It was a beautiful historical resort with very friendly staff. The food at both the Tavern and The Wine Cellar was delicious (especially the Maine Lobster at The Wine Cellar). Beautiful walking trails around the property and wonderful hotel staff!
We arrived late Friday and somebody must have had the window open because there were several dead flies on the window ceil. The next morning they cleaned everything but it was a little gross (I guess that's part of being in the mountain).
Lovely location and interesting old building with good facilties. The room was very clean.
The hotel is seriuosly understaffed, which meant long waits for everything: 15 minutes to check in, as the receptionist was also continually answering the phone and doing other tasks, 20 minutes for the lift, as that could only be operated by 1 member of staff who was always busy elsewhere and a ludicrous 30 minutes to be seated at a buffet breakfast although there were more than 10 empty tables. It was clear from the reactions of the staff (who did do their best) that this was normal: not a four star level of service. The food was also not of four star standard. There was no wifi reception in our room and also no air-conditioning, both of which had been confirmed with our booking.
We loved the warm staff, beautiful views, pool, excellent food, movie theater, historic beauty of the place and everything about it.
Great get away stay for 1 night . View breathtaking, front porch inviting! Overall excellent!
Staff was very courteous and friendly .. made our stay enjoyable
The hotel and the view from it is absolutely beautiful! The staff was wonderful. Really enjoyed talking to the farmers, the young man who is a bartender and several of the waitresses. It was so helpful to learn that laundry services were available for no extra charge. The young man who helped us with that was wonderful.
We were really disappointed to have to sit in the back dining room to eat our breakfast because tables in the front room with the awesome view still had to be cleared. We were told we could wait 20 minutes if we wanted to sit in there but with check out at 11-that was not possible. Also disappointed to learn that the s'mores campfire only occurs on the weekends in Oct. We were visiting on a Wednesday.
The View was amazing, all scenery, the vibe. The bartenders and the lounge area were great
My Pillow smelled like sweat. The screen fell out of my window. The bathroom/shower is really not up to standards for what the room costs. Drinks and food very expensive.
dated rooms, cracked ceiling over the bed, overpriced room. A suite with no air conditioning, small rooms. I went to Boston and stayed at the Fairmont and it was cheaper per night.
Food Staff Cleanness Location
Too noise, if you are looking for a good sleep that's not the place, the old building let you hear everything, from footsteps to conversation.
Room was great! Views are spectacular
The staff was great The rooms were very clean but they are very dated and not hip.
Wireless was awful. For the price this should have been top notch The hotel is isolated so you have to rely on their dining. They don't have great choices and they cater to private parties more than the individual families. In my eyes for the money their are better choices because the dining is very old school and it feels likes you are in banquet hall versus a cool dining area. The hotel has all these great outside areas but you really can't eat there and most of the time they are not open to the people staying there unless there were private parties. The surrounding area around the hotel is pretty depressed so it isn't like there are great dining choices around it. If you are paying all this money to stay at the hotel dining should be part of the experience. We stay at Church Landing in Meredith for the first half of the trip and they not only had great rooms, lake view but a great dining experience.
Wonderful spots all over the hotel to hang out, read, etc.
Reminicing of the times we were there forty years ago, and how it had changed,
Years ago had flowers in the lobby, missed them. The decor is darker, I liked it lighter.
Definitely a vacation destination resort. They have a beautiful spot with fun activities planned all day. Roasting marshmallows at the fire pit at night was a nice touch. Excellent food and wine in their restaurant. Just a beautiful and relaxing stay!
Don't bother upgrading your room's view, spend your time on the gorgeous patio overlooking the mountains and golf course. Can't beat it!
Hotel was beautiful and the food was excellent. Loved the activity schedule especially getting axed!
It felt like the staff didn't get along. Enormous pillows were hard to sleep with.
Beautiful setting with everything you need to entertain the family; pool, games room, outdoor play gym and games etc.
Chil must be over 5 for kids club. Would be nice to have something for the smaller ones - even if it was only for an hour or two of the day.
Liked just about everything. No real big complaints.
Beer overpriced Only one manual elevator No coffee in rooms
Lots of activities! Great fitness area! Very comfortable location- great for families!
The front desk service was not that friendly. The tavern restaurant waiter appeared to be drunk and the service in General was extremely slow. A table near us with kids waited 1.5 hours for their meals!
Loved the play room for having non-electronic games and loved the cinema was just over the top! Also, the board game room is just phenomenal. The Lobby is cozy and a great reading spot.
The rooms are small for the price. Although, the beds are comfy and the bathroom was a comfortable size. An added cost for a mini fridge is just ridiculous when paying over $200 a night! The swimming pool water is too cold for an "indoor" pool!
no surrounding towns close by
Activities for everyone - indoor pool, game room, outside space, axe throwing, snow mobiles, full gym Good restaurant & bar, prices reasonable given a resort Relaxing evening space, piano, couches, etc for adults
Didn't realize that they require 24 hour advance notice for the downstairs wine restaurant. Not a huge deal but would be good to know prior to check in for couples looking to take advantage of the upscale dining
