My only complaint about Captain Grant’s is that it is an old property and as such has some walking hazards. My BF stubbed his toe on the raised hearth in our room, some of the floorboards are sloped and the front walk way to the main house has some very uneven flagstones. If you have mobility issues or are bothered by quirky old buildings, this may not be the place for you.
We definitely enjoyed our stay at Captain Grant’s and plan on coming back. It is a short, easy trip to from the Inn to the Mohegan sun casino which charges an arm and a leg for an average hotel experience and the pleasure of taking all your money to boot! That being said, I loved walking about Captain Grant’s. They have many places to hang out including some lovely grounds, a really nice patio (had a glass of complementary wine out there while checking phone messages), an upper deck for getting sun, a great billiard room and a dining area with pie and cookies available all day long. They have two fridges (one in each house) with a variety of drinks available including wine and beer available for their guests. Our room, the Holly, was in the older house. It was charming and very quaint. The inn’s hosts, Ted and Carol were lovely and OMG that breakfast in the morning was awesome! It was like being on a cruise ship – dining with linen and silver while you discuss your adventures and plans with your fellow guests. We ate out on the patio which was gorgeous with excellent coffee and so much good food including homemade jams.
