Spacious to stretch out Close to VNP.
Well off the beaten path. The night sounds.
There is a beautiful yard in a convenient location.Lots of coffee supplies set out, and abundant toiletries and hair dryer in the bathroom. Wonderful lighted signage and excellent directions to the property, added feature is the secure, locked yard. There is beautiful wood flooring throughout. Lots of closet and drawer space. The photos in the ads are very accurate.
The knives need sharpening, there are no reading lights in the living room. There is no dishwasher as advertised.
Location was great for Volcano National Park
Very well equipped, spacious and in the middle of the Hawaiian forest.
A bit hard to find even with GPS, and very far from any shops & restaurants.
Owners, Thomas & Angela, are very friendly and inviting. Great value. 2BR/1bath. The rooms were extremely clean and comfortable. There is a flat screen tv, dvd player, water filter on the kitchen sink. Soft rainwater was a big plus (after the hard water at Waikoloa)! There was real ground Kona coffee, Coffeemate powder, sugar, hot cocoa, diet soda, tea bags, paper plates & napkins. Full kitchen with dishes, utensils, cookware, salt & pepper. If you're staying for awhile, there is a fairly new gas grill and styrofoam coolers for your use during your stay. Beautiful flowers (especially anthuriums) & fruit trees outside. We stayed only 1 night to see the volcano at night. But it would be a great place to spend some time and get away from the city or resort. It is a great place to stay for exploring Hawaii Volcano National Park which is a 20-30 min drive. Grocery store (Foodland), drug store (Long's), gas and restaurants are 20-30 minutes away in the opposite direction on Hwy 11 in Kurtistown. When we visited 7-17-13, we enjoyed a cool night (down into the upper 50's or low 60's), but warmed up quickly during the day. There are extra blankets, but we did not need them. It rained a lot in the afternoon & night (which is why it is so green), but rain cleared during the day when we were there mid-July. You will be on the second floor during your stay. It is a duplex with a private separate entrance. The stairway is covered and is well lit. Large airy, covered, lanai (patio) deck on the 2nd floor. There are 2 bedrooms, one with a queen, and one with 2 double beds. All beds have comforters and are firm but comfy. We had 5 people in our party, me, husband, son (12), daughter (9), and my mom. There was room for us all.
Get there during the day, so you will know your way back to the house when it is dark. Easy to find the house during the day. But it is dark at night. There is a large sign with the address in front of the gate to the driveway. No WiFi for our 1 night stay. Thomas had WiFi just installed that day, but he did not have the correct password, so we could not get on the WiFi. There was no Verizon cell service and no 3g or 4g at the house which is 5 minutes off Highway 11. This is a great place to be if you want to be off the grid. But once you get onto the main Hwy 11, there was good Verizon cell service (4-5 bars) & 3g/4g. Kitchen & bathroom were clean but a little dated.
