The building that would become the Ocean Park Hotel was originally a corporate housing structure for McDonell Douglas aeronautics, one of the largest airplane manufacturers in the country. In 1974, McDonell Douglas closed its Santa Monica plant and the building was converted into a hotel. With shared bathrooms on each floor, the Ocean Park is something of a hybrid between a hotel and a hostel. As a consequence it is very popular with European travelers who are accustomed to hostel accomodation.

Very nice hotel, clean and comfortable rooms. Far from Santa Monica center, you can take the bus.
The manager was very helpful by letting me leave luggage.
Hotel was most economic choice close to beach.
The location was perfect. Not far from the beach at all and in a very nice safe area. The rooms were basic as expected but had everything you needed for being on holiday as spent most of time out and about. Good easy parking, clean facilities, would go back again for sure!
Only tiny thing, the cleaners are working from 7am in the morning, was fine for us as needed to be up early but if wanting to lye in May be an issue for some but other than that nothing at all. N
The location is great because it is close to down town Santa Monica and shopping center.
The staff entered our room and left a message but didn't clean the room, make up the bed or change the towels.
the staff really is super friendly and helpful and they keep the place very clean. and the OP cafe was a real hit for me. I also rally liked the neighborhood and free parking.
no rooms with a bathroom and the walls are quite thin, but I use earplugs. its basic, but its good for the value compared to LA prices.
Having my breakfast
Sometimes the showering facilities
It was quiet despite expectation
Small room, not really good value...
Clean and quiet.
No private bathroom. Needed a step stool to get in bed. Pillows too hard.
Safe, Cute, and Clean. I like the code locked doors and back patio area. Great location with a nice cafe located adjacent. 24 Hour Fitness and Prime Business Park nearby with parks and lots of neighborhood businesses.
Uggggg.....its a couple people on the staff and some of their rules, plus the size of the room that makes this less desirable. But there is nothing else around which makes this place valuable.
Very comfortable bed. TV, sink, and mini-fridge in room.
For the amount that I paid, I could have found something maybe a little away from SanMo with more amenities, such as my own private bathroom, and that was quieter. Had downstairs room. Could hear upstairs guests above me walking around. Loud latches on doors including room door and bathroom door. You hear people coming in and out of their rooms. Earplugs allowed for a restful night of sleep. Levalor blinds over the window downstairs. Room at same level as street. Maybe a curtain or pull down shade would be better for complete privacy.
I liked the room and parking ,close to all conveniences and services. Very friendly and helpful staff. I would definitely stay here again. Great price!
Bathrooms being cleaned at 8:00 am when I'm getting ready for my day to get to a conference by 9:00 am was a bit tight on time. I would suggest cleaning bathrooms mid day after check out...would be better.
bed is good room is small but clean and quiet
cannot ask too much for a hostel
It was a great location, strategic both for Santa Monica and the rest of the city. Very quiet area, very friendly staff and nice restaurants and places to eat at walking distance, plus bus stop just in front of the hotel
The staff is just perfect very kind and available The concept for the late arrivals check in is so cool The parking is free The bus stop is just 2 min away walking
Clean room, firm mattress, pleasant and helpful staff. Secure facility and parking. Free donuts and coffee in the morning. Was the only room in all of LA under $100 that I could find for Valentine's Day.
I got the smallest room in the hotel for the best price but that meant there was really no place to put my travel bags except on the floor. However I would rent this room again in a heartbeat!
Fantastic location, huge value, clean comfortable beds.
Just expect 'hostel' type accommodations and you will not be disappointed.
Great location for the price. Clean.
The doors to the rooms must be hallow because I could hear every little thing that happened outside of our room. Just the sounds of people coming and going- especially to the bathroom (heavy door being slammed) Kept me awake most of the night. I also never realized how much I appreciated having curtains until I was kept awake my the street lights coming in through the window.
cool and great breakfast and lunch place next door.
There are comfortable beds, flat screen TV, ceiling fans and privacy for less in Santa Monica
Leaky showers, cold water faucets, thin walls, noisy neighbors, but would have been able to ignore all that for the plusses if the day manager wasn't such an obsessive compulsive psycho. Very Nasty uptight sort of person banging on your door Monday through Friday afternoon, judging you while you sleep, thinks you are his employee instead of a guest, really crazy high strung person
The location and price for the location is good. The property is very clean.
The primary day manager is unwell mentally. I spent thousands of dollars at this hotel, but he saw no problem with beating on my door at 10 am to demand payment, then accused me of being "rude" for being asleep. The rest of the staff is great, there's something going on with the day manager, I think he needs a vacation or to be let go.
Convenient on bus line, usually quiet enough, great for decent room without that Holiday Inn name tax. Not the place for partying, nightlife, stay near the beach for that. People here are mixed ages, mind own business for most paqrt
Rooms share a hallway and bath, people moving to and fro at all hours, bath door tend to slam, guests can be noisy moving around, unaware/caring about making noise. Backside parking lot can also be noisy, so bring some earplugs just in case. There is zero noise policy after 10pm, but room doors could use a friendly reminder to people to move around more quietly, esp. early or after hours.
