Not even a chair (or room for one). Couldn't open shower door w/out hitting sink.
I liked the location and the quaintness.
No air-conditioning. I stayed on the grown floor front room at sidewalk level. In the middle of winter the room was stuffy. They said my only option was to sleep with the window open. No thanks, not interested in getting mugged in my sleep. There are other issues. The locks on the doors were not up to date. Only one simple deadbolt. Also I must have been a trustworthy guest because my hall, in front of my room was the area where they stored the luggage. I could go on and on. Traveler beware.
Location Staff Free Wifi
No light in the room floor carpet looks dirty
How close we were to central park
Great bedding, good location
Just used to fancier places but this was very nice.
Very old and tired. Tiny rooms. Uncomfortable beds. Even tinier bathrooms. No maid service unless you put a sign on the door (that was their excuse anyway for my room not being cleaned.
Location was excellent for various museums and Central Park. I shared a bathroom but never found it occupied when I needed it.
No chair in my room. Apparently the cheapest rooms don't get a chair although there was room for one. Only hot drinks provided in the morning, no breakfast food (I knew this would be so), for the price one could expect a breakfast muffin.
Location, Nice Staff
1) Bed had plastic cover under the fitted sheet...the fitted sheet was thin causing body temp to warm then perspire due to that plastic. Not a restful sleep situation. 2) Shower water would fluctuate - hot / tepid / cool. While never completely cold - I stopped showering as it felt like it would go cold. This happened only at times when we could tell others were showering in their rooms (see #3 for how we could tell others were showering). 3) Thin walls - could hear folks in other rooms - muffled conversations, & when in their bathrooms, & when other guests were out in the hall way. 4) Staff - when mentioning #2 - said..they would talk to maintenance but said "it's an old building". Clearly - but not sure they can / will be able to fix the water problem. Hope so - as it's a nice hotel.
location, room, staff, hotel lay-out. Near two subway stops. Lots of local restaurants. Feel like you live there.
Noisy fan in bathroom. All else good.
Location, very much was very much like Paris, petite. Staff was very accomodating.
The room was sweltering from the heat register even with the window fully open at 38 degrees Outside.
Bellboys are very friendly and quick to assist. Free wifi Hotel is a short walk from the nearby subway Free coffee in the AM
Receptionist can be a little abrupt when counter is busy - i.e. any more than 2 sets of guests waiting to enquire. She wasn't very helpful either when I asked for a map and a few places she'd recommend for a day out in a general area. The place is rather old - doesn't look as bad from the outside. Hot water can take awhile to come on - we were told it can take up to 5 mins sometimes. Upgraded from a semi-private double to a standard double which had an ensuite. Was good to not have to go outside to shower, but bear in mind that the ensuite is tiny (and we're a petite couple). Thin walls - could almost follow the gameshow that the neighbouring guests were watching.
Courtesy and attentiveness of staff, overall cleanliness, quietness, ease of wi-fi connection, proximity to Central Park, Beacon Theater, subway. It was altogether very pleasant.
Strictly a personal preference: we found the bed pillows to be much too thick and virtually did away with them!
- Supportive staff; - Good location close to the Subway; - WIFI was good;
- Bathroom had a smell of diesel or related fumes. - Shower water temperature control was very sensitive, switching between ice cold and burning hot in an instant. - Bed linen smelled of chlorine
The location can not be surpassed for museum visitors. The staff was very pleasant, and helpful. The price was good for New York. It's location is proximal to the park, and it felt like a neighborhood, which was nice on Halloween.
Although the web site stated their were air conditioners in the rooms, the window units had been removed prior to our late October visit. It was too warm, necessitating an open window, and exposure to poor air quality, and street noise. The end result was sleep deprivation. The entire place needed to be cleaned, and dusted, from the back of the sofa in the lobby to every surface in our room. Our shower leaked, resulting in decaying wood trim in the restroom and pervasive odor of mold. The television picture was grainy. The mattress cover was shredded, and the comforter had seen better days, and was lumpy. There was what appeared to be toothpaste splatters on the shelf above the sink, and the first time we mopped up the water from the leaky showers, the towels did not remain white.
Location and staff
Very tired room with no tea and coffee facilities.poor shower.
excellent location, very good wife, helpful staff
I stayed 2 of 3 nigths in a room which shared a door with the room next door. These rooms are extremely nose, every footsteps of the door next to you can be heard, the carpets should be renewed or at least cleaned. do not expect a view, most rooms look out at brick walls within one meter
Stayed here before excellent location
Hot water did not work in the shower. Had to call staff to come fix it. Heater was extremely loud when it turned on and off. Walls were very thin and could hear neighbors' argument.
I felt like I was staying in a bit of NYC that's gone--low-key but excellent service, building renovated just enough to be clean but to have preserved history & character.
new TV but terrible TV cable set up and just basic cable with bad reception ... oddly so.
Location is great. Near Central Park and you feel like you are in areal neighborhood.
The bed was encased in a plastic cover which made me feel they were preventing or have had some bed bug problem. After flying in from Europe was looking forward to a good rest and the bed really put me off. Bathroom had black tiles with black grout and didn't feel as clean as one would expect.
The quaintness and uniqueness of the hotel. Very quiet area. Easy to get around -- to many different places in the area. Loved the decor of hotel. Loved being by Central Park instead of Times Square. The front staff and housekeeping were cordial, informed and kind. Thank you for a wonderful memory.
Great location, old worl charm with feather beds and down comforters and great small bathroom.love the shower, bathroom was spotless and new. This is now my favorite hotel. I had a great nights sleep.
Rooms are very small but really nice. There were no chairs in the room, just a bed bench for you to sit on.
The hotel has a very cool location, close to main metro line, close to Natural History Museum and Central Park, close to Times Square (about 3 km), free and great wifi conection, free coffe in lobby area, a lot of restaurants, shops near the hotel- highly recommended for those who want to enjoy the city!!!
I didn't like that the carpet was old and dirty, the lobby was very poor and dirty, I think the hotel needs renovation. The room was very very crowded and noisy. The elevator is very slow.
