The staff, and pool are great
Orlando at the reception desk was out of this world friendly and so kind. Room was great, clean, and comfortable.
We stayed Saturday and Sunday. If you want quite don't expect it on a Saturday night when the attached bar is in full swing. However, it wawasn't so loud you couldn't sleep.
This place had a very cheerful and stylish charm. The staff was friendly and everything was clean and fresh. Free secure and convenient parking was a huge plus considering the area. I'd recommend it to other young couples and groups of friends.
I wouldn't recommend this hotel to someone who wouldn't be comfortable in the Tenderloin. It also isn't for light sleepers. They do their best to keep quiet hours, but the layout of the hotel makes it impossible to control light entering the window and noisy latecomers walking by.
Location was seedy but sassy, full on city. The heated pool was great for a splash even on a December morning. All wrapped up in fun colourful decor.
The desk staff was super nice at check-in, lugging a bag and delivering us to our room - and, a first for these seasoned travelers - refusing a tip. Funny, friendly guy. Nice room, v good bed, clean bathroom and roomy shower. Next morning had coffee and muffins down by the pool and met some other guests and exchanged travel stories. All in all, would stay again in a heartbeat.
You can't read anything about the Phoenix w/o noticing the location on the cusp of the Tenderloin. But it's well-lit and very safe and we had no worries.
The staff was amazing. I found myself stopping in nightly to chat for a few minutes with the people at the front desk and every single one of them made me feel so welcome and comfortable. Free Wi-Fi is always a plus and the DirecTV seemed to have more channels than I have seen at other hotels.
The neighborhood was a bit rough if you aren't a city person.
The vibe is king!
That I couldn't have stayed longer.
We had a great stay, very friendly staff, nice swimming pool. Perfect if you are going to The Great american music hall. Will definitely come back.
Would be nice if the pool could open earlier in the morning,
The design of the hotel; the space around the pool where we made some friends; the friendliness and courtesy of the staff - in fact, everything.
The look and feel of this hotel is very vintage. Cool courtyard with pool and bar. Warm atmosphere. Free parking! Good restaurant.
We stayed on a Saturday & Sunday. There was a party (wedding) on Saturday evening (till 2 am). And it was very loud. A lot of 'joix de vivre'. Hotel management should have warned other guests.
- Spacious room that is well preserved and presented, with some vintage furniture and decoration, high ceiling - Staff who are very friendly and accommodating - Free parking - Reliable wifi - Location in not so good area, however close to many eateries and good access to places - Overall we had a pleasant experience at the Phoenix
- Cleanliness outside rooms could be improved - Wish rooms had a fridge - City noise (sometimes)
Located in a rough area which is a shame as it dampened our first impression of San Fran but the hotel is still great and once you turn a blind eye it really is a nice place!! Location is a bit far away from main attractions though.
Bar and restaurant Pool
No Air Con
Free parking and wifi was a plus staff was very friendly. Location of hotel was centrally located, close to downtown area within walking distance, close to public transportation also.
Not a great neighborhood, a lot of homeless in the area, but no one bothered us.
Price Cool decor Parking Wifi Staff, so nice
Damn close to gritty neighbour hood, but not in it.
Booking.com advertise one price but actual price once booked comes in higher!
The staff was super friendly. I loved the casual atmosphere. Once inside the facility I felt totally safe, and as a woman traveling alone this is very important. I loved being able to see the pool from my bed, which was super comfy!
The neighborhood directly surrounding the hotel feels a bit dodgy for a woman traveling alone. I wasn't expecting that much street harassment while walking the six or so blocks to Market Street.
The office staff was very helpful and friendly. The facilities were ok
Very noisy, screaming guests well into the early hours of the morning (3 a.m. or so every night)
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They'd given the best recommendations for restaurants and bars, truly given us a "local" experience. The room size was big and had all the necessary amenities. I liked that they have free coffee and muffins for the guest everyone. There are plenty of magazines in the guest rooms and reception which gives recommendations on places to eat and visit in San Francisco, however the hotel itself had a great bar and restaurant. I also loved the free parking space given to the hotel guests which not many hotels (expensive hotels included) provide for free.
Most tourist attractions are not near the hotel so it's best to have either a car or be prepared to walk.
The staff is exceptionally nice and helpful. The hotel is only about 15 minutes walk away from Union Square and there are lots of good restaurants nearby. Free parking! Courtyard with a big swimming pool is very nice. WIFI works well. Rooms are good-sized and clean.
As said in many reviews, the area is not the best and walking back to the hotel was sometimes a little bit scary at night. But nothing ever happened and I don't think there was ever real danger. However, probably not a perfect place for families with small children. On the other hand, it's very near Union Square, public transportation etc. The walls and windows of the rooms are very thin. The hotel has Evening Policy according to which you should avoid noise after 10 pm. but if you have a neighbour who doesn't care and keeps noise, you will hear it and might have difficulties to sleep. We experienced this one night, other two nights were good. However, you will always hear some noise from the street, so if you are a light sleeper, that might disturb you. Free muffins were available only in one morning.
Awesome place to stay. I'll probably always stay there when in SF
Super helpful Staff and free parking
Free Internet access only for single device
The staff was so friendly and helpful, made us feel comfortable. Rooms are huge, beds comfortable and even though there might be noise coming from the restaurant/bar, it was in normal circumstances.
Location in Little Saigon wasn't really welcoming which I wasn't aware of. Would only recommend it to groups of people and not single travellers.
The restuarant/bar was cozy with thousand of shelved old vinyl records, food and drinks excellent. Coffee maker in the room, great mattress, heated pool, parking! free wi-fi, easy 5 blk.downhill walk to city hall where there's tourist info. center, the BART/muni or catch the bus right out the door of hotel on the corner.
The staff, the cool pool area and lovely bar. The good was amazing
The hotel was located in an undesirable area but the hotel and staff made up for it.
