- Overpriced - A bit small room (no view) - Should have been a restaurant rather than a hotel - A bit noisy

The staff weren't overly friendly and apart from one lady in the bar who was fabulous, the rest were ordinary.
We liked the location, the fantastic bar which had live jazz and the room was compact but comfortable.

Noisy in the morning

We stayed here for 3 nights and because of the thin walls we couldn't sleep due to our neighbors...additionally, the wifi had no reception on the 8th floor and the elevator stucked a lot of times on the 2nd floor so we had to walk up to the 8th floor....
The location was perfect, also the breakfast good...staff was also very friendly and helpful...

There are constructions going on around the hotel and in the mornings I woke up hearing loud noises of containers moving or something. More sound proofing would be useful
The room is very pretty, the decoration, the lights, the bathroom, stepping in the first time was a delight. The bed is very comfortable, had quite a few good night sleeps. The bar on the 2nd floor has live jazz music and very special cocktails, also the guests of the hotel get discount of cocktails. The on-site restaurant has a very sophisticated kitchen. The breakfast is great, wide selection of different options, although I missed the vegetables and got a bit boring after 4 days.

Absurd amount of noise from outside and inside. Impossible to sleep. For the price you pay it's absurd! No A/C available.. They told me to open the windows (a joke considering the amount of noise from alley) Also hotel old and made of wood so you hear squeeks all the time from rooms above and next to you. Very disappointed. Left the next day t a safe chain hotel.
It was clean

Elevator is a bit wanky.
Location can't be much better than this one. It's a very unique boutique hotel with lots od quirky details. Rooms are small but comfortable, breakfast is versitile and delicious, homemade cookies in the lobby made us happy every day. :)

Parking very expensive!
March 25, 2015
The noise levels from outside and the fact that every morning the rubbish truck would come really early and make a lot of noise.
The size of the rooms and the breakfast.

The first night I stayed at the hotel, I was given a room in one of the upper floors. The size of the room was what I expected, however, it was clear that the room had not been updated or repaired in quite some time (e.g. the carpet was stained and some tiles from the shower floor were missing). I could have dealt with this had it not been for the overwhelming musty smell from the room. I did ask for another room, but was told that no other rooms were available and that I would have to wait until the morning. The room was definitely not worth 3.5 stars.
I had asked for a room in the upper floors based on other reviews about noise from the street and the second floor restaurant and was accommodated. After complaining about the first room I stayed in, I was given another room at no extra charge that was much much better and twice the size. The second room was clean, updated, and comfortable. The complimentary breakfast every morning was excellent and included eggs, sausage, an assortment of pastries, breads, cheese, fresh fruit, oatmeal, and cereal.

The carpet in my room had seen better days perhaps.
I liked the quotes, poems and art work found all over the hotel. Quirky and a little off centre, just like its old, elegant lift. The location was also really convenient, a short walk from Union Square, the BART station and on the fringe of Chinatown. The lobby smelt really nice too.

I found the place to be very noisy. My room was right next to the stairwell to the bar and every time someone would walk up and down my bed would shake and it would sound really loud. Also I could hear the band play really loudly it felt like I was in the bar. Try not to stay in room 304. I was hopping to have a desk in my room so I could do some work, I did request one and the staff said they will try and move me into a room with a desk but I never heard from them again about it.
The bed was comfy and was nice that the room was cleaned everyday. Cocktails at the bar are super yummy.
