Location was great and generally quite comfortable.
They did cancel my access card for the second day because they had an admin error that said I had not paid all my bill. Quickly resolved, but it was inconvenient.
Great staff, good proximity to subway, clean rooms
Very small rooms
Less expensive than other NYC hotels, close to Museum of Natural History, Central Park and subway.
I was on the second floor and I can hear noises from the street really early in the morning
Unable to open windows so no fresh air. No fan in the bathroom. Mattress in a plastic cover so bed becomes hot!
quiet and safe location right across central park
very old and shabby furniture, extremely uncomfortable bed, VERY VERY old and loud air con (basically impossible to leave it on at night), tiny window which barely opens, very tiny bathroom, unpleasant smell in the room, no laundry service, very poor airport shuttle service; definitely not worth the price
Couldn't open the windows, but at least the AC worked fine.
Perfect for what we wanted.. A comfortable, clean place to sleep. We were downtown for most of the day
There was only one lift..
Everything is like you see in the pictures, at least my room and bathroom. Quiet, with that old majestic look that I like for boutique hotels.
Good location close to Central Park and the museum mile Free Wifi
Staff are not very friendly. Rooms are really tiny: in our room, the double bed was pushed against the wall on the right hand side making it very difficult for the person sleeping on that side. Smallest bathroom I have ever seen in my life! Rooms are noisy, aircon also very noisy.
Staff were very helpful and made the stay a pleasant one. Housekeeping was good & the room was always cleaned to a high standard in spite of the shabby room. Location was super, away from the busier areas, but close to the subway & Central Park.
Room tiny, whole hotel very tired-looking and in desperate need of a face lift. Smelly shower due to old drains. Great bed, but the noisiest a/c I've ever experienced in a hotel which hindered a good sleep. Lucky that you don't spend a lot of time in your hotel - too busy doing the sights!
*friendly helpful staff **really nice location ***comfortable temperature and beds
*No cream rinse in bathroom **Hair dryer in Rm. 509 did not work well. Kept turning off. Had to let it cool down before it would come back on.
The location it's awesome, clean and they have a good service. The price it's OK if you have that in mind.
The rooms are small, and you will feel that it's not a good deal for the price you pay... but, it's NY
The staff of August 23, 2014, was great - very friendly and helpful. This was important to me as I was a single woman who had not stayed here previously. The neighborhood was perfect for access to restaurants, museums, and Central Park and I felt completely safe day and night. My room was quiet and convenient.
Although the room was quite small with no closet and the bathroom was about 20 inches by 4 feet, I wasn't in the room that much except to sleep so it was not a problem.
I loved the atmosphere/decor both outside and inside. The staff was helpful. Location is excellent.
The room was quite small and tight, especially the bathroom, but it was really all we needed.
Staff was great
No coffee in the room
Hotel was quaint with excellent access to everything. The staff was friendly and the neighborhood is fantastic
The hotel was very close to Central Park and subway and bus stops, yet wasn't too noisy. Almost next to the natural history museum. Comfortable bed and everything was very clean.
The air conditioner was quite noisy which could be a problem for a light sleeper, but didn't really bother us
On arrival we were givin a upgrade for free
Price Location Excelent wifi
Noise from outside, trucks are passing by and its really noisy Smell coming from the street
Beds and air conditioning
Bathroom. If you weigh more than 150 lbs. you would have difficulty getting past the sink to the shower. Toilet was so low and against the wall that you hit your arm and also the toilet was wobbly. No closet and no drawers. Seems OK for 1 or 2 nights but not for longer. The decor is hopeless. Not attractive. A paint job would help.
beds and bed linen really comnfortable. in room safe very handy. staff efficient and friendly
elevator was very slow. shampoo provided was very harsh on my hair.
The only good thing about this hotel is the location. You can note that the hotel's location is about the only thing the hotel tauts on its website.
I stayed in two different rooms over a course of 4 days. My friend also had a room that I observed. Location: There is no doubt about it this hotel has a great location. So do many others hotels on the Upper West Side and some are in the same price range. Keep in mind that this is hotel is near a busy corner so if you are in a room at the front of the hotel, it is going to be noisy, particularly in the morning. Cleanliness: Some people have written that it is clean and others have said it isn't. Well, the cleaning people seem to do the best they can with what they have. But, the cleaning people can't do a thing about the fact that the hotel is very old and in need of lots of updating - they could start with a fresh coat of paint. Everything needs painting - particularly the woodwork in the bathrooms. Speaking of the bathrooms there is discolored grout slathered everywhere giving the appearance of a lack of cleanliness. And, the chipped tub did nothing for its appearance. The rugs need a serious shampooing. The wooden floors in the hallways are stained, but ok. Size: The standard rooms are miniscule. The bathrooms are obviously converted closets and I am not talking about walk-in closets. Truly a large person could not close the bathroom door and turn around. We are talking very, very small. There are double beds in these rooms and little else - including room to dress. No closet - just a shelf to hang clothes. The deluxe room I moved to was larger with a king size bed, had a real closet and a bathroom of moderate, but functional size. My earlier comments about cleanliness apply here as well. Service: There are cleaning people, a clerk at the desk, and a "doorman" who is a jack-of-all-trades and expected to do everything. It is obvious that these people are overworked - particularly the jack-of-all-trades. If you want anything, like ice, you need to go to the lobby and get it or expect to wait indefinitely. The man can only do so much.
Close to central park
Rooms very small. Reception staff not very friendly.
Our room was cleaned everyday. Mattress was fine and it was very quiet at night. Location was amazing! We were able to walk most of the places we wanted to see but it was the perfect starting point. Very close to Central Park and time square.
The room was small but we only used it as a place to test for upcoming adventures.
