Plenty of space in accommodation. Good breakfast. Pricey for what it was.
Dirty room carpet. Cramped space between cars in lot.
Incredibly warm and friendly staff, beautiful room, and delicious breakfast. I'm a very picky guest and I would most definitely stay there again. Thank you!
The food was delicious! Everyone was extremely pleasant and very helpful. I would definately recommend staying there. Lots of history and I reallyloved the butterfly house.
I loved the architecture of the building. The staff knew the history of the building. Check in was very personalized and detailed. Food was good and the room was very private with comfortable bed.Check out was also very easy.
I would have preferred a non-alcoholic or sugared beverage during afternoon social. I am a diabetic and do not drink wine or fruit juice. I had water but it would have been wonderful had a beverage been available such as a seltzer water.
room was small
The hotel is very old but sweet - if you likecthat you'll probably like the hotel. Not a bad breakfast, they cook it on the spot for you. Staff was attentive to out problems and ended up giving us a 50% discount.
We took an expensive room in the back building that was very nice but had a weird smell coming from the bathroom. It was a chemical odor that burned after being there a while. The front desk manager didn't check it out himself, all they did is vent the room and spray some fabreeze. Only when we checked out, pretty angry, he and the manager came in and realized the room was unusable. They did end up refunding our second night.
The gas fireplaces in the room was a nice touch. It was comfortable. Off street parking.
Be careful of bottoming out your car when you pull into the driveway.
Staff was friendly. Coffee was very good. Afternoon cookies were yummy. Close to downtown.
Breakfast was served on tiny plates. Furniture on front porch was dusty. Traffic on Forest Ave. was loud.
downstairs of home is nice
65+ couple. put in tiny 3rd floor room. had to carry all luggage upstairs myself. had only 1-2 feet from sides of bed to walls and they were slanting downward. had to duck to get into bed. no place for toiletries in bathroom
The manager was very helpful and allowed us to check in one hour before the normal check-in time. They make cookies every night. Movies are available to take from the lobby to watch overnight, but they're old VHS tapes.
The creaking noises from the floor and the bed every time someone moved was very annoying. The room was very cramped and small. The bathroom had a "mini-bathtub" if you'd call it that. It was just a shower. When we went downstairs for breakfast, all the seats at the table and through-out the lobby were taken, so we had to take our plates up to our room. Also, the chef got angry with us when we asked about how to order and replied, "I'll get to you when I can!" Finally, the parking lot was terrible! Not only was it small and cramped, but every two spaces had pillars on the lines, so cars would move over to avoid them which made the adjacent parking spot too small for any car. The driver had to get out of the car from the passenger's side!
great location - near downtown nice cheese and crackers
limited breakfast choices raggedy furniture, carpet dirty $5 for second glass of wine worst shower ever
Charming house and rooms, in my case a suite of rooms. Great staff, including chef. Great breakfasts! Thank you!
Shower was just a trickle. I realize California is in a drought situation and water conservation is necessary, but I wonder if the shower head is faulty. It really was just a trickle.
Was a very nice place, breakfast was excellent!
We really enjoyed our stay. We'll be back!
A beautiful, elegant environment with a friendly & accomodating staff. The room was wonderful - clean & beautiful. The gourmet breakfast was excellent - we had Mediterranean quiche with roasted potatoes. The afternoon wine pour was great, as was the homemade cookies in the evening. What a great place! We would stay here again & again! The best!
Comfortable bed. Clean place with great staff. Close to everything you want to do or see in the area.
Mirror and sink in bathroom too low. We are short and had to bend over to be able to see in the mirror!
The value for your money was excellent. The breakfasts both mornings were delicious and something you would get at a 4 star hotel. The bed was very comfortable and the staff was very friendly.
The parking on the facility was very tight even for a small car and the wi-fi went out the first night. These are two very minor things and we plan on staying at the Pacific Grove again.
We realized when we walked in that we had stayed here 15 to 20 yrs. ago. Loved it then & even more this time. Friendly & helpful staff recommended restaurant for dinner & made our reservations for us. Great breakfast in the morning. Beautifully decorated room and it was quiet, peaceful and the best night sleep on our entire trip. Loved the comfy tempur pedic bed.
Maybe just a little more water pressure in the shower if possible, but nothing I couldn't adjust to.
Room had a fireplace. Breakfast was excellent.
Safety light outside glass door was very bright in room #14 all night. Staff said they would add blinds.
The breakfasts were exquisite, and the natural wood decor is charming. The staff was eager to please, and my special requests for my wife's birthday were fulfilled magnificently!
Thin walls and floors meant we heard every thump from our inconsiderate upstairs neighbors.
Wonderful stay. Out of the hussle, but located near all of the hot venues in Monterey area. We had a great experience. Staff were very engaging when you needed them to be and out of your business when you wanted peace and quiet. We would highly recommend this accomidation.
Welcoming comfort in a nicely maintained old mansion. Not fancy, but they have all the right things down pat. Great beds, bountiful and excellent breakfast and friendly, helpful staff. We will definitely come back!
What a charming and reasonably priced stay we had. The staff were so welcoming without being intrusive. The location was great making it very easy to get around. Breakfast was fantastic and what can I say about the 80's video tape collection!
We liked the fireplace in our room, the coziness of the dining area and living room, the location, and the wonderful breakfast
We didn't like having to drag our suitcases up and down the outside steps. Once inside, the manager took care of the luggage.
-Friendly reception and helpful staff. Very excellent service! -breakfast options were great -liked the fresh baked cookies. -hanging out in the living room was nice, great big table for games, nice chairs for lounging.
-thin walls, heard children next door yelling before 6am in the morning. -shower pressure too low. I have long hair and it was difficult to rinse out all the shampoo. -wifi speed could be faster. we were trying to travel blog and photo uploads were kind of slow -wish the fireplace was an actual fireplace
