There is no real complimentary breakfast, just some pastries and coffee at the bakery. But there was a discount for the meals for hotel guests and the full cooked breakfast was enjoyable in the restaurant.
The front desk and restaurants are in a nice historic building. But note that the hotel rooms are in three drab buildings in the back of the property and are not at all historic.
My daughter and I were passing between New Haven and Boston as we toured colleges. This was the perfect location for an overnight stay. Great value, quaint setting, quite comfortable.
For all the hype, the bake shoppe complimentary 'breakfast' is laughable. Mass produced mini muffins and mediocre coffee. Skip it. However, everything else about the place is well worth the cost of admission- even if your unlucky and have to stay in one of the 'outbuildings'.
The Tavern. Great food and drink and atmosphere.
We had a king romm in the first motel unit. Gave us a great view and an easy walk to the historic tavern. The best bargain in New England!
I love that this property is being maintained as a historic inn. The decor is lovely, and it feels special to stay there.
Asked for a second floor & they stuck me on the first .It was like a herd of elephants in the room above . Place was a ghost town & they couldn't get me a second floor room . I've stayed at this Motor Lodge before several times & now this is the second time this has happened .Front desk morning shift VERY unfriendly !!! lightbulbs in the room needed to be replaced . Poorly maintained .
Staff, Restaurant, Tavern and bake shop exceptional. Next time we week try to stay in the Inn. The country lodge was clean and bed comfortable but room and chairs worn and in need of repair/upgrade. Bathroom very small and cold. Would not have wanted to pay regular price for that room.
No heat upon check in and then when offered a different room the key card did not function Left standing at the front of a 2/3 empty restaraunt for several minutes before acknowledged
$59 a night rate on a room that normally goes for double that price
We liked the comfortable bed and the food and the atmosphere. And the staff was very uplifting especially in light of the fact that we were there for a funeral.
very bad draft...sink was clogged in bathroom and over flowed when shaving in the morning...took 10 minutes for hot water to work in the shower....not a good way to start your day....
Staying in the Inn, sitting by the fireplace at night. The food was great. Things to see close by.
I thought with the bake Shop, you might have small refrigerators in the room.
The tavern was amazing - great ambiance and the food was excellent!
It's in the middle of no where but it is a very nice location for wedding
very original historic buildings and layout.
Room was really cold and the heater didn't work. Had to leave the bathroom heater light on to get a small amount of heat.
Bedroom had uncomfortable bed and not cheerful.
Food and friendly staff
I didn't like the one way traffic flow from front to rear. I arrived at night from the rear entrance from a side road and was unable to make my way to the front for check-in without having to get out of the car and go in to ask. I was then told I had to drive back out through the property to the side road and then to the main road for the front entrance. But this would not deter me from coming back to the Publick House.
The Inn is quaint, rustic and full of charm . I like the many little rooms, hallways, stairways, and early New England decor. The meals were excellent, the staff was courteous and the prices were not as much as one might expect. An excellent value.
Sometimes it gets noisy if there is a private function in the main building.
Very charming, especially around the holidays. The bed and (pillows) were very comfortable.
Food mediocre in restaurant. Continental breakfast laughable.
Nice room, once it warmed up.
Cold room upon arrival no hot water had to move to another room which was colder than the first
No coffee machine, no refrigerator, no microwave, and one bedspread was badly soiled. Carpet could use a deep steam clean, outside stair and walkway carpet is rather ripped and torn in desperate need of replacing ~ not a good first impression
We were in the upper motel rooms with great views, large room, bathroom is a bit small, and slider to outdoor balcony. Morning sweets were fresh baked out of the oven, lunch was memorable, and dinner was fabulous. The staff is superior!!!
Very quaint New England charm!!
I was unable to connect to the internet.
Great atmosphere in the dining room
The front of the room, ( by the door ) was COLD and therefore made the bathroom cold. The bathroom was very cold. We did not shower our third day because we could not brave the cold
Thanksgiving Dinner was great !!
We stayed in The motor lodge behind the main inn. It worked well for our family of 4, but it lacked the charm of the main inn. Very 1960's/'70s atmosphere.
The historic nature of the inn and the location. The food was also very good.
