This is a historical building with class. The staff was friendly, the room was beautiful and clean. We stayed on the top floor and had the best view. Granted not all the rooms have the same view. You do have to climb stairs to enjoy this hotel. The location is perfect. Walking distance to Montara Beach. Driving distance to some amazing resturants, beaches and views. We will be staying here again. If your looking for a typical hotel this is not one of those. If you want something different then try it out. We love it.
There was nothing we didn't like
We like to stay there. Only one think is , my mom had hard time to go up stairs, which is no body fall. People was very professional and friendly.
The staff was very nice and helpful.
I like the price of the room and the room itself
I had to show the attendant that I was charged twice the price. I think if she could have gotten away with it she would have done so. I don't know what they use to wash the sheets and towels, but it left a disgusting after stench that was too much for me to handle. It woke me up three times in the middle of the night.
Wifi didn't work, breakfast was not as indicated, old and in need of repair, renovation. Definitely not worth the money.
Ocean view?? there was no ocean view. No telephone in room. Smoking rooms not available. charged my debt card before arriving when I told them I would be paying cash. The card was for reserving the room only.the do not allow late check outs or early check ins.
Room was spacious, location was nice.
The room smelled moldy and when manager was cooking it smelled liked food cooking. The carpet was old, the bedding was worn out, the Wi-Fi would not give a strong connection. All in all for the money, I would expect things to be in better shape.
Enjoyed view of ocean, patio space and friendly staff. Room was comfy and clean too!
because we signed in late and because we had to get up before breakfast to meet the fishing boat we did not get to enjoy time in the quaint locatiom
getting up and stairs were very creaky
Location is right on Hwy 1 at the coast. Very close to Half Moon Bay and many state beaches.
The facility is over 100 years old - it needs updating. They advertise that they have jacuzzi tubs but the facility management won't let you use them.
My Sister and I enjoyed the sizable room and the staff. We plan on making it our getaway every year.
We kept getting kicked off the wifi or just couldn't log in at all. The deep bathtubs had jets that could not be used or you would be charged for damage. I was looking forward to a wonderful relaxing bath. The ice machine was also out.
View of the ocean from balcony
room was musty, carpet were strained , bathtub was non working , Wi-Fi did not work
the rooms view, the refrigerator and the spacious room
lack of staff during check in and check out
Wi-Fi only worked occasionally. It was expensive. The breakfast offered was next door and VERY limited with no substitutions and only served until 9 am. We did not eat there since the regular menu items were so expensive. Could not hear the ocean since the traffic was so loud on the major roadway, I was disappointed.
ocean air,cafe next door
could use paint and carpet, terrible bath, looks like nothings been done for about twenty years, but hey it was fine we were there to relaxe and sleep 165.00 a bit steep, more like 110.00 for the way it is, they say you get what ya pay for but i'm sorry not in this case, would stay again only if nothing else is out there, last resort. thanx
Room was more like a suite, lovely view of ocean. Had stayed here many years ago -- would come again definitely.
Hours of Continental breakfast 7-9 only and next door, Awful coffee in the room, but better than nothing and having to go downstairs and next door to get better coffee.
Location, reception, room size, room amenities.
The breakfast was a rip off. Just don't offer breakfast if all you get is a piece of toast and an apple. That was kind of shocking. Also, the 7-9 availability thing is only if you supply breakfast yourself, otherwise you just look cheap. This breakfast ruined an otherwise wonderful stay, and I won't come back because of this. Also the WiFi didn't even work. I am a techie, the Wi-Fi is just non-functional.
Flea market furniture. No hot water. Black mold.
Partial view of ocean
Very rude woman working the desk. Breakfast menu was erroneous: promised 5 items, but we were allowed only one; bathroom was moldy and in need of repair; there was an offensive sign saying that if we ever turned the jacuzzi bathtub on, we would be told to leave the hotel. We were very dissatisfied.
Other guests were quiet.
Staff was very unfriendly and in no way helpful.
The room was old, musty, dark and the bed was uncomfortable. Also didn't like that our friends booked at the same time through Booking.com got a better/nicer room for less. We booked a king room and the hotel claims what came over on their end was a queen. So we paid more for less.
Place is great. 900 sq. foot room is more like a chalet.
We had the #2 penthouse room which was very large, had tons of brand new, double-paned windows, decent views, good heater, the room seemed recently remodeled, the value was pretty fair.
The complimentary continental breakfast wasn't even worth the bother of waking up early. It's in a small restaurant next to the hotel and the explanation on a pamphlet in the room was a turn off. It listed all the rules of what you can't do or get with your breakfast. Paying $200 a night you'd think they'd let you have more than "only 1" coffee or tea, a plain bagel or toast.. I think that was it, not impressed with that aspect, kind of insulted. The bathtub had a rough, rusted corner which looked leaky. The main door of the hotel was always open, they need an updated system to keep that door locked at all times at least during the night. The cushioned chairs were stained, ragged, old. Some other furniture was old and beat down, but not bad.
Room 5 had an excellent veiw of the ocean.
Needs a lil work
