breakfast so so
Ceiling fan noisy
The Inn exceeded our expectations. The location was perfect. We could walk to everything and still not hear the busy streets nearby. Perfect place to stay and will be back many more times in the future
The bed in our room was extremely soft and we woke feeling a little sore due to back support. That is my only issue.
Location and staff. OK breakfast
Noise from an A/C unit outside our window
Ask the Inn for where to eat. Cannot go wrong, am or pm. Quaint place, has flavor of Mary Poppins rooftops with the brick townhomes, flower accents in town. Very Friendly ! Coming here again in Oct. Great Price.
Loved the room- but bed quacks if your having a romantic evening. 36 yrs. married
Good location (near stores, port) Room availability Quiet
Dusty bed sheets!!
Really great central location, but on a quiet street. Our room had it's own lounge area and the bedroom and bathroom were very spacious. The room was spotless. Excellent place to stay in Newburyport
Wifi was very frustrating and the breakfast was average
Location....a block from downtown activity Hotel....ambience, service, breakfast, comfort Staff....Kathy was an excellent caretaker of all of our needs.
Location Jacuzzi- big bathroom Parking Quiet Fireplace
The bed was awful. Wanted a fridge and coffee maker. No help with bags to second floor. Should have asked for first floor.
The location The exercise room
The bed The bathroom (awful) The parking (too tight) The tv
Had an issue with the bathroom sink.
the upgrade they gabe us and it was close to everything.
the bed was very very hard. Did not get any sleep
Clean, great location, free parking, friendly staff, 1 minute walk to shops and restaurants
Wifi doesn't seem to reach rooms on the 3rd floor, breakfast is mediocre - cold muffins and a Keurig machine for coffee
Great location Reasonable price for Area
Needed a few more creature comforts, access to electrical outlets, place for toiletries, hooks to hang towels etc. Bedside tables
No closet in the room, horrible bathroom, no place to hang a coat!
At bathroom... No rack & hook.
Lovely old inn, great atmosphere, walking distance to shops and restaurants.
It is a small thing... but starting the day with a cup of coffee in a china cup or mug is one of life's pleasures. Next time we will bring our own. Paper cups don't belong to a nice inn like this.
Good location near restaurants and shops.
Hotel is run for the convenience of the owners rather than the comfort of the clients. Our "de luxe" room had bare floorboards, only one night-table and only one armchair. It looked right out onto a city street and the Venetian shades did not fully keep the street lights out so it never got entirely dark all night. I think the "de luxe" aspect of the room was a small kitchen with a fridge and microwave. However despite there being many drawers and closets to hold them there was not a single utensil: no knives, forks, spoons, plates and dishes so it was not therefore possible to make use of the microwave. There was a Keurig coffee maker, but tea drinkers were out of luck. And in keeping with the lack of utensils, there were no stirrers. The cups were polystyrene and the glasses were plastic. In other words this "de luxe" room at a place advertising itself as a New England Inn had no better facilities than a cheap motel. The story repeated at breakfast. No item was produced in the hotel. There was sliced bread, pale bagels, and waffles for that guests could toast, packages of oatmeal that guests could microwave, other cereals and fresh fruit. It was all OK but again not in keeping with the concept of a New England Inn. A note on the bugffet pointed out that all the bowls etc were made from recycled material but that the Inn was looking into greener options. How about ceramic dishes and metal flatware? Greener and pleasanter to use.
Quiet, clean, a walk to everything... a great match for the community
Could have used a couple of more end tables in the room
Liked the feel of a true New England Inn. Location was close to everything in Newburyport.
Bed was a terrible old box spring that was concaving in the middle. Made sleeping nearly impossible. TV was tiny (about 17") and the thermostat for our room was shared with the lobby so we had no ability to change temp.
Comvenience of location
Our room had many things wrong with it, as have other rooms we have stayed in at the Essex Inn. The owners really need to put some money in to spruce things up.
Excellent property in perfect location.
Fantastic location. Great parking. Easy check-in and check-out. Cute room. Wi-fi. Water pressure was awesome!
I think a large person would have found the shower a bit small. I am not a fan of Kurig and that was the only coffee. However, there is a Starbucks just around the corner.
The location is perfect for walking through downtown. Once we parked we had no reason to move our car - shops, restaurants and sight seeing is all within a short walk from the inn. The breakfast served was just enough to get us moving on with our day. Nice selection of teas and coffee, all the breakfast carbs spread out as well. The young lady working the desk was friendly and went out of her way to be helpful as we searched for specific locations of places we had heard about and wanted to visit.
Bathrooms are a tiny bit cramped.
Rooms small but clean with nice light from windows which opened for fresh air. Attractive furnishings and room colour.Very pleasant atmosphere. Location was excellent and the breakfast perfectly adequate for those that don't require a cooked breakfast.
Only one chair for sitting( 2 in room) and only 1 bedside table leaving other side with no table to put book, glasses etc after bedtime reading. Stairs leading down to ground floor very shallow and steep so a bit difficult for person with knee problems to navigate safely. Front outdoor steps need dark line at edge of each step to differentiate steps as they all blurred into one step and you needed care to navigate them.
