I was in the bar at happy hour and was charged full price. when I checked out I told someone at the front desk about this and she said she would have the manager call me. He never called. At a prior stay during happy hour I was charge full price and was told because I sat at a table in the bar area it was full price, this time I was sitting at the bar. I don't think this is a nice way to treat customers. I won't be back. Also the rooms are very noisy-I could hear the people above me whenever they walked around in the room.
The view of the ocean, the comfortable beds, the free WiFi and the history of this old hotel.
The resturant and bar were closed on the night we stayed, which was not a problem apart from we were not told upon check in that there would be no facilities on site at all. Also the staff were not helpful in offering us any alternatives to obtain food and water.
I prefer a conventional mattress over a foam, but it was comfortable.
Price Beautiful Pool and Landscaping Stafff Dining Experience Location
trouble checking in, verbally confirmed an upstairs king but was barely able to secure a ground floor
The room doesn't feel warm at all. They could add some photos and a bit of color to make you want to come back. The bathroom needs updating.
The location and grounds are nice
Room did not have an air conditioner. With my next booking will ask for a room with an air conditioner
Great food and view in restaurant. Service was excellent. Don't forget the piano player. She was Outstanding
Front staff when I checked in were very slow and unprofessional. Awful pillows
Kind of cheap. Good location by the beach.
Noise from the freeway. Not sure if they were double panes windows
If you cannot find the thermostat, look behind the dresser. That is where they put mine!
Nice grounds and location.
Near beach, clean
Let's just start by saying the Tempurpedic bed is more comfortable than my bed at home. But even without the bed, this is great lodging for my singular tastes. Staff were friendly and accomodating. Did not want to leave.
Great view from king size suite.
What a run down hotel, and in a fairly remote area. Lots of freeway noise. The path from the upstairs rooms to the stairs is outside, and the floor sags, so in a rain, a pool of water builds up that you have no choice but walking /Slogging through. A small sink in the bathroom was broken, no bathroom counters so place to put anything, and recent apparent “upgrades” were done with low quality materials.
Nice Lobby area, probably the only area that shows the classic vintage of the hotel. Near the scenic beach (the beauty of which is marred by the fact that the paths are not lit at night, and there are several homeless encampments)
Needs upgrade all around.
Cute boutique hotel with charm.
Surrounding are beautiful, Ac works great, wifi great
No elevator, climbing up a steep flight of stairs with luggage for a week stay for two people. Didn't help that my husband is handicapped and there was no one to help me except another guest.. We didn't sleep for the entire 7 days because of the very loud traffic from the free way, right outside our window..
The grounds were beautiful. The history was charming, the restaurant food was delicious every time and the wait staff very professional.
You should not put people in the wing that has not yet been refurbished. It was not inviting and had the bare necessities. The sliding door to the patio could not be locked. Therefore anyone could get into our room. Whitney wolfe
Upon arrival I was told that they do not accept the AAA discount "in person," only thru a website. I had booked thru a website but had forgotten to enter my AAA info. Seems a bit petty - they must have a policy of trying to prevent return customers. Also, even though there was a pool as advertised, it was locked and chained -- no access, no explanation. The room itself, while clean enough, was strangely devoid of any sort of decoration -- sort of an industrial feel to it. Lastly, although with the windows shut it was not a big problem, the hotel is spitting distance from the freeway.
The lady at the front desk the morning of my checkout was friendly and helpful.
The condition of the hotel, the lack of amenities, the musty smell, the noise from both the adjacent room AND the highway (if I opened the slider for air as there is no A/C), the lack of hotel service when by 5:00 my room was still NOT made up and only a phone call to the desk resulted in towels, etc.No microwave or refrigerator. No counter for makeup/toiletries - had to use a small window sill. Makeup table had NO chair.
I liked the proximity to The Ventura County Fairgrounds
Our king bed room was in the older section of the hotel & did not have air-conditioning, though the overhead fan worked to keep us cool at night. We really missed a small refrigerator, but the ice maker was close-by at least.
As a historic hotel, the landscaping is uniquely mature, the rich foliage providing a distinctly tropical ambiance. We ate in the restaurant twice, lunch & breakfast. Both meals were high quality & staff was attentive. The beach is within easy walking distance, & July weather was mild, somewhat overcast in the morning, but blissful as the day progressed. The room was spacious & had enough seating that we had a group of 5 friends over for an impromptu gathering. All of them were locals who hadn't realized there's a treasure in their backyards!
No tub for our little guy
A short walk to the beach, cute place
superb room and hotel in general and great value for money
I brought my teenage granddaughter to spend a couple of days on the coast. We both enjoyed our stay.
Reserved 2 queens, got an "upgrade" to a King suite which included one King for my husband and me and a pull out sofa for my boys to share- horrid and uncomfortable. No temperature regulation between the two rooms. Gave feedback to front desk but nothing happened. Microwave placed in a position where it could not be plugged in! One day we went without maid service.
ideal location- 150 yards to the beach beautiful view of the ocean grounds are lovely, beautiful foliage Staff was very friendly- just not terribly helpful.
No air conditioner with wet beach air. Offered a fan instead of another room. Sweating the entire time in the middle of summer with only a table fan. Disgusting. Not what I wanted my gf to experience in Ventura.
