Location. Nice clean room No air conditioning and this was brutal at 1am when a homeless trumpet player was outside for one hour playing away. Elevator had to be reset when it stopped twice on the way up to 7th floor- we walked up the stairs- all 7 floors- from then on!

Beautiful, spacious room with comfortable bed and sheets. Lovely exposed brick wall. Room was facing alley where bar patrons and restaurant workers talked loudly and banged garbage cans until 11:30 pm. Then the garbage truck arrived at 6am to bang some more. Didn't leave much time for sleeping.

The vibe and decor were fabulous. It was homey and luxurious at the same time. The staff was friendly and helpful. The elevator was moody at best.

The ambiance The guy at the front desk when I checked in had an attitude you could cut with a chain saw. I told him I was appalled that I had to leave $150.00 deposit for incidentals and he was very flippant with his response. Then I asked to speak to the mod and he told me there was none and then I asked if the owner would ever hear my complaint and he said he would let him know which I'm sure based on his attitude nothing happened! I stay at expensive hotels all over the world and never was I asked to leave a $150.00 deposit for incidentals. The previous time I stayed there it was $50.00 which is still high but reasonable. If you use a debit card like I try and do for most of my business expenses, that charge stays on there for usually 5 business days. I won't stay there again!

After the two incidents, I got an upgrade to a very nice room. The door to my first room did not lock correctly. They could not find my booking.com booking when I arrived.

The hotel was in a perfect spot for sight seeing using public transportation. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated. The restaurant and bar were fun places to relax. Their breakfast was much more than cold danish and coffee. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Garbage truck noise- luckily not until after 8am

The position, really close to the centre. Reading the other comments, even very old, the constant refurbishing works; the reduced room space even when the bed dimension is good; the location of the washbasin located into the bedroom and not in the bathroom

The hotel has a nice feel. Trendy but not over stated. Staff were professional.... helpful and always available without being over eager. Clean, well appointed rooms. Would like coffee in the room. The elevator didn't always work.

It was the worst service and worst value for money that I have ever encountered. It took 1 1/2 hrs to check us in so my 9 year old daughter was only allowed to go to her room at 10.30pm. The woman at reception was extremely rude and there was no-one to help us with our luggage. She gave us the noisiest room available on an alley where all the refuse trucks switch over at 6am every morning. I discovered the next morning that quieter rooms were available and this was clearly very unsuitable for a young child (or anyone for that matter). All fine if this was a hostel - but at $269 a night + tax, it was the rip-off of the century. I wrote a formal complaint and was promised a response the next day. I have heard nothing so clearly they do not care very much. Tiny room too by the way, and the tv was hung in the corner without a bracket so you could not watch it !

Location was very good.right in Union Square. Staff had an attitude and claimed that could not help with any problems because they did not had the authority. So apparently there is a problem with the management. At check in hotel holds 150 dollars for damages. The claim they give it back at check out. We checked out 3 days ago and the money is still not refunded. Also, they overcharged us and they still did not fix that. We specifically asked for a quiet room because we had read reviews saying that it was noisy. Instead of geeting a quiet room we got a room right above the hotels bar, accross a parking space, in the middle of the street and next to a room with a screaming baby. The rooms are tiny and only partially renovated. They need more renovations and more cleaning. Carpet was disgusting. Overall was a disaster. We would definitely not stay there again neither would we recommend it to others.

The location of this hotel is unbeatable if you are working in downtown San Francisco. Excellent restaurants within walking distance, world-class shopping and a lot of cool pictures ready for you to enjoy. The area is walkable even at night, I felt safe all the time. The bedroom was tiny, and it had a big fan over the bed that had to be turned on for me to sleep at comfortable temperature, even in early April. The elevator is very old fashon and there was construction going on almost every day nearby. The noise ended before 10 pm which was nice.

Great location!!!! Clean rooms, friendly staff Noise, terrible breakfast, slowest elevator ever... And: we booked a superior room with city view, when we arrived we were told that the hotel was overbooked, and got a suite. This "suite" was room no. 311 where we had absolutely no daylight, because there were huge waste bins, wood panels and smoking people directly in front of our room! No matter what happens, don't let the staff put you in that room!! We were told that with room no. 312 it's the same problem... We could change the room after 3 (!!) nights. We got one on the 5th floor, and that one was nice... Still, would rather not stay again.

Staff were friendly and helpful, room and bathroom were spacious, clean and comfortable. After reading reviews complaining about the noise from garbage trucks, I specifically asked for a quiet room. However, the room I got was still exposed to noise from the bar, which woke me up.

Staff was very friendly and skilled. We arrived early in the morning and after checking availability they allowed us to check in. We have a baby and they also upgraded our room with a bigger one. Montgomery metro station is 5' from the hotel. Bus station is in front of. It's also next from China Town main entrance and Union sq.
