Located near to lines of the subway.
Overall, I'm very satisfied with the facilities in the guest house...very cooperative & friendly staff.
Room smelled of smoke Window showed an opening covered with cardboard Fairly noisy Attendant told me to be there by 10 pm even though welcome sheet stated that I could check in until 11.30 pm
Price Close to subway station Clean Comfy
Felt a bit unsafe walking back at night, I am 6ft 3" but felt nervous walking about with my girlfriend
Owner was great and accommodating. The staff were informative of where to park and places to eat.
Bed wasn't the softest, but it's not a 5 star hotel, so I wasn't expecting much. I would go hear again in a heartbeat.
Location convenient to 2 subways Very good price Clean rooms and bathroom Friendly helpful staff
Noisy window AC above your head Sometimes noisy on the street at night
Front door has a code so you can come and go at anytime day or night. Posted quite hours were observed during our stay. Located near both the 'D' and 4 train subway stations, so getting around was pretty easy. Located near several places to eat, both big name chains and local mom and pop types. Also close to stores and a laundry mat.
Wi-fi was intermittent. Air-conditioner popped breaker one night so we came back to a hot room. I was with my adult son so we were fine. But the neighborhood was a little dirty and rough looking. I could see younger people or those less experienced at travel being intimidated by that.
I liked the proximity of subway stations and restaurants. The staff person who checked us in was very friendly.
The full size bed in room 6 was very hard...almost like sleeping on the floor. Was not prepared for the communal atmosphere of the bathroom. I had my wife and a young female from France with me and another customer came out of the shower with naught on but his underwear.
The building is a totally renovated brownstone with 11 bare bones guest rooms, two shared bathrooms, and one fully equipped kitchenette (full sized fridge, microwave, coffee maker).
Hotel's street appears safe, but surrounding neighborhood is, well...the Bronx. Shared bathrooms mean some waiting, so in AM several barefoot treks back and forth, upstairs and back. These treks left the soles of my feet black! Could use better floor cleaning.
Of course it is kept very clean especially the bathroom, you receive towels and toiletries,It is very quiet with transportation and groceries nearby.
As its popularity increases to me prices has gone and sometimes during the night and mornings one may have to wait to use the bathroom if you need it urgently.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Short walk to 2 subway lines. Very decent price for New York. Discount for cash. Free Wi-Fi available. Rooms and buildings were clean. Beds were comfortable.
Window AC noisy. Needed to turn it off to sleep. Loud street noise (people, music, cars, sirens) make it hard to sleep if you are in the front rooms. Stayed in two rooms. Both had hair on the "clean" sheets.
Every thing was great. Additionally the guest house is close to two subway stations, and in 25 minutes and at the cost of US$2.50 one can get to the heart of New York or any where else.
The guest house is located in a lower class area of New York (Bronx). But it does not matter as the guest house is close to two subway stations, and in 25 minutes and at the cost of US$2.50 one can get to the heart of New York or any where else.
The furniture of the room
Only one bathroom per floor.
The staff (Junior) was very nice and helpful with information about the city, recommendations, the hotel is a big house adapted with arount 10 or 12 rooms in 2 floors, this is what I could see. Each floor has its complete bathroom and complete kitchen.
It was a little bit far from Manhattan, it takes about 30 minutes to reach Central Park but it was ok for the price per night.
If your a backpacker, this place is excellent, if you are used to places like Homewood Suites, this is probably not the place for you, unless your very adventurous. Be careful not to park in the handicap loading zone to the right of the property. Parking challenge is similar to lower Manhattan. Only one pillow per bed, no TV, and you can't stay here unless you are not from New York. I believe children have to be a certain age to be here. Housekeeping is just OK, bring your favorite toiletries.
Great hostel, really clean. We were the only ones on our floor. Everything was clean and the location was quiet. The only drawback was the location, which is best described as "Bronx-y". But really what you should expect from a Bronx hostel. We had absolutely no actual issues with the neighborhood.
Hard for carrying a big baggage to the room
The hotel is great, the staff are very nice, the place is really clean and you can tell everything is new and neat. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the neighbourhood is not noisy, you can have a good sleep. The beds are comfortable also.
The fact that the hotel is located in the Bronx. You need the subway for everything and out of busy hours it can take long. You will be losing an hour and a half everyday in the subway. Also, if you want to have dinner in Manhattan is not nice to walk in the Bronx at night. It was scary for us, so we always had to come back early to the hotel.
We liked the location and easy accessibility to the train and Manhattan. We chose this place because its closeness to Yankee Stadium and that was another plus. It also had safe, cheap 24 hour parking ($15).
We had to wait for a while for bathrooms. It seemed that one bathroom for all those occupied rooms on one floor was not sufficient.
I liked the welcoming stuff, the fact that I could get in and out easily with the door code.
The super small room, without even a desk. The noisy neighbourgs and other guests that didn't respect the 10pm-7am quiet hours, and the fact that there was nobody to complain about at the hotel as there's nobody there during the night, not even a security guard.
great rooms, nice atmosphere in the house
kitchen, but not a single piece of cutlery
This property is exactly what it says it is, a clean, comfortable, inexpensive place to stay.
The staff. The young lady called and made sure I was on the way when I did not show up-by 11pm. She did not leave the premises and very courteous. The 2nd night I called when I got lost coming from the train station. He called me back and walked me to the house and was standing outside when I arrived. When I passed the house he said this is 1984. He was very helpful and saved my life.
Walking up to the 3rd floor with my Suitcase. I could have used an elevator. I had to use some muscles I had not used in years. I'm 67 years old.
