Good blackout curtains. Bed was comfortable. Not too far from the city center. Tram goes right by the motel, so easy to get into city without a car. It was clean. I had Room #1. The room had a musty smell at first, but I got used to it after being in the room for a while. The tram can be noisy when it goes by, but I got used to that and it didn't really affect my sleep. Very small sink in the bathroom.

Spacious accomodations and good kitchenette. Was unable to control the temperature of the room and it didn't heat up properly. Was cold the entire stay - the filter on the heater was filthy - I had to clean it but still didn't work right. Parking was to tight.

The rooms were clean. The location was very convenient for our plans. One of the rooms we stayed in had a door that didn't easily latch.

Nothing. This place was horrible. I would never stay there again. I ended up checking out two days early. Do not stay here. The worst management I have ever experienced. The staff was very rude and not helpful at all.

You can count on a friendly smile each day from the owner or other family members. The staff that clean the rooms were also very friendly and courteous.

The room was spotless, safe, and quiet (I never heard the tram across the street during the night). The fully fitted kitchen was a nice extra. Location was good for an early morning jog through an interesting neighborhood. Also convenient to expressway on/off into or out of the city, and likewise for nearby tram stop. We will gladly return on our next trip to Portland!

Short drive to the trendy area of Alberta Ave. Easy on/off from the interstate. Clean room. Comfortable. Free parking. There is public transit nearby if you need it. Don't be put off by the immediate neighborhood - we did not have any problems and felt safe the whole time. It is a bit remote from downtown but... that is why its a good fit for the budget minded. Much less expensive.

We chose the Monticello for its location (walking distance to Mississippi Avenue shops and food) and were agreeably surprised at the great condition and spaciousness of the rooms (big enough to fit our rented bikes, a must in pdx!). Also, the friendly team were very helpful in accommodating our booking changes and even helped with arranging taxi to the airport. I warmly recommend the Monticello to anyone looking for a solid low frills place.

It was clean, and the people were very nice. It had a full kitchen, but no cooking utensils, (pots and pans, etc.) which we thought was odd. It had most of the basics ( dishes, flatware, glasses, etc.), We would have preferred to cook and not go out to eat, but we ended up going out. Also, several of the lamps had burned out light bulbs. There was no outlet in the bathroom to plug in a hair dryer. Other than that it was acceptable. Thank you for asking us to share our experience. Even with these drawbacks, if the need arose, we would probably stay there again.

Management was extremely welcoming, gracious and accommodating. The room was spotless, and while a bit dated, everything was well taken care of and obviously upgraded. The beds are super comfortable (something I don't usually expect from a hotel other than the higher end places), towels were big, fluffy and clean. The room was spacious, eliminating that claustrophobia you can get with longer stays. Kitchenette was well appointed with the essentials, including full-size coffee maker. Since my daughter lives nearby, I will definitely be back the Monticello for my next visit! No hair dryer (a rare surprise these days), and no tissues. Add a shelf or two in the small bathroom so guests don't have to balance all their toiletries on the back of the toilet. There was a mirrored medicine cabinet, but I hate putting things in hidey places and then forget to repack them. It would have also been nice to have coffee/creamer/sugar packets available, as this seems to be an expected amenity offered by most hotels. The Max runs right across the street, just a few short feet from your door; it's not too loud and after awhile, you won't even notice it. (Plus: a short, pleasant walk to the nearest station.) Finally, a "Do Not Disturb" sign would have been nice for both me and the housekeeper who walked in on me while I was lounging around in my jammies one lazy day.

Simple, but clean and super affordable. They were very accommodating to us as our plane didn't arrive in Portland until midnight and we didn't even get to the motel until almost 1AM, but they were ready and waiting for us to check in. Close to the Max train lines (couple blocks to the stop) which was really convenient. Great experience and would definitely recommend it to people on a budget.

The Monticello Motel is owned by a sweet and hard-working couple who stay on-site. When they hadn't updated the number of available one-bed rooms on booking.com, they gave my wife and I a two-bed room. The room we stayed in had a kitchenette, a nice table (and chairs) to work on, and comfortable beds. Be aware that this is a basic motel; everything is basic (but solid).

It was simple, close to where we needed to be and to downtown Portland. It was clean. The bathroom was tiny and the mirror even more tiny; no place to put things when doing hair and make up. No exhaust fan in the bathroom. Elect. Outlets were awkward. The staff was stingy with towels - we each got one and only one. The internet sometimes worked sometimes didn'T.
