughtful gift that Johnathan had placed there for our anniversary!! Throughout our stay Jackson became an invaluable source of information and we came to depend on he and Ethan's ability to pick amazing restaurants. One evening we were at a loss as to where we'd eat. Mentioned this to Jackson on our way to the afternoon wine tasting and on our return to our room found seven full menus in a folder with a handwritten note of explanation!!! Sadly Jackson doesn't work every day but we soon came to count on Ethan, James and Mose for the same level of incredibly thoughtful and attentive service. On our last evening in town James went especially out of his way to make it a special night. I know I'm leaving many names out, and for that I apologize, but we can't thank all of you enough for helping to make our 30th such a wonderful experience.
Our hall way should have been vacuumed at least every few days but wasn't.
Dining room closed for renovations
The staff was wonderful and helpful. Wine and cheese reception is a nice touch. Lobby is a very comfortable place with plush chairs and a fireplace. Within walking distance to Union Square
The hotel was at the edge of a not so desirable area. Fisherman's wharf area was a much better area.
I liked the bars and restaurants close to the hotel, but these were in the Tenderloin. Hotel was clean with a lot of amenities, but you had to ask for the spa and free internet. Both were good once you found them. The nightly wine reception was nice. Great common areas.
The brunch required tickets. They were dogmatic about the only two pastry a person. I expected better quality at this caliber of hotel. The staff were pleasant, but kind of fake friendly. The location was really not in Union Square, but more at the edge of the Tenderloin. The hotel bar is presently closed.
Great location, but scary if you're arriving late at night.
Extremely overpriced for what it offers. Parking at over 50 dollars a day is twice as much as private parking in the area, and since we've arrived at 2am, we had no alternative but leaving the car to vallet.
The staff was fantastic. They were friendly and always welcomed you back after your day. They were knowledgable and their recomendations were spot on. The lobby is beautiful!
