They have construction going on till April. They never mentioned this at any stage. Not even on check in. The jack hammers and electric saws outside my room in the morning was the first I heard of it. I had to pass bags of cement and workers to get to the shower. Hospitality and respect for guests seriously lacking!
- Price - Breakfast included
- Bathroom isn't clean at all! - Staff is very apathetic
Hostel is near some good restaurants, and close to a subway station. Free breakfast had a variety of foods. The hostel is very trendy - cool look overall. Computers with internet are available to use as well as free wifi.
The room was very small and always too hot (even though it was -15C outside, we had to sleep with no covers on). There wasn't enough space in the kitchen for everyone to sit. We were told we would have to move rooms twice however after packing everything up we were told we could stay, so they are rather disorganised. Wifi signal didn't always work in our room.
Room was wonderful. Wifi was excellent. Staff were quite cooperative.
Nothing to say.
I like that the staffs are attentive. Although there is one who seem to be a but unhelpful when we had trouble with the water heater.
I stayed during winter when it was between 2°C and -13°C at night and water heating is a essential. Unfortunately there was a day that water heater didn't work. My roommate reported the problem at 6pm but when I got back at 11pm tk shower it was not resolved and was told that they would call first thing in the morning at 6am. I expected it to be fixed by 8am but they have not called yet when I asked again. Also, there were construction going around our side of the floor and men start walking and working around the hall at 7am. It was a bit troubling to use the shower in the morning so I had to use the other showers at the ground floor to comfortably take a shower. No warnings or apologies given prior to or during check in. Because of the construction as well our room was too dusty but nobody came in to clean our room.
The staff and travelers the entire hostel and neighborhood has a quiet peaceful artistic sense about it.....which was MOST welcome. Its one of the best hostels in New York/Brooklyn. Very spacious rooms and overall good vibe.
a bit of renovation....noise and dust...taking place and subway repairs which take place in the late evening.....making it more difficult to get to Brooklyn or Manhattan...from Monday to Friday
Location is ok if you have plenty of time and don't mind taking subway. Otherwise, it's a 3-minute walk to the station and a 20-minute ride to downtown Manhattan. Concerts in the basement are a convenient way to explore local music scene (I witnessed some home-grown bossa-nova and and hip-hop freestyle) but they definitely will be disturbing if you're a light sleeper. Be ready to pay extra for towels and meet lots of inadequate but mostly friendly people, too. Overall, it was just ok, but next time I'll be looking for something more central.
Noise from the club at night, absolutely nothing to see or do in the area.
Poor bed, small and pillow was terrible
Near subway, good interior design. Very good breakfast and self-serve kitchen. Good washrooms.
My room was next to reception (no. 101) and all the night there were guys laughing and talking loudly. The next night they were definitely smoking weed. :) There were no carpet or anything like that on the floor – just concrete. So it was very cold to walk around the room without wearing boots. In my room there was no heating — nevertheless blanket was extra fee.
friendly and helpful staff clean rooms stylish design nice atmosphere
extremely small room tiny bathroom paid baggage storage room
Front desk staff was great, particulary Ally. Room was comfortable and the building was pretty quiet.
Restrooms could have been maintained a little better.
Staff were friendly and helpful. They provided hairdryers, power adaptors and irons. There were some nice cafes in the neighbourhood.
The room was freezing cold. I had to wear two sweaters at night because blankets were not provided. There was no Internet in the rooms either. Wi-fi worked only in the hall on the ground floor. They checked somebody in at 3 am, and obviously this person woke up everyone in the room. It was too far from Manhattan and Brooklyn if you travel on subway.
Good location, friendly staff and really LOFT hostel
The bedroom was clean and common facilities were ok
Very basic bedroom, especially the bathroom.
Clean, cool neighborhood, close to metro, common areas you want to spend time in.
Guests NOT allowed to bring their own alcohol into the hostel...
The rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable with a cool loft vibe. The kitchen is great and there are plenty of hangout areas. They also put a free bbq and breakfast on for guests and there was a downstairs bar with live music. It's also really close to the subway which goes straight to williamsburg/manhattan.
It was very loud at night and I thought it was in the centre of Williamsburg but it's a little bit out, still a great location though.
Helpful and friendly staff, nice breakfast, cool and modern hostel
the noise outside the bedroom in one night (it wasnt a problem for me, but for people who have difficult on sleeping it could be). I had a problem on the taxi service that the hostel offer to me, because they didnt pick me up at the airport.
Comfortable bedrooms. Great community, nice patio and backyard. It´s pretty easy to get in touch with other travellers during free breakfast and barbeques. Helpfull employees.
Shared bathrooms were accessible by anyone. Neighborhood
The location is great. The rooms are spacious. Bathrooms are very clean. Very close to L subway line
Location Value for money Good facilities
You cannot bring alcohol into the hostel and must buy very overpriced drinks from the bar. We asked if the room could be cleaned but were told this is done after you leave, we were not told you can get clean towels on return of used from reception at any time so the room became unpleasant towards the end of the four night stay. Our room was at the back of the hostel and on Friday and Saturday night a club on the next block kept us awake until 5am.
Breakfast facility with sufficient capacity
Only combined restrooms/showers available. Consequently the restrooms are frequently occupied. Shower/restroom door unlocks if doorhandle is depressed from the outside. No identiy check on collection of luggage from the store room (no luggage receipts are used).
Decent service, great atmosphere in the hostel bar and during the free BBQ we had!
Did not like 4 bed dorms as opposed to the 3 bed rooms the hostel did have. Both however are pretty good, as there are no bunks at all!
Not much to be honest. I did end up getting a 3 dorm room to myself, but that was it. The night/evening staff and the security guard were lovely.
I booked the hostel and tried to cancel 2 hours later, to be told I couldn't. I turned up in a somewhat shady area, to not very warm staff. I went to my room (3 bed mixed dorm), left my stuff, and went out. I arrived late that evening to find one of my male roommates passed out on my bed, with his pants halfway down. The night staff were golden, and the security guard came and sorted the situation, and I was allocated another room. There's only a blanket, but I wasn't too cold. I found a short hair on the bed that wasn't mine, and bits of...something in my sheets. The floors were dirty, and so was the bathroom. The actual tub needed a good bleaching. Honestly, I don't know why people hype this place up. It's two subway trains from Manhattan, about 25 minutes away. I really wouldn't stay here again. Breakfast is miserable too. Just bread and cereal, jams and coffee.
Knowing Brooklin, the BBQ parties, the price, the help of the guys that work there, the near Metro station and all the facilities that the hostel have. If i return to brooklin for sure i will stay again in New York Loft Hostel.
Location was good, can't complain. Just a few steps from Morgan subway station and close to a few bars. Good restaurant called Tutu's across the street, and good organic, fancy grocery store on the way to the subway.
We booked a private double room with a private bathroom and it was NOT worth the money ($300 US for both nights, + tax, + city tax).
