Horrible, smelly, uncomfortable, no wi-fi in rooms, and weak wi-fi in lobby. I got a top bunk and every time I climbed up, no matter how hard I tried to not let this happen, the sharp ladder would scratch and cut my knees. I got tired of bleeding and told the staff. The staff person showed no concern at all, did not even say they'd have someone look at the ladder. So get your tetanus shot before going there. They did put me in another room, which was nicer in that it had air conditioning and even a chair, but worse in that it stunk--the smell kept me up at night--and the bed was really uncomfortable. I woke up with small bites, I think from mites. It was a super hot day and only some rooms have air conditioning. There is no luggage security. The metal beds are very rickety and it feels as if the whole thing is going when you climb up, though I doubt that happens, they are just poor quality (I'm not a large or heavy person). The staff take frequent long, 30-minute or more breaks, so you have to calculate that time in if you have to be someplace, there is no indication of when they will not be available. The electronic keys stop working, so if that happens you could be stuck waiting through no fault of your own. The whole place smelled awful, there were not enough bathrooms, and some of the bathrooms were filthy. I hope the health dept. raids the place. It had a very cynical, squalid feeling. I did not feel safe there not because of crime, but the lack of basic hygiene and maintenance. I got the idea there is something very rotten going on with this business. There are much nicer hostels in NY for the same price or less.
Location was good. price was cheap for the location. Free breakfast. You get only one roommate.
