Inn At Ellis Square in Savannah, Georgia is in the Historic District and is known as the Grand Lady on Bay Street.
Score from 458 reviews Very good
The location was convenient to traveling to the Historic Area of Savannah as long as you have a car. The hotel was clean and the staff was very helpful and friendly. The room was spacious and comfortable. We would use this facility if we returned to Savannah.
While breakfast was included with our room, it was a bit disappointing. The hot choices were either waffles or an egg McMuffin style breakfast sandwich which had to be heated in a microwave oven. We ate there only once and then chose to go to area restaurants other days.
No hot water in tube
Comfortable seating in lobby and breakfast room. Nice pool. Great to have a suite. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Wonderful value for the price.
The toilet in our room was very low. However they said they have plans to redo all the bathrooms.
Kelly, the receptionist.
No safe in the room
I found the hotel charming and the staff wonderful. The employees are beyond friendly. The breakfast, while not extensive was fresh and you ate in a comfortable dining area. The hotel location was good. Pool clean and refreshing.
The room was a bit tired and could have used a thorough cleaning.
The price was great and its just outside the historical part of Savannah. So the money you save can be used for other things. Plus the staff was very informative and helpful with all your needs for the area.
The hospitality at check-in was genuine. Our room while not one with a view was quiet as requested. The same front desk woman, when I decided we'd like to stay a second night, made provisions to insure (although the hotel was more booked the night in question) that we got the same room so that we didn't have to pack up and switch suitcases. Breakfasts were ample and variety was good enough to warrant staying the second morning. Proximity to downtown and to access road in (although a bit hard to find at first) insured we were able to go to some 'suburban' restaurants nearby (by car).
One of the hotel handypersons seemed always present around the morning front desk personnel. She laughingly said something to the effect of 'can't get rid of the guy'. His 'monopolizing' her attentions kept me twice from asking small questions that would have made our lives as guests easier. I'd get rid of an employee who acted that unprofessional (including putting bananas from the breakfast buffet in his pockets as he walked by). He and the 'hobnobbing' is not what someone staying at a hotel is not reflective of the other fine things Oglethorpe DOES manage to do well.
All the staff were really great, and the accommodations were perfect.
The WiFi didn't work as advertised ... in fact, it didn't work at all.
The room was huge. Used the living area a lot. Large eating area and nicely decorated. Friendly staff . A lot for little money . Wished we could have stayed longer. Washer and dryer also. wifi had hd cable. Very nice over all. Shopping center across the street a plus. Close to baseball stadium.
Broken sky light. Made it very hot in lobby. It rained all the next day and the sky light was leaking in A few areas with garbage cans all over to catch the rain. Air conditioner can not cool off the two large rooms. Had trouble sleeping because it was too warm.
I loved the suite I was in and had a great night sleep. Everything was nice.
I know Savannah is the oldest city in Georgia, but I felt like a ghost was in my room because the ceiling fan came on by itself. My family was laughing so hard about my comment.
The Air Con keeps start and stop all the time and the control device can not correct this problem.
We enjoyed that the location was a little bit out from the Historic District of Savannah, simply due to parking and crowds. The staff was very accommadating and friendly. One staff member in particular went above and beyond from making sure we had reservations to hand selecting activities we might like- she acted as if she were our personal concierge. All in all, the value for the money is hard to beat. We were able to stay an entire week for less than five hundred dollars- having more to spend on attractions and art. You just have to weigh it out.
This may be harsh but our room keys never worked. We had to have them recoded daily and finally just given brand new cards entirely. Other than just in convenient, this was a problem because the facility locked its front doors at 9, sometimes 6, each evening so we had to call to have someone let us in- showing id. Also, the glass ceiling that covered the center foyer area which the breakfast location, lounging, computers, and main level room access was located had multiple cracks; therefore it leaked heavily when it rained. The beds were also very uncomfortable. I can sleep anywhere with very little bothering me, but the bed was so hard I literally did not sleep the first night. I could have possibly moved to the couch but the main bottom cushions were too small for the couch and left approximately a foot of a gap on the side. Seriously, my husband and I laughed at this. Just keep in mind this is a privately owned facility and does not have the up-to-date accommodations or possibly standards of other global establishments. It is not all that bad, but we will be looking for another place to stay for our next visit.
staff was great very helpfful
was pleased no complaints
Staff was incredible. Continental breakfast was ok, had better at some places (very limited, but adequate). Old fashioned New Orleans look. Location great for stores, malls, etc.
Much older than I thought, couldn't tell by website. Smell of the sulfur water in the shower, I couldn't handle (not used to that, but obviously part of the area). A little dirty in the drawers and cabinets due to age of the Inn (but they did say they are starting a remodel this Fall).
The staff are so friendly and helpful and make you feel very welcome and comfortable. Our room was clean and quiet. We love the location in Savannah as it is easy to get many places from here. This was our second stay at the Oglethorpe and will surely be back again!
This is a wonderful place! ! Very convenient to everything in savannah and Tybee island. . It is an older hotel but the ambience is just great! It's clean and the staff, especially Kelly, was so nice and helpful! ! We will definitely stay here whenever we visit savannah and would recommend this diamond in the rough to anyone! ! Very pleased
Kelly! at the desk
Bath room need to be modernized
Just about everything. It was well maintained and clean. Also, loved the room.
Unfortunately, the strip mall across the street. It took away from the hotel.
Beautiful grounds, very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was a nice start to the day. Rooms very spacious and comfortable. Location was close enough to historical district and excellent stay for the price. Will stay there again and recommend it!
That I didn't have longer to stay.
the staff was really nice and helpful Kelly and Maggie were super.we will be going back
Nice ambiance and quiet. Good value for the money.
Breakfast buffet was not 'Deluxe' as described on the website and not adequately stocked/maintained.
location service staff breakfast close to malls 10 minutes to historic district
no hot water for showering, however was given a discount at checkout.
they staff was great the rooms are nice and is a nice setting
Kelly at the front desk made our stay a pleasure! The decor is pleasing and our room was a good size and well furnished. Breakfast in the atrium was very nice.
The C130s flying at barely above rooftop level into the Air Force Base were a little unnerving.
