The staffs are very helpful, and the kitchen is fully equiped.
The staff, the location and the rooms were all I could have asked for.
Police sirens and planes every night. Everything else was perfect.
Thanks to Shamus and Karen at front desk, they provided excellent service to us. Room at 6th floor can have nice bay view, ask for the rooms face south/west. Next to park and it is easy enough to find street parking instead of paying $15 for hotel parking.
Windows are old and can not prevent traffic noise from streets . They tried to sell vocation package etc.. It will take you more than 2 hours, avoid to join it.
My only complaint (and the caveat that I'm giving my friends when recommending staying here) was the nagging about the time share. I was cornered when I first arrived. Then I received a phone call in my room the following morning. I was also disappointed that there was no complimentary breakfast unless I attended an hour and a half presentation. The vast majority of hotels offer complimentary breakfast (with no time share strings attached). At the very least (and to be competitive with other hotels), you should provide breakfast. I passed another of your guests on the way to the 7/11 across the street getting breakfast one morning. Do you want your guests judging your hotel by the breakfast offered at a convenience store? If you want to hold discounts to local restaurants and attractions hostage to the time share presentation attendance, I think that's fair. Obviously, you need to provide some incentive for people to attend the presentation as most people on vacation or a work trip, like me, are simply not interested in wasting an hour and a half of their time in a presentation.
Good location for Balboa Park. Comfortable room.
Expensive valet parking only. Staff more interested in sales than guests requirements. Piano bar/restaurant closed.
The hotel is clean, staff are friendly, the bedrooms are out of this world, loved our stay at the Hotel, would happily stay there again, location was perfect for us, it was just a joy to stay there for the two days, one of which was my Birthday. Would recommend this Hotel to anyone who was wanting to stay in San Diego. Fantastic.
Near Balboa Park and easy to get to other attractions. A large suite with kitchen.
I thought the valet service was not needed as the car park was only at the back of the hotel. You could not use the car park unless you paid $15 a day for the valet. Also if you did use the service and the valet damaged your vehicle your car rental insurance would be invalid.

Bed--way too hard. It actually gave me a back ache! But it's nothing that a memory foam topper couldn't change.
We loved the size of the room, with the kitchen and eating nook. Large bathroom with plenty of towels. Staff always friendly and helpful. The windows gave us a such a pretty view in the evening. Across the street was a great cafe - Jimmy Carter's. Super good breakfast!
The only problem we had was the lack of a bellboy to carry our luggage up. We had several heavy suitcases we couldn't manage on our own (being seniors), so had to pile them all into on of those rolling racks and push it into the small elevator, and then push it to our room. Not a great way to start our stay.
Nice decoration in the rooms good location awesome staff spacious room
no full cleaning service
When we come back next time without the kids this will be a wonderful stay just as it was with the kids.
the rooms were lovely, the balcony alloweed us to open the doors for fresh air,
had to ask for towels, and coffee. Coffee was brought 1 time, we had used the cremora and it was not replaced. Would have been nice to have the bed made daily. Other than those small items we enjoyed our stay.
Beautiful, really spacious King suite, well-equipped kitchen-fridge, utensils-everything. Classy stuff! The location is not too far from restaurants and it is next to Balboa Park, which is beautiful. Helpful staff.
I believe the Inn is undergoing renovations or changes in management. The maid service was pretty bad, no daily room cleaning-even though I asked the women doing the rounds.
The entire experience at the Inn was great.
Location next to Balboa Park. Excellent rooms
The food and beverage locations were closed, meaning we had to wander up and down the street to find a place to eat.
The room (suite) was beautiful -- large and newly decorated. It was sqeaky clean.
Street noise made it hard to sleep (we were on the corner of 5th Ave and Spruce. Ask for a room toward 6th Ave (the park side). There was no milk or cream offered with the coffee in the lobby. Powdered creamer is so "Motel 6," and this place is a lot classier than that in many ways.
We stayed there for the continental breakfast .....there was none, and the view from the roof. Which they no longer let people up there. None if this was stated in there site. We were there last year and those are the reasons we went back. The view from the roof in the morning with a cup of coffee looking out over the ocean was spectacular. We were really disappointed.
People who care
Breakfast was included when booked but no longer available when actually there
The condition of the room, very friendly and helpful staff, location, availability of parking in the area.
We were unaware in the change of ownership and the fact the restaurant was closed.
This is by far the best boutique hotel I have been in. Their "smallest room" as they called it is a huge suite with a contemporary full kitchen (supplied with everything including china, glassware etc.)and superb bath with an immense shower. The living/sleeping area was the size of most NYC studio apartments. The walk in closet with storage area and dresser was great. While the decor was not my taste, it was very high quality down to an electric shade which doubled as an over the couch painting, The staff was excellent, especially the concierge, Jeremy. The hotel is located next to Balboa park and a short walk to the trendy Hillcrest neighborhood. There is no ned to use valet parking as on street free parking was always available. I would stay here again and again. There is no daily maid service except for a change of towels, which was fine but may prove challenging to traditional hotel guests.
They need to get their housekeeping staff up to the level of the hotel. I think they should add a reasonable daily maid service option.
Appreciated the luggage holders, pretty décor, good beds!
We stayed in 614 and it was lovely, however it was missing a few objects such as a sharp knife for cutting, no hanging mirrors in the bedrooms since there is only one bath. The windows seemed to leak a lot of noise and air from the outside even though the rooms were quiet from one room to the next. Some hooks in the bathroom would be helpful or in the bedrooms. Choice of TV channels were poor. Maybe a sturdy coat rack in the master bedroom would help since there was no closet.
The building is very very old.The front desk workers is awful.
Nice Room Decorations and remodel. Nice bath and kitchen. Well done
No Wi-Fi on 6th floor, bed pillows horribly uncomfortable and so thick that we had to sleep on towels wrapped up. Room needs spot carpet cleaning and minor up keep. Toilet seat loose, had to ask for towels taken by staff. The computer in the lobby also didn't work and I was told they had to fly a tech in from Phoenix. Give me a break! Staff is great offering excuses and no real solutions. Printer in lobby was out of paper and ink so the boarding pass could not be scanned due to poor contrast and it was two feet from the Concierge desk. Lobby staff friendly slackers who are probably underpaid and prefer to socialize rather than run a professional operation.
Location was perfect for everything we needed on our vacation. The hotel staff was exceedingly helpful and friendly. Having the roof top open again will be a great addition. We will stay again when in the area.
