Situated in the French Quarter, this New Orleans hotel was built in the 1800s and provides simple rooms with coffee facilities. Guests are a 5 minute walk from Jackson Square.
Score from 607 reviews Excellent
the location was great, we could walk everywhere. We were really close to Jackson Square and Bourbon Street. The staff was helpful, especially Wyatt, I only wish I would've talked to him more indepthly than on our last day. Our room was bigger than expected, the seating area was a great place for our suitcases.
How thin the walls were, we could hear our neighbors talking and some people weren't courteous about trying to not slam their doors. I understand that with these old buildings, sound proofing was important back in the day. Minor problem. The thing I hated most was the rug under the bed. It was terribly uncomfortable to walk on with bear feet. Luckily it was winter so easily solved by keeping my socks on :)
Local was very good, walking distance to many venues.
Next door there was a very loud party taking place luckily stopped by 11 pm. Not having an elevator was a pain, since there was no one to take luggage up and down.
Being in the heart of the Quarter in a historic and classic boutique hotel.
Everything, was beyond excellent. Thanks
I loved that the Hotel St. Helene was not a traditional hotel. Very elegant. I loved that it felt like an old southern home straight out of the 1800s. And the coffee was delicious! Great staff. Very kind.
I would have liked to know more about the hotels history before it was a hotel
The room - clean , quiet, very relaxing cozy nook as sitting area within the room . Loved the crisp clean black and white decor.
No easily available hot water even at breakfast time. Very annoying .
The room was incredibly noisy from about 4am to 6am due to several garbage trucks right outside on my window. They were banging garbage cans and things in their trucks for 2 solid hours. The area is expected to have some traffic and moderate noise during the course of the night, but this was EXTREME. Very little sleep.
Modern, uncluttered feel but with a sense of history. Location was ideal, and the staff was incredibly friendly. Even though I was in an interior room - had enough light.
TV had some iffy reception, but I wasn't there to sit in the room and watch reruns.
We liked almost everything about the hotel except ......
The doors to the rooms closed very loudly. Which was annoying when trying to sleep.
We love playing tourist in our own city and this was one of the best experiences we have had so far. Love the location! Far enough from Bourbon to avoid noise and crowds, but close enough to enjoy all of the little boutique shops and everything New Orleans has to offer. Our room had the balcony looking over the courtyard and pool. We had the doors to the balcony opened most of the time when we were in the room to enjoy the weather and the music from the quarter.
The location good, however we had to pay for parking.
The hotel didn't have an elevator, so we had to carry all of our bags up to the third floor.
Centre of french quarter so great location. Charming and helpful staff. Pretty courtyard and nicer than being in a chain hotel.
Tiny bathroom and as the windows are old, the noise from the street was irritating.
Location was excellent, price was reasonable compared to other hotels, room was a renovated, boutique style, nice access to pool and courtyard. Very quiet despite being in the French Quarter, public parking nearby. Staff was super friendly and accommodating.
Parking is expensive but that's not the hotel's fault.
I loved the small cozy room. I enjoyed the balcony as well. The rooms are small and like a cottage. The staff here is AMAZING!!!!!!
I wish the room had been slightly bigger.
This is an older property with charm and is 2 blocks from Bourbon St. The price is good, the rooms are bare but clean and comfortable with a sitting area. The staff was friendly and customer service oriented.
We have no complaints.
Mindy was at the front desk most of the time we were in New Orleans. She was very helpful and always had a smile. I loved our room. I love the white walls, and sheets and dark wood floors. The bed was so comfortable! The down comforter was to die for. It was an old building, but did not have an old "smell". Beautiful, loved it.
No elevator. Three flights of stairs.
The evening staff were awesome
Great hotel, but there was a smile that never really went away.
The staff was helpful and friendly. Hotel was in the heart of the French quarter. The value was fantastic. I really enjoyed my stay.
That I had to leave.
Loved the high ceilings, hardwood floors and garden/pool. Minimalist decor was refreshing. Staff was very helpful & friendly. Delightful enjoying the coffee/breakfast buffet by the pool. Ample parking across street and next door. Great location.
Internet connection didnt work for me (iphone); Hot water took forever to flow.
Need to have better internet.
Location was perfect, it was extremely quiet, really liked the dark wood floors and white bedding. Very attractive. First time staying at this hotel and will probably stay there every time if possible. :-)
Being on the third floor an water pressure in shower.
Very quint and beautiful, gorgeous balcony room.
The hotel next door Omni removed their metal trash containers for 20 minutes at 5:45 am and it woke my son and I up on Friday and Sumday morning, very very loud! Also, our toilet overflowed and it was hard to get someone to take care of it, when they did it was 11:00 and all they did was put down towels, no mopping or real cleaning and said the cleaning staff would take of it in the morning, gross.
Staff was friendy and room was clean and comfortable!
Cute, clean pool
No psring lot across the street $40/night, continental breakfast was terrible
I chose to stay at St. Helene for location--I wanted to be in the heart of the French Quarter. Location was perfect and couldn't have been better. Hotel is simple, but perfectly sufficient--no bells and whistles, no more than a handful of English-speaking TV channels, no room service, no main lobby area (aside from a few couches and a check-in desk). Lastly, staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Would stay again if looking for a well-priced choice.
Like many hotels in New Orleans, the hotel is loud. I was situated right near the staircase, and could hear other guests coming up/down the stairs all night/morning. Next time, I would ask for a back room. Lastly, the hotel had a sign on the door that read, "use the safe to lock personal belongings and please use both locks," but the hotel only provides digital keys. That was a little unsettling.
