When we arrived they had put a bottle of fizz in our room on ice with a lovely handwritten note congratulating us on our marriage. Nothing was too much trouble.
Great location to stores, union sq, theatre district.
The ongoing building work. My room would literally shake from 9am until evening. No rest if like me you had jet lag.
Good deals Location Excellent staff
Was quite noisy because of street work
The staff was wonderful and helpful. Wine and cheese reception is a nice touch. Lobby is a very comfortable place with plush chairs and a fireplace. Within walking distance to Union Square
The hotel was at the edge of a not so desirable area. Fisherman's wharf area was a much better area.
The staff was fantastic. They were friendly and always welcomed you back after your day. They were knowledgable and their recomendations were spot on. The lobby is beautiful!
More modern hotels in the surroundings
The location is outright wonderful. The staff are also very welcoming, always cheerful and helpful.
Noise in my room would start suddenly and quite randomly. Each episode was short but annoying. The lobby of the hotel was also under partial renovation which did not add to the appeal.
Loved the decor
Although appreciated quiet of room away from lifts and overlooking inner courtyard, could hear neighbors through room wall
Customer service Boutique feeling
Overall staff excellent, very pleasant and accommondating, hotel room quite and bed very comfortable...
Walking distance to Union Square. Top quality service in terms of staff and cleanliness. Standard size room and bathroom. Liked the design very much.
Lobby is rather dark but this is part of their design I guess.
Wine tastings in the afternoon in lounge. Beautiful modern style rooms. Nice bar Restaurant
Location is not so bad.
Lack of towels in the room - for three people we were given only two. Lady receptionist on our arrival was very unpleasant and unhelpful. Complementary breakfast was nice of the hotel but actually was very poor choice so we even didn't bother on the second/ third day of stay. No chance we'll be back.
The location was convenient for the centre of town - but the Tenderloin did edge in during the evening, which wasn't too great. The rooms were lovely, tasteful and well-maintained. The spa was small but perfectly formed!
The bar was in need of some attention - but it is apparently due for renovation, which would be a big plus. Depending on what you're after from the city, you might not love the location.
Location and decor. The bed was super comfortable and my room was really quiet despite it's location in the city centre. The reception staff and concierge were really friendly and helpful.
You need to order breakfast a la carte in the Grand Cafe which is part of the hotel. Apart from one very nice waiter, I found the staff offhand to the point of rude, which marred the experience of the hotel in general. However I understand that the Grand Cafe is closing down so perhaps that's why. I recommend Lori's Diner round the corner for a proper American breakfast. I was surprised to notice a tiny amount of dust on the top of some items in the room such as table lamp and ice bucket. Clearly areas that are not often looked at or touched but I still noticed it so just something for the cleaning staff to pay attention to.
The room, guest services, and accommodations were amazing
The location was a little crowded
5 min walk from Union Square, shopping heaven, transport hub and tourist attraction, you cannot choose a better location. The hotel is luxurious, rooms are good size and have everything you should desire. What I have to emphasize is the staff, exceptionally friendly, proactive and efficient. Practically no waiting time although the hotel is very busy. They also offer complimentary (and good quality) bicycles. They are also providing tea, lemonade, wine at happy hour, all these for free. If you ask for something they do not have, they will get it for you. Next time in San Francisco I will definitely stay in the same hotel.
I did not find the Grand Caffe restaurant a real value for money.
Everyone on the staff we interacted with was extremely helpful. Our room faced the main street but was very quiet. The hotel and room décor was fun and we appreciated that it was not your standard hotel décor. The bar was comfortable, good service, and had tasty appetizers.
We had one breakfast at the restaurant and it was just so so. The restaurant was not crowded yet our order came out wrong. Neither one of us really enjoyed our eggs.
The rooms were beautifully decorated. Staff were very polite. Location was perfect- walking distance to Union square. Very chic hotel.
Limited bench space in the bathroom.
We were given a room next to the elevators, the porter said there was virtually no noise from it, which was not the case. I booked this room almost 2 years in advance, should have had priority for a better room. Room rates have drastically increased.
Staff Décor service location ammenities
The location was great - within walking distance to Union Square which was where we wanted to be and very convenient to get to. The decor was modern and love the concept that it's a pet friendly hotel without the pet smells! Some of the staff were welcoming and friendly such as Tim the bellman at conciege - he gave us good suggestions for dinner on our first night. The guy at reception who had a beard and wore a suit (sorry forgot his name) offered to book us the shuttle and print out boarding passes without asking. That was appreciated.
"style over substance" - it's often the little things that matter - the room they put us in was a twin room initially. We had to wait a while before conciege came to take us to a queen sized room which was tiny and facing an industrial air vent - they obviously ran out of decent queen sized rooms. We ended squishing onto one of twin beds but enjoying more space then discovered we had to ask for basic ameneties such as a tooth brush and kettle for hot water (they only had a coffee maker). My boyfriend went down to reception to ask if they had stamps for the postcards we wanted to send. The guy at reception made a lot of excuses about not knowing how much it would cost and sent him over to Wallgreens (which was closed at the time). We didn't expect this compared to the Hilton Santa Clara and at the airport (which is where we tried to find the stamps following the Monaco fiasco) where the staff offered to post them complimentary. We came back to the room after breakfast on our second day, just to drop off a few things and to change for the rest of the day. Housekeeping were there when we arrived. Instead of offering to step out temporarily while we used our room, the lady abruptly asked us to come back which wasn't convenient given we only needed to use the room for 10 mins before going out for the day. We were taken aback by the request and found it quite rude. It was fine after we politely asked her if we could just use the room for 10 mins but we didn't expect that from such a luxury hotel, maybe a 3 star but not 4+ star hotel. As what we thought is customary in US, we decided to give her a tip to thank her for tidying our room on our way back out having made her wait outside for 10 mins. Instead of thanking us she just said "ok-ok" and her friend had to remind her to thank us for it....we wished we didn't bother. The hotel offers guests the luxury of having a goldfish in their room if they missed their pet.
Great location, big enough room, very clean, very comfortable
Poor in-room and hotel facilities considering its 4* category, not 100% value for money
The location is great, and the staff is really nice.
