Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood in Hilo just 30 minutes' drive from the Volcano National Park and Mauna Kea, this 1950’s plantation-style guest house features rooms with mountain views.
Score from 188 reviews Very good
Originally plantation worker housing built in 1909, the property was converted into an inn in the 1930s. In downtown Hilo, this hotel features free parking and free Wi-Fi in public areas.

Too far from anything. It's about a 20 minute drive to Hilo. Unless you rent a unit with a kitchen plan on long drives to eat. Our unit ceiling fan was anemic which made for an uncomfortable sleep. A mobile tower fan would go a long way to making the unit more comfortable.
Very attractive building on a gorgeous ocean front setting. Clean and spacious room.
No air conditioning in a very humid area spoiled our stay.
Hearing the wave and the overlook. Got a nice upgrade and probably nices room in the house. Loved the cat.
No air conditioning available. No trash disposal facility
Awesome place to just relax and enjoy the view. Located right on the ocean front, this property has excellent views and a big garden.
Our room was upstairs and, while it was nice, the outside balcony was still being built so we weren't able to enjoy it. Also, it was very obvious that our sheets and blanket and pillow cases had not been washed in a while. They were so dirty that we had to put towels down to lay on the bed.
The location and building were absolutely beautiful! My sister and brother-in-law got the downstairs bedroom that had its own private living room, wetbar, and kitchinette. It was very nice and extremely comfortable.
Very nice view！
No Restaurants No Supermarket close by, you have to go to Hilo No pool Noisy Highway in the morning
Nice view Friendly owner
Found stranger's hair in the sheet. Yuk! Also you can hear a lot of noise from other rooms. Wifi is not very reliable and there's no AT&T cell signal which is a problem if you want to book other activities while on the property. Owner is not very responsive after check-in.
House looks nice from outside.
The place was difficult to find. The staff was never available, always somewhere else. The cleanness of the room was really poor! Our linen were used, no one even changed it. I found a lot of stains and hairs on it, it was really disgusting, I needed to sleep on top of the bed with my beach towel!!! It was very cold... We asked and paid for another bed, for a friend, and when we arrived (really late at night) it was not ready, we needed to make it on our own!!! There was a kitchen in the common area but no one could use it. No common toilet, if you don't have a room you cannot use a bathroom! It was the worst experience ever.. I recommend don't go there!
The view is not that great that I expected, the house only have two floors and we lived on the second floor, and most you can see from the balcony is the yard, trees are blocking the sight of the ocean:( The innkeeper didn't show on the days we staying there, but s/he texted me and instructed me to enter the house, so it doesn't really bother me much.
The room is big, and have a large balcony which we can sit out and enjoy the view of the yard and ocean. The experience is different, since it's not a traditional hotel, it's more like somebody's house, with a large yard.
Closest place to eat was thirteen miles away.
I know that there are roaches on every Island but when I turned on the little coffee maker they vacated all over.... would be nice if there was a ceiling fan in room 10
It is quite far from the city of Hilo. However it has a nice view from the garden.
We arrived quite late were the reception was not at the property anymore. However there was a phone right next to the door where we could just call the owner, and he would guide us through. We had our own entrance, unlocked and the key inside. As we had to check out early, we should just let the door unlocked and leave the key in the room. Seemed like an extraordinary safe place. The rooms was very big and it was very clean. Could recommend this place to everyone.
The room was spacious -would recommend this to anyone and will probably stay again in the future. Hilo was about 15 minutes away - very convenient.
Disappointed that kitchen was unavailable, cable did not work, bathroom & coffee maker were filthy, crunchy towels were line dried, and we had little to no interaction with management.
The property's location was ideal and the home and view - lovely.
Share house not hotel as we were led to believe. No upstairs lounge available as stated on booking.com
Clean Great views
There was dead cockroach in the corner, that they missed in cleaning. The towels are still white but are rough from age. The metal trim on the doors are rusted from the salt air. The rooms were huge but the furniture made 75%!of the space unusable. Air conditioning would have been appreciated in the humidity of Hilo.
What a great location. It is On a cliff over the ocean. You can listen to crashing waves.
Too much noise from street. No A/C No info about how or were to have breackfast around
Building. Views. Yard.
Coffee was terrible. Coqui frogs are noisy.
Room was very nice and clean. Loved having real cups vs paper for coffee. Shower worked well and water was hot. grounds are beautiful, except ponds need some maintenance.
Needed more pillows.
Beautiful home in secluded setting. Gracious hosts. Expansive oceanfront setting with lovely private patios to enjoy the sunrise.
The staff were very helpful and friendly
We found cockroaches in the room on the second evening without having any food in the room. The owner messaged that the houskeeper would take care of them. She have done it och even left a spray for us just in case...we had cockroaches every day, which was really disgusting. The owner also sad that in these tropical countrys it happens. I don't think this is acceptable. We have been in 4 islands in a row in 3 weeks period (Oahu, Kauai, Hawaii and Maui) but we have met cockroaches just here in Oceanfront Legacy. Despite silence our till 8 o'clock am the automatic vacuumcleaner strated before 8am and it was very-very loud!!
Room was so hot and fan barely helped. Patio is shared by neighbor so NO privacy. Cable tv barely worked for 4 channels. This place sucks !!!
Very noisy till after midnight, ok for young party people, not for families. I told at the desk at 11 pm that's very loud and noisy, but nothing happened!
Very beautiful garden, big rooms, perfect placed for ziplining
