The Monterey Fireplace Inn  

Nothing. Well, it is an economical place with a quite nice exterior.

Carpet was ultra filthy. You could see piles of dust on the floor near the bed. The room smelled like a mix of rancid socks and cockroaches. The walls seemed so hollow that the sound of every movement on the adjacent room seemed amplified. I did not complain because the extent of the filth caused me to think that other would be equally as filthy and stink or perhaps worse. This was definetley a terrible experience. Not one that I will EVER repeat.

The room had a fireplace in it. The sheets were clean.

The carpets smelled of urine. The room itself smelled of stale cigarettes. The beds comforter had cigarette holes in it(non-smoking room). The bathtub smelled of urine. The shower was non-functioning, as in, the water did not come out of the shower head. Only the faucet. The room we were given was room 14 and the room before it was room 12. Were we in room 13 all along? There were two pillows on the bed that were positioned on one side of the mattress as if to prop oneself up while lounging. Was someone lounging in our room prior to our arrival?

No real cups only plastic. Maybe need a few extra pillows. Too far to walk to monterey waterfront.

It was quiet, the fireplace was cute and it was a decent price for the area. We weren't bothered super early by a eager house keeper as well.

The room smelled way too strong like cleaning products or room spray. Not sure which but had to leave the door open. The bathroom wasn't that clean and the sink didn't drain. The bed was super uncomfortable. The bathroom had a tiny window for ventilation, so the ceiling was starting to mold and when we showered, the whole room got sticky and stuffy from lack of air. Again, opening windows and door to air out.

Parking right outside the room, had a comfortable sleep.

The breakfast was abyssmal....some average coffee, some sour juice (which I threw out) and some kind of cake chopped into pieces which I didn't bother with. I had stayed in San Simeon the previous night at and even cheaper rate and that was positively palatial compared to this.

The bed size, fireplace (couldn't figure out how to turn on), the cable, the parking and the price.

The operator did not answer the phones at in the early early morning and did not awake us for my wake up call. Was very upset because we really wanted to see the sun rise. Also that the land lord checked the room directly in front of us. They could've waited til after we had vacated the property.

The manager was very helpful with my request of changing rooms for a single bed and for assistance with tv's remote.

The place was not at all what was stated in the internet review!

Price was good, the people working were friendly enough, location was great - a few little places to eat and cvs pharmacy in walking distance, as well as bus stops, etc. If you're on a budget, stay here!

Stayed in winter - fireplace is not an actual fireplace and doesn't warm up the room, and their heating does not work. Stains on floor and the shower was putrid. There were chips out of the ceramic toilet and out of the bath. The shower is honestly just a socket. Walls are paper thin too - woke up several times thinking someone was in our room walking around when really it was a neighbor in their hotel room not even being that noisy. So yes, noisy, cold and you can't get a decent clean... But if you're a traveler, it's cheaper split between two people than staying in any hostel in Monterey!

Rooms are outdated and are not well maintained. This hotel could be great if they upgraded the beds, tv, carpets,paint,showers,lights and wash the window screens. The door could use a face lift.

The price is great and the comfort was excellent. Staff was very friendly. Had a fireplace and a king size bed. Nice room, great value!

It was a clean and extremely affordable place to stay. They did have a fireplace, which was fun to use at night when it was a little chilly. Stayed here two nights without issue. Free breakfast of fresh muffins was nice. Location is easy enough, only about 10 minutes to downtown Monterey. I would easily stay here again if I was in the area. The price is definitely right!

The bed wasn't the most comfortable, but it worked. The minifridge had a broken thermostat, so it froze most of our drinks.

Ever since my stay at the Monterey Fireplace Inn, I had my credit card hacked and has been used in Sherman Oaks. Maybe a lack of security at this location.

Very small rooms, breakfast is a joke, housekeeping ruined one of my shirts.

Dirty room. Phone, tv, toilet flush all did not work until fixed. Breakfast abysmal - not worth bothering about, worst of a 22 day trip, and most expensive hotel on trip.

Too expensive for that hotel :-/ I think the take advantage those days are the motogp at Laguna Seca. I understand it is an important event but it is too much money for 4 or 5 days. For the same money in Los Angeles I stay more days in 5 star hotel

The management was very friendly and the room was clean.

The Inn was showcased as a bed and breakfast. I don't consider a 12-cup coffee carafe with packaged creamer and a tupperware container of prebought muffins sliced in quarters a breakfast!! & it was served in the office space (approx 3ftx4ft)!! B&B's are booked for the convenience of having breakfast included in the price. We had to go out for breakfast every morning. The room was advertised as a spacious room with a fireplace. The fireplace was so close to the bed I thought if I turned it on I would start the bed on fire. The small refrigerator with a microwave on top of it was blocking the side of the bed. If anyone was overweight they would have a hard time accessing the side of the bed and bathroom. The shower nozzle looked like a garden hose and the spray was unpredictable. the towels felt like sandpaper. There was no place except the bed to put your suitcase to pack/unpack; no luggage rack in the room. The only chair was stuffed in a corner under the clothes rack, so if you hung anything up, you couldn't use the chair. Very overpriced and almost to the point of false advertising of being a B&B. I can't answer question #2 regarding how to describe the Inn, as it was only adequate, a place to sleep overnight and way overpriced. I feel sorry for anyone who booked this as a romantic weekend looking forward to a B&B atmsophere.
