Very helpful staff, especially Madeline. Really liked not having bunk beds in the dorms. Bathroom was very new and clean, as was the entire hostel.
I liked the location in terms of being able to walk or easily take public transportation to the heart of the city as well as the immediate area, 6 bed dorm room and nice bathroom, helpful staff (gave out good local map to all hostelers), general cleanliness, and "complimentary breakfast all day", which included tea, coffee, fruit, bagels and cream cheese as a plus.
The breakfast choices- it would be better to offer at least one non sugary cereal, such as Wheatabix.
Friendly welcome, private room, quiet area in a good location with reserved parking available FOC.
The windows are floor to ceiling, which meant that pedestrians at street level could see fully into the room, as the curtains didn't touch the floor. We found it very difficult to locate as it had almost no markings outside the building, made even more difficult when arriving at night-time. Could have done with more than 1 chair in a room with 4 beds.
convenient nice staff clean enviornment
Nice staff Clean environment cloas eto subway great breakfase
Location, friendly host
Gave our booked private ensuite to somebody else..did refund a portion of the cost, but would not have stayed here if I knew that would not have had a private bathroom
Location was excellent. Very clean - especially the bathroom which was impressive for a shared space. Breakfast facilities were fine except all the milk in two jugs was off on the second night Nice other hostel users and staff was friendly
Small cramped rooms - poorly furnished. I've seen other hostels manage their space and furnishings much better. Double beds on bunks that squeaked loudly with every movement. Very frustrating.
Parking and breakfast included Flexible staff
First experience of a hostel and it was excellent. Helpful staff, extrememly clean and well kept, fruit, cereal and bagels provided for breakfast with microwave and cooker should you wish to purchase anything for yourself, basic room but perfect as base for exploring Chicago. 5 to 10 mins walk to John Hancock Centre and oak street beach and explored a great deal of Chicago by foot. Hope to stay again sometime.
clean room friendly staff location
Location Helpful Cost
Missing blind in girls dorm
Very central location, staff were very helpful.
pricey, not comfortable
the staff was very helpful. I could use washing machine for free
air conditioner was very noisy and not effective. there was no elevator
Oak 112 was easy to find, FREE PARKING was a huge plus, staff was very friendly and helpful, it had a lot of character and was kept clean
I expected the room to be just a bit bigger, but it was just fine with us because all we needed was a place to sleep for a few hours. We stayed in a private quad room with our own bathroom. The hotel asked if we wanted 2 single beds and 2 double beds, or 4 single beds. We requested the first, but got the latter.
Price (truly amazing value), location
Great way to stay in a very nice neighborhood in Chicago at a very reasonable price. Staff was super friendly and helpful - Mark even facilitated cheap Cubs tickets for us. Our room, the bathroom, and the common areas, were very clean. We stayed in the 4-bunk room with our kids, using the shared restroom in the hall with zero problems. The restroom is one-at-a-time, so it wasn't like our kids had to brush their teeth while someone else was showering. :) The other guests were very nice, which I think is inherent among the adventurous types who tend to gravitate toward this type is accommodation. Bottom line: cheap city digs as they should be: clean, friendly, great location, zero hassles. Highly recommended.
Uh, the free laundry room has a low ceiling? That's about it. Great funky unpretentious place to stay.
This was my second stay there. The first time everything was great- this time not as much but overall I would still recommend the hotel.
I stayed in the female dorm & I returned to my room late- it was SO hot in there. I think someone in the room turned off the AC due to it being extremely loud. It happened to be on the wall above my bed, so me & the girl next to me turned it on because it was too hot to sleep. In turn, it was extremely noisy & made it difficult to sleep. That wasn't as big of a deal though as the fact that when I checked in at 5pm, the staff informed me there was no parking. I didn't realize I needed to make a reservation for parking as I didn't have to the last time I stayed there. So that was my mistake, but when I asked the staff where I can park, they did not know. The street parking nearby is only 2 hr parking I discovered. I would have been happy to pay $30 for a parking garage if I could have been directed to one in the area but instead, the staff asked me if I had made a reservation- I said that I was not aware I needed one, so I told him I was going out until late & he told me I could take his parking spot onsite since nobody would be checking in after he left. So I asked if I could make a "reservation" for his spot & he agreed. Well to my inconvenience, I returned late & someone else was parked in that spot! I am now confused at how they designate a spot as "reserved" because obviously my verbal reservation with the staff was invalid. It was too late for me to drive around in the dark blindly guessing where I can keep my car overnight safely so I parked on the street nearby- which becomes free after midnight (even though the staff told me it was 9pm). It was an inconvenience to me to have to move my car at 8am & only have 2 hrs before moving it again. The staff should be knowledgeable about where guests can park their cars for more than 2 hr increments since there are really only 2 other parking spots onsite, aside from the staff's spot.
Very helpful and friendly staff, Only young people (also the staff)
The bed made noise whenever I was moving. You should even stop breathing if you want to have a quiet night.
Lovely staff, nicely decorated, clean rooms, very good location - very close to the beach and Michigan Ave
